Hello, All
I'm starting this thread because I need to clear my head a bit, and I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this concern of mine. So thank you in advance for your consideration.
A few months ago I purchased a spectacular rose cut ring from Intergem (strictly as a consumer). The moment I saw it, I was smitten. I'd been looking for a rose cut ring for awhile, but it needed to be the right one, ya know? It glistened and danced in the bright lights of the convention center, and it performs just as wonderfully outside, at home, and under fluorescent office lights. I really do love it! The two main trilliant/pear shapes have a very attractive green tint most of the time and flash beautiful pastels off their facets. The white RBs sparkle like mad. The center step cut trapezoid adds a nice contrast. The pics don't capture its smoky transparency very well. The larger stones have visible inclusions if you look for them, but they just add to the charm to me. Not sure if they show up in the pics.
Its totals about 2.83ctw of white and "champagne" diamonds (though I'm skeptical of the blanket "champagne" designation). It is 18k white gold and the marquises are set in 18k yellow gold cups!!! It is an original, one of a kind piece, and I got a good deal on it.
Now to my dilemma...For one, the ring takes up about half of my finger. It's a very sturdy piece with some heft to it (not as delicate as it looks), but I still worry it gets in the way as I work with my hands a lot. And, I've come to realize I am not much of an occasion jewelry person. I like pieces I can wear everyday. Since it isn't exactly comfortable for me for everyday wear, I haven't had it appraised or insured yet
, which has resulted in me not wearing it at all. It just sits in its lovely box
If I get it appraised, I'd like to do a full gemologist appraisal because I am wondering if any of the marquises are fancies and if I could get a better color identification for the trilliants and the trapezoid. But that's going to be $150 or so I'd only like to spend if I'm actually going to start wearing it....And since I haven't had it insured or appraised, I haven't had it sized down. Currently, it's about a 6 on the mandrel, but because of how it's designed, it would easily fit a 6.5, a full size too big for my middle finger.
I feel like I'm going in circles
, and am seriously considering selling it to find something that would be more of an everyday piece. Help please. Should I go ahead and sell? Have it insured and resized? Hold onto it for awhile longer and see if the answer comes to me?
