I am curious what kind of setting you PSers would suggest for a smallish round diamond? Lets say 1/2 carat? What compliments a nice small stone?

What are you going for? I like vintage 40s inspire ones a they usually had stones about thy size.

Hi! I have a 0.59 ct and my stone is mounted in a 3 stone halo. I think a halo flatters a smallish stone and gives it a little more oomph.

I have a smaller diamond, a 0.40ct faint grey, set in a buttercup setting (by Hunt Country Jewelers), and really I think it presents very nicely in terms of face-up size - and this is ring size 8.5...

Halos or antique style fishtail prongs.

Wow thank you for the suggestions!

Niel- I am not quite sure what it is. More of an impulse buy for the actual diamond. Something keeps drawing me back to it. The only thing is what do I put it in that doesn't make it look like a spec on my finger.

Laila619. I actually really like your halo three stone. I could definitely halo this ring but for the price of halos I wonder if I would do better buying a smaller pair for side stones and make a simple smallish three stone or would that look strange?

Marymm- beautiful. I actually thought of a antique ish style. Or what about those illusion settings? Where metal extends past the diamond edges? I hope I am making sense.

Gypsy- I love the middle Pearlman's one. I am currently working with them on my eternity ring. So I can ask how much. I like the top one too but not as much which might have to do with the way it looks in those particular pictures. Would be nice if some PSers had pics of these exact rings. What do you think of the shank on these? They look like a version of a knife edge? Do you think this would be uncomfortable?

Do you all think it would be silly just to buy the diamond and hold on to it until I know what to do? Sounds silly right? Or would your advice be to pass and when you know what you want there will be other diamonds?

I don't know having not tried that one on. I've tried the first one and the third one on. And they were very comfortable.

I really love the third one too.

My vote is either a halo or something with a taper towards the center. Mine tapers quite a lot and it definitely makes my 0.65ct look larger

I would do a tension setting. I love so many of the settings by Gelin Abaci. Steven Kretchmer settings are gorgeous as well.
There are also great settings by Boone. Kenny has his Octavia's set in tension settings.

I do not think its silly to buy a diamond and wait a bit to set it. Very common over in the CS side of this forum. Buy a stone you love and wait to set it.

Just so i understand, you plan on wearing it in with all your stack, right?

A halo adds an astounding amount of finger coverage. My halo's too big for my liking as I prefer a more delicate halo...but when I measure it it's about 8 mm which gives the coverage of a 2 carat! The centre is a 0.70 round brilliant diamond. I recommend you do a very very fine halo for a half carat. But do go for it. :twirl:

I love the ring that PSer secretagentlaura posted in your SMTB thread on daily wear. Small stone in a semi-bezel looks amazing.
