Native cut tries to maximise the carat weight by creating rounded 'bellies'. In the case of diamonds - it is just extra girdle thickness and depth; that kills the brilliance.
The loss of brilliance tends to be more noticeable at the edges, making a diamond Look Like(tm) a much smaller stone.
So if the diamond say measures 5% smaller in diameter, it will probably look 10% smaller.
WOULD'NT IT BE GREAT IF THERE WAS A SYSTEM THAT TOLD CONSUMERS IF A DIAMOND LOOKS LIKE ITS CARAT WEIGHT SIZE?
