Hi everyone! Thank you for responding to my post...can we please stop bashing/calling/accusing people of being racist....I posted this b/c I was really upset that Kanye disrepected Taylor like that...it has nothing to do with race, he is just an idiot of the highest degree.

Not sure if you guys saw Jay-Z and Alicia Keys at the end but here is another twat that has absolutly no manners or respect for other people. SMH

Holly, thank you! I''m knocked up though, so no wine till the spring. Just in time for election season

How strange that I should learn of your news here, swimmer! Today I learned that Mara and anchor31 were expecting interesting events in the thread about falling in love with reading. Shouldn''t I, therefore, have learned of your news in that thread? I must congratulate you! Rather than start a threadjack, let me ask you where you have posted more about this. Then I can go there to get more information!

So, I'm not a Kanye fan or anything, but I want to ask you all a question. Do you guys feel he's a douche because he outspoken or do you guys think he's a douche because he tends to be outspoken at inappropriate times?

When he did that, my mouth literally fell open and I think it stayed open for a good five minutes. I was like OMG (read OMG, not oh my God).

I think Taylor Swift is very talented. There are artists twice her age that don't even write their own songs. However, I agree with what he said . . . maybe a little, but I think he should have kept it to himself. But he has an a**hole complex that makes him say things in the wrong forum.

It's clear that all of us pretty much don't like West; I don't like him on a personal level. But I think he's fairly well respected for his songwriting capabilities and production skills. Even if you don't like him, I'm sure there's a song that you like written and/or produced by him.

Don't throw anything at me please . . .

I think everyone is entitled to their opinions, but there is a time and place for everything. Kanye West picked the worst possible time. I am not a Taylor Swift fan, but it upset me to watch the change in her facial expression from someone who was genuinely excited to someone who's feelings were really hurt. I don't understand why it is OK for Kanye West to do this over and over. He was disrespectful and crossed the line in my opinion.

That he should have done.

It's one thing to think that someone else deserves to win the award. Its another to make a point of publicly humiliating Taylor Swift when she was in the middle of her acceptance award.

Its not OK to do this, and I think even his biggest fans would be a little disgusted at what he said.

I loved what Beyonce did, calling Taylor up to have her moment... That was awesome.

Kanye, is soooo toast...

I won''t throw anything at you but talent or not does not make it right. I''m fairly certain the world does not revolve around him, regardless of what he might think. These things were voted on and it was not his place to offer his opinion. Would it be right if everybody spoke their mind during the awards show? I think it would be chaos so what right did he have to do that? I''m sure many individuals disagreed with some of the results. Would he have done that during a presidential debate? Would he go up to a candidate, take the microphone from them, and offer his opinion? I doubt it. If ever there is a visual dictionary, I think the word ''disrespectful'' would have a link to his act during the awards show.

Outspoken? He didn''t seem to be too outspoken during his comments on Jay Leno. In fact, he said next to nothing. If you want to get technical, I don''t recall him even mentioning Taylor''s name... I could be mistaken though... but I don''t think he did.

He took a very special moment away from Taylor. She will forever remember that moment and it won''t be in a good way. Kanye will forget it in time but Taylor never will. That is a true shame.

+1 treefrog. I think she will never forget that her special moment was taken away by Kanye. And no one will forget that he did that to her. I think it's going to take a veeeerrryyyy long time before people are willing to forgive him, if ever... Who knows... But right now, I see him as a huge jerk.

Hey Penn, would never throw anything at you!!! How's it going??
35.gif

I know Im late but I was really really sad watching it. Taylor swift is such a sweetheart, it was like watching him step on a kitten!

Penn- In this instance I think Kanye was an a$$hat BOTH because of the content of his outburst and its circumstances and timing. If he'd gone off at an afterparty about how Beyonce should have won instead, it would have been rude but not the same level as grabbing the mic and usurping TS's acceptance speech. If he'd grabbed the mic at the same time but instead offered up a prayer for his dear mother in heaven, it would have been a bit wacky and selfish beyond belief to take away someone else's moment for his own reasons but it wouldn't have had the whole 'stepping on a kitten' feeling the previous poster mentioned.

stbfyffe, as the OP I think you can request people stay on topic but not require they agree with you. Some people clearly think that KW is not only a jerk but a racist jerk and that that modifier is relevant to our discussion of what a jerk he is. At the very least some of his tirades reveal he sees things through a racial lens. But if you were just asking for people to not personally attack other posters as racist, um, I agree! Pie for everyone! I think we can all agree he's some kind of jerk.
1.gif
And I am so glad Beyonce had a chance to help out a bit later and make it not such a horrible night for Taylor.

Cara you are correct...no one needs to agree with me but i do feel that since we are talking about how disrespectrful Kayne was to Taylor we remember not to do the same and be respectful of other people and not personally attack anyone that post here. I love pie btw...especially warm cherry pie with vanilla ice cream!

Maybe he''s bi-polar?

Aww, thanks Kaleigh! It''s going great. How are things with you?

no sympathy here.
That was just bizarre. Do you suppose the mom question was planted? It sure seemed that way to me.

He''s not a great actor. It was quite obvious to me that he wasn''t sorry. Oh well, hopefully Taylor sells a few more records out of this.

Did you all see the Obama quote on Kanye being a [donkey]? That was supposed to be off the record but opps! abc tweeted it now its out there. You'd think our president would have learned after the cop/professor mess not to make *obvious* comments on things like that as it gets him in a heap of hot water. Maybe he can't resist or maybe he was relying on those unrealiable journalists. Hmm hopefully not too close to the politics line there.

Good to see Kanye apologize even if its not heartfelt (which I'm not in a position to judge.) Stand up, take your lumps foolish man.

I predict a stint in rehab in his near future as a way of him trying to fix his image and blame his behavior or addiction. And to add to that, the stint in rehab won't be becuase he feels he needs it, but as a way to try and get the public sympathy and people stop hating him.

I seiously hope his career tanks.

But I think his issues go far deeper than that. I think he is quit possible mentally ill and certainly narrcassistic personality disorder comes to mind.

But then again, I'm just playing armchair psychologist.

However that being said, he is definately a world class jerk and that he stole that moment from Taylor Swift is shameful. My kids adore Taylor Swift so I have been exposed to her through them. She is so young at only 19 and I felt so bad for her. Such a huge lifetime moment stolen from her.

I am not the biggest fan of Beyonce however earlier this year when she poked fun at herself on her SNL appearance she won me over a tiny bit.

And whether she was encouraged and coaxed by others or not, her giving up her speech time to Taylor was one classy thing to do. Good for her. That was really great. As much as Kanye is a pimple on her memory of the VMA for Taylor Swift, Beyonce will be a diamond on the memory for her.

Kanye is a nutcase. (Although I admit I enjoyed his concert last year).

Poor girl Taylor... I was quite impressed with what Beyonce did and I`m looking forward to seeing her live this Sunday even more.

I finally just saw the clip.

I really dislike this bag o'' sh!t.

Call it silly, but I''ll never buy anything from him again. He has pulled this crap too much and gotten away with it.

What I don''t get is this: Kanye West has a loooong and ugly history of making an ass out of himself at various awards shows, but yet they KEEP LETTING HIM IN THE DOOR!!! When are they going to wise up and just NOT send him an invitation?!?!
20.gif

... Its thread like these that make me want to just shuffle my way backward toward the exit door...

There's still a little part of me that thinks this whole thing was staged. Who benefits?

* Taylor Swift ... huge outpouring of support & high-profile intro to a world that's barely heard of her
* Beyonce ... has a classy moment ... looks the elder diva who doesn't "need" the spotlight, she's uh Beyond
* Jay Leno ... has a "Hugh Grant" type scandal guest to interview ON HIS DEBUT EPISODE
* Kanye ... solidifies "jerk" rep, gets to take a break for a while to "straighten up", reminds everyone he lost his mom, has everyone talking about him again, has a "story arc" where he "matures" in front of America
* MTV ... gets buzz to an awards show re: a DYING ART (who even makes VIDEOS anymore?)

sniff sniff - smells funny.

ETA: Oh, my other reason for believing this is that Russell Brand, the show host, has been one of the FEW people to speak out on Kanye's behalf. Saying wishy washy things like "People have bad days" and "He's a nice guy really" .... WHY WOULD HE DO THAT. Maybe if an MTV "stunt" turned out differently than expected & people come down way harder on Kanye than they expected? Dunno. Makes me wonder. OH YEAH ... and they had all those "Twitter graphing charts" things -- tracking what people were Tweeting about. Did they really think people were going to be Tweeting up a storm about Lady Gaga's blood-fest? Really? Or did they know something TRULY UNIVERSALLY TWEET-WORTHY was around the bend.

That''s basically the gist of the article I linked to earlier. I''m not sure whether I believe it or not, but it''s definitely possible.

It''s all about the ratings. The more press coverage the stunt gets, the more people will watch the re-run (I noticed they re-ran the show last night).

I wonder where his arrogance and ''holier than thou'' attitude comes from?

He has to be the most arrogant person I have ever seen!

His arrogance comes from hatred. His hatred is based on racism - - his own.

But that''s not WHY he did it. The last time he got this much press, he pulled a similar stunt at the MTV awards a few years ago, didn''t he? I smell desperation. He channeled his inner Lohan and made an ass out of himself for the publicity. Again.

How does anything Kanye did have to do with racism? What are you even talking about?
+1
Yeah, seriously...really?

thing2 - he has shown signs of it in the past, if others have kept up with him. For instance (don''t remember if I mentioned it above), he went ON and ON about being the FIRST black man on a country music tv show once, and it was COMPLETE BS b/c others had been on before him.... LONG before him in fact. The guy is a sleeze.... period.

Okay, how is that racist? I guess I''m not really appreciating or understand the current usage of the word racist. Here''s Merriam-Webster''s definition:

Main Entry: rac·ism

Pronunciation: ˈrā-ˌsi-zəm also -ˌshi-
Function: noun

Date: 1933

1 : a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

2 : racial prejudice or discrimination

— rac·ist -sist also -shist noun or adjective

I''m not seeing how Kanye West fits into that.

Why would he feel the need to make a big deal of being a Black man on Country Music Television?
20.gif
How does that make him racist?
