Hi !

I have been looking for a stone for my girlfriend for a while. What do you think of that one ?

0.80, ACA, F and VVS2.

Many thanks. :)

A beautiful super ideal stone!! Any particular reason for the high color and clarity?

Well I am considering platinum for the ring, so I desired something as white as possible. About clarity, well no. It could have been VS1 but not so many stones when you want something specific. I could have had a bigger diamond but I think it’s overall a good compromise, she has small hands and won’t want a big stone, and I learnt recently that she likes having small diamonds all around, as a pavement (I don’t know how to say in English). And it’s on my budget.

Many thanks for your prompt answer. :)

Hard not to like that stone as its gorgeous!

I think the majority of us here would fall over in envy with this type of stone.

Also they have a great upgrade policy so if you wanted to upgrade at some point in the future you would be in great hands.

Please share the finished product!

Also just so you know, I think by pavement you mean halo. Like a ring of diamonds around the stone.

Fabulous choice!

I will definitely share the finished product. :)

They should send it anytime soon, I can’t wait to see it for real. I think I will offer it in August, then we will look for someone to create the ring (with halo :) ).

Oh my!
That is a beauty . . .

I used David Klass to design/build a setting for my girl and it is awesome. Superb work and good prices. I highly recommend.

It sounds like you are going to propose with the diamond so that she will be involved in the setting process. What a lovely idea. It also means you'll have a loose diamond to photograph! If you're wishing to, please share!

If you need any help with finding a setting, here is the place to come - although we are an opinionated lot we can help finding you the best setting for your wishes and money.

I presume as you are getting an ACA, you're going with Whiteflash, and I think that Whiteflash do some pretty great settings and custom settings too - I personally like getting the diamond and the setting through the same vendor, although it's certainly not a necessity so long as your diamond is safeguarded. There are some great vendors on here who people have lot of faith in even with externally sourced diamonds.

This is very exciting, congratulations on your upcoming proposal.

The thing is, I’m a French living in Paris. Either I find a jeweller there or in her native city. It would probably not be practical or appropriated to buy a custom design from the internet (but I might get wrong!).

Well it's difficult yes. If you bought custom from far away it can be a challenge to find a local jeweller who would be willing to service it for you. I don't know if anyone on here can recommend any French jewellers either for that or for settings themselves etc.

It's a balance right? A lot of people on here manage to do settings from afar/never see the setting in person before they receive the finished product. However they probably are a bit closer and the shipping process is a bit less risky/a bit easier. Any jeweller you choose would have to be comfortable setting an external diamond and you would need to ask them carefully what would happen if they chipped it. i.e. would you need insurance that covered that type of damage or are they liable whilst they have it?

Perhaps it's worthwhile for you to ask Whiteflash about the process before they ship the diamond to you, so you know all your options and can make the best decision, even if that's finding a local jeweller. Certainly if you find a good local jeweller to do the setting you'll have a jeweller who can do the servicing too and so that might work out better for you in the long-run. I just don't want you to get the diamond in the post and suddenly realise that you should have thought about getting the setting at the same time...

:)

Agree with @Lykame about checking your options. WF has a very large selection of settings to choose from and I think you can probably find something from their own collection, or through one of the 3rd party designer (Vatche, Tacori, etc) settings that would work for you.

And although they have lots of stuff on their site, that is just the tip of the iceberg. Conversations with WF revealed they only showcase a small portion of the 3rd party designer settings available to them. So if you like Vatche for instance, you can go directly to the Vatche website and find the setting you want and then tell WF the model number and they can get it for you.

My guess is they have bulk buying power and can make this monetarily advantageous for you.

Also, they have the ability to do custom work in-house as well as many here know. Although I bought my stone from BGD and had DK make my setting, I was almost a WF customer for good reason -- they have excellent stones, great setting selection, very fair pricing and super customer service. I wouldn't hesitate to do it all through them if that is even remotely a possibility for you.

If you are just looking for a halo, there is a good chance they already have something that works. If you wanted to tweak it slightly maybe that is just a semi-custom build and my guess would be much easier and cheaper than a full blown design/build process.

One last thing I will toss out there. If you are just wanting to set the stone in a solitaire so you can propose and then make your girl part of the setting selection process then ask WF if they will work with you. Maybe something along the lines of you pay for a basic solitaire to propose with and then once you decide on the final setting (custom or off the shelf) you send the ring back, they apply the money for the solitaire towards the final setting and then they mount everything and mail it out to you. Until I decided to go the DK route, BGD had made me this offer which I almost took and thought was super awesome of them.

Thanks for you replies. I think that I will find someone here, it's gonna be easier to design the perfect ring for her. I will let you know

Hello ! I promised to share pictures. It's quite difficult to take good ones of a loose diamand. I tried as well to take some using the scope provided by Whiteflash. I added pics of the unfinished ring, and 1 of the final result.
