I am looking to buy a loose stone for an engagement ring setting I am going to get. I'm ok with buying a setting online but I am very wary of buying a diamond site unseen online.

I found a loose stone at a local jeweler and I'm not sure what to think. The gem I was thinking of getting was a "hearts and arrows" .44 carat "D" color SI2. The stone is "eye clean" and reflects light very well. The only inclusion that was could really be noticed under the scope was at the edge and he said he would put a prong over it. Price $1400 mounted in my setting.

He had a couple other stones I wasn't that interested in because they cost to much a .51 carat SI2 D color for like 1900.

I looked into comparative prices and 1400 seemed about right with shane co stones that had similar specs that had GIA certs.

What do you think?

I would be weary of an "eye clean" SI2. Merchants have different standards when it comes to eye clean and I would not buy an SI2 without seeing an image online. Several vendors have images that are 40X magnified, you should not worry about not seeing the diamond. If you buy a H&A that is VS2, you should not have to "see" the diamond. And buying online will save you loads of money.

Im not sure if I was clear but I saw the diamonds in person at the local store. the H+A one for 1400 looked better to me than the (non H+A one).51 for 1900. They both looked eye clean to me. the H+A one was much more sparkly.
