What do you think of this OEC?

It looks pretty spectacular - I loved the video on LAD’s IG and of course that teeny wee table and high crown are magic. It is nice and big and very bright. The facets all seem to scintillating well and there’s no persistent areas of darkness.
My small nitpick would be that (personally and this is just me) I don’t love that in some of the videos 3/4 of the under table facets seem to light up at once.
This is an effect I see in AVRs and CERs as well though and once I see it I can’t unsee it. So I tend to take that as an indication that it’s going to have some bad-ass light return most likely. And most everyone else seems to like it so I figure I’m just weird in seeing it like this.
Have you seen this one as well on her site? It’s a 2.49ct L VS1. It might be too tinted for you but I figured I’d throw it in the mix if you’re considering the K.
Would love to see handshots if you buy it!

Both of these options are bad ass!! *drool*

@foxinsox I know exactly what you mean since I have noticed that same effect in AVRs- it looks bright for sure when they all light up at once, but a little flat.

It does look beautiful but I do see what foxinsox is seeing. Not sure if it would bother me or not...just something to consider. I think I would
have to order it and play with it for a little while to know my feelings for sure. She has a 7 day return period. Make sure you have a stone holder
or cheap ring stone holder for good viewing (before you order).

Is that an AVR in your avatar? Beautiful no matter what it is.

It's beautiful. I love old cuts!!!

I love the teeny table, beautiful facet pattern, and the fact that the girdle is not extremely thin which we see a lot in old cuts.

Thanks everyone for your comments! Would call you out individually but have my hands full while holding a baby :kiss2:. Well, I ordered it so that I could take a closer look. Yes that’s an AVR in my avatar (2ct I color). I am considering selling the AVR and getting the OEC. I would like a slightly larger stone and have always loved the idea of a vintage diamond with history. I just don’t know if I’ll be ok with the color—will decide in person!

I noticed the effect that fox in sox highlighted as well- my AVR does the same thing!!

Ooh exciting :appl: can’t wait to see handshots!

I received the diamond today and on its own it looks pretty spectacular:

That’s a vintage setting that I sent for as well, which I am also considering.

Compared to the AVR, the choice is less obvious:

The OEC doesn’t have the AVR’s perfect flowery pattern, but it’s bright and lovely in person. Will need to think about this further!

What do you think about the diamond and he setting? Here is a side shot of the setting:

I love that setting and I think the stone looks amazing on your hand - there’s a real size boost. How do you feel about the colour? It looks very like the AVR in your pictures but I’m not getting a sense that you’re really taken by it?

Yes, next to each other the OEC holds its own. But that's in a picture. How does it perform and how do you like that performance compared to your AVR? I like the vintage style setting. It's a little wonky but it suits the stone. If reasonably priced then go for it.

I'm loving your new OEC. For me, the charm of antique stones is that they were cut by hand by a craftsman long ago, so each one has its own character. Perfection is less interesting.

@foxinsox . I love it when I wear it on its own and I really like it in the setting! It gives it a scalloped effect and I love the geometric details. The size is also perfect.

he stone is slightly warmer than the AVR but not by much. I was surprised since the AVR is an I color— I assumed it would be a more noticeable difference. It looks like one color grade instead of two.

I just wonder if the AVR is a much better cut? Would I be giving up a lot in terms of cut and light return?

This. A thousand times. I just sent a 1.8ct I-VS1 ACA back to Whiteflash this morning that arrived Tuesday because it was so "sterile" compared to my newly acquired 1.15ct H-SI1 OEC. It was like the beautifully made up woman (and yes, that stone was gorgeous) with no personality, compared to the bubbly fun-loving but imperfect girl next door. I could have kept both, but when it came down to it, it was all about which stone had life. Perfection didn't suit me.

I love your OEC. But if it isn't making you feel something, then I would understand not keeping it. You'll know what's best and right for you.

Following this thread to see if you decide to sell your luscious AVR!

The AVR is an ideal OEC cut so should have the best light return and most precise symmetry/cut. That doesn't mean that an OEC can't also have a great cut and light return which this one does look to have - it clearly isn't as precise as the AVR but it is bright across the face, doesn't have any wierd facets that never light up or persistent dark spots, it looks to have nice patterning even if it's not as flowery.
I thought it looked very like the AVR in your pictures. How is it in motion though? Do you feel like you look at your AVR and think "mmm!" and then "huh" when you look at the OEC?

I love the setting and the size on you looks great! The gallery on that setting is amazing! The architect of the ring reminds me of an old cathedral (church).

Can you play with both of them in different lighting conditions and try to evaluate the light return/brightness, fire, etc. Is it a minor difference? Will you
miss it? Is the size worth the trade off? I know its a tough decision! Let us know what you decide! Good luck!

I had to chime in about this set. What a pretty diamond & I love the setting. It looks like the stone & setting should come as one. The faux bezel look will give the stone yet another 1mm or so of a larger look. All wins. :-)

I think you should post a for sale posting on LT & see how many would be interested and at what price. That might help your decision. Find some comparables on GOG, August Vintage & Victors site.

I have bought an AVR myself from Erica, and I love it to pieces.
Your chosen OEC looks pretty perfect for me, I love the facet pattern. It even looks better in the antique setting.

Of course your AVR is also a beauty, I have never seen one in real life. A comparison video would be really helpful.

May I ask you, if the setting was also sent to you by Erica?

Hi @dkata the setting is an antique setting from Erika. I like it though I worry that the diamond will be difficult to clean and that there might be diminished light return since the bottom half of the diamond is covered.

I tried uploading a video but the file was too large, and I don’t have a YouTube account. The main difference to my eye (besides size and color) is that the AVR has a perfectly shaped flower in the center- it’s very crisp and visible with the naked eye especially in a 2ct+ diamond. The OEC is also very beautiful and sparkly, but the center isn’t as precise— you don’t have a perfect flower though it still looks flowery. The AVR is a little bit more sparkly if you comprare them side to side as well.

As much as it pains me to say, I think you might want to send it back. It just does not seem to have really spoken to you. And I think we all get that.

Thanks @ohsomethingshiny I might just do that and keep looking though sometimes I feel like I’m trying to findthis unicorn that doesn’t exist. the more time I spend with it the more i like it though.

Here is a video that I took of both diamonds under a tree looking fab:

Both look amazing!

Wow, they do look fab! The video was kind of far away for me. The only thing I did notice is that it looked like the flashes coming off the AVR were
ever so slightly bigger and the AVR does look to have better light return (but that isnt surprising). You may have been spoiled by your AVR! Tough
call! Is a trade up on your AVR to a bigger AVR out of the question?

@tyty333 here’s a video that’s more up close! They are both reflecting off the green tree

After watching both, I think I’d return the OEC. My reasoning is purely financial. You have a gorgeous AVR. It does everything you want. The OEC, while also beautiful, is matching but not exceeding what you already have (based off your feedback). So the question becomes “why spend the money for what you already have?” That’s a lot of money for a little more finger coverage but a loss of the light return.

They both look amazing to me too! To my very untrained eye, they seem too similar to switch to the OEC.
