What do you think of this OEC?

I have to say they looked more similar in the last video (to me). The only differences I can put my finger on are color and size. You mentioned
that the centers are different but are you seeing any distinguishable difference in sparkle (amount/size etc)?

My eyes are kind of tired tonight. I'll look again tomorrow. Of course your opinion is what matters but it would be nice to get some other OEC
owners opinions.

Wow, tough call, they both look amazing> To be honest the OEC is looking whiter to me in the videos, maybe it's just the camera angle/finger thing. They both are performing very well. I think I know exactly what you are talking about the crisp perfect flower pattern in the AVR vs the flowery arrows of your new stone. In a still photo I love the AVR, but in motion I feel like the OEC has more personality - slightly more of that disco ball fire that you only see in antique cuts.

Just my 2cents. They are both gorgeous, best of luck with your decision

I think they look really similar in that last video - both very bright and with great light play. If this one doesn’t speak to you as you need it to and you didn’t find K too tinted, would it be worth sending for the 2.49 L? The description says it’s uber flowery so it could be worth a look since you love the perfect flower petals of the AVR (and no wonder cos they’re gorgeous).
Not at LAD but these two at JBG look to have lovely petals under the table, 2.63 K VS2 and 2.91 L VS1 and are a decent step up in size from the AVR for about the same as the K you’re considering already. Would they be an option?

I think that you guys are right. Reading everyone’s comments made me realize that I’m not in love and should keep looking. I basically want a step up in size from the AVR, and I want an antique stone— the first ring I fell in love with 10 years ago was a huge OMC disco ball with a big puffy crown in a beautiful antique platinum setting. I love the history and uniqueness of these stones, but I have been a bit spoilt by the AVR and also pricescope. Now I notice every little defect! Maybe I should look st transitional cuts- since they are a bit more simmetrical but still offer chunky faceting?

@foxinsox I looked at the K you suggested and it seems like a couple of the facets under the table are a bit leaky? The La are interesting but I want to stick to k color or above.

I do love the search though!

Hmm! I can’t tell. I just watched all the videos and I think the ones you mean are the ones at 1 o’clock and 2 o’clock? They look like they light up with the others in some of the videos and not in others?
If the shipping isn’t ridiculous, would it be worth a look?
You might need to look for a while to find an OEC with the same precision as an AVR if the K you got from LAD isn’t close enough. Or look at a slightly different cut like the transitional or an OMC so you’re not always comparing it with your AVR?

Oh exciting. And also aargh. Must not look must not look. An upgrade is not currently in our budget but your AVR is pretty glorious

@foxinsox thank you! The AVR IS pretty perfect and 2+ ct in higher colors are few and far between— I just want something bigger  . I’ll post some extra photos in the preloved forum soon!

I see that you have gone ahead and listed your AVR on Preloved. Dust for a quick sale! If you haven’t already, reach out to Adam at Old World Diamonds. He has a huge inventory of OECs and is extremely helpful and easy to work with. Enjoy the hunt!

Thank you @Bonfire I will reach out to him when the AVR sells. If it doesn’t sell though it won’t be the end of the world, since it’s a lovely stone!

Hi @prbaglady! Although this thread is a little old, I thought I’d chime in on your OEC search because the 2.49 L OEC that @foxinsox has been referring to was my previous engagement ring diamond before I upgraded to my current one. I have lots of threads and pics around here if you’d like to take a look to consider whether it would be too warm for your taste or worth a shot. It was previously set in CvB’s “Casablanca” and for reference, the melee diamonds were “I” colored. Before that, it was in a solitaire.
I honestly wouldn’t have been able to notice the color difference vs a K stone. It’s not yellow by any means, and it absorbs all the colors around it. I actually like the faceting of my old stone better than my current one, but I’m a sucker for size

Erica has a great return policy, and so it might be worth checking out. To be clear, I have ZERO to gain if you eventually purchase the stone since I already have my upgrade, just putting in a shout out for my former diamond 8)

@sweetpea&babycorn thank you so much for responding! I was going to trade in my existing diamond for a new one with LAD, but I decided to consign it instead, so I need to wait for my diamond to sell before I can make any moves!

But I’ll definitely consider your old stone if/when my diamond sells.
