What do people think about mixing shapes?

e.g. if e-ring is a round brilliant and so are studs, does it look better to also have a round brilliant solitaire pendant, or would a cushion or asscher cut pendant also look ok?

I know that people will say, "Do what you like - there are no rules" but still wondering how many of you mix shapes and if you do not, why not?

If you do mix shapes, can you please post some photos?

Not everything has to be matchy-matchy in my life, but I do like things to look "pulled together" and not like an afterthought.

Thanks in advance!

I don't even think about it, and I'd assume that most people are the same. In terms of diamonds, I have a princess engagement ring with princess and round stones in the wedding band. See my avatar. I often wear a bezel-set round diamond necklace and bezel-set round diamond studs. They're so far away from my ring that nobody would even know the difference. When you put colored stones into the mix, I mix shapes like crazy! I try to match colors, but with shape, anything goes. Even within the same multi-stone piece. I never even considered that matching shapes is something people try to do. In general, your hands are so far away from your neck/ears (and earrings are just so hidden anyway) that there's really no way to tell whether or not you're mixing shapes unless someone is specifically looking for it.

i do NOT think you have to keep the same shapes. Diamonds themselves match enough that I dont think you have to match their shape too. I dont have a necklace, but I wear a marquise and round rings, and ive never thought they look bad. (but then again i wouldnt wear them if i did haha)

never gave it a thought. I have cushion earrings, tube set rounds in a necklace, square, emerald and french cuts in rings....

I like to mix shapes within a piece, so I wouldn't give it a second thought for my separate pieces to have different shapes. I tend to match metal or color, but I am also moving toward mixing metals and coordinating color. I like the visual interest of not being too matchy matchy.

Thanks everyone! I am trying to think about a new project and have a million ideas floating around, and only a few of them involve round brilliants, which is what I've tended to in the past!

Yea I mix shapes all the time, my e-ring is a princess, my wedding band is round diamond, one of my right hand rings are emerald cuts.

+1 mixing shapes. I never even thought about it.

I'm also a "mixer", lol! I have a princess 3 stone that I wear with a MRB 1/2 eternity and have recently just acquired a princess eternity band and am hunting down a baguette band as I type! I like the mix and match looks as the different cuts seem to sparkle in different ways.

I also don 't think it matters I have emerald engament ring marquis eternity band, RB studs, pear pendant and rb pendant. its all good

I also mix it up. I would probably think it was a little boring if everything matched. I have a DBTY necklace I wear all the time, then a cushion ering, and typically an OEC as my RHR. I'm sort of all over the palce.
