What are your thoughts on this oval ring? Should I exchange it?

Hi, my husband bought me this ring via Etsy to replace my old ring that lost a stone. I really liked it at first but when I saw it in different lighting I noticed a couple of things that don't look right. I am not very familiar with diamonds, but from what I see here there may be an issue with the cut. The seller offered to exchange the stone but I have a feeling that the replacement will look similar. It doesn't really bother me that much, but want to know if it was worth $2,300.

First, I see dark spots in the top and bottom of the stone (I flipped the ring for pictures since I could not take a picture that showed the darkness on both ends at the same time). I don't mind the bow tie, although the seller did note that it didn't have one.

Also, I think the stone is a bit see through. When placed against a colored surface you can see the color very clearly, that was not the case with my old stone, but it was a round cut so I am not sure if that is expected with ovals. It just looks odd to me.

IGI certificate - 3.01 ct, E, VS1, 1.5 ratio, 59% table, 64.4% depth, excellent polish and symmetry.

We (lovingly?) call those earmuffs...the darkness at the N/S ends of ovals. Unfortunately, a lot of ovals do have them. The cut
through the center doesn't look too bad IMO. Most ovals will have a little bit of leakage through the center where you will
see whats behind them.

With all that being said, if the stone bothers you, and it seems like it does, I think you should take your jewelers offer and
find a new stone.

You probably want to look around and find what you like and don't like in an oval so you can give your jeweler more direction.
Several people have been liking 4 main ovals lately.

You might check out some recent oval threads....

Trying to choose a stone and love the look of the 4 main on 360s but I’ve never actually seen a video of one. Does anyone happen to have a video of a 4 main oval?

I'm so far down a rabbit role... while lab grown diamonds are intriguing to me it's making me dizzy. If anyone would care to help find an oval I would really appreciate it. I looked at DG and while beautiful it's a bit out of my budget,
Looking to update my engagement ring so I can wear it with my eternity band and sit flush.
In search of center stone oval - color D E F and more focused on cut and light performance . The videos are just heard to make sense for me.
Carat: 4 to 5ish open to stay on the lower end if it's a well-cut diamond
Ratio 1.40-1.48 but open to others...
 
I don’t know much about ovals, but seeing through a diamond from the side should be be an issue. Portrait cuts deliberately allow you to see right through them.

You don’t want to see through them from the face up angle. The facets are cut and optimized so light entering from above is bounced back to your eye. I think your able to notice this more on your oval bc of the length.

Thank you so much for sending these links! Very helpful. I ended up keeping the ring as is because it seems like what I am looking at is common in 8 main B cuts. For example, I can see a bit of darkness at the top tip of these diamonds (the earmuffs) when the light hits them a certain way. I just wanted to confirm that the stone did not have a one off defect. So if it is a common defect or not ideal feature of the stone I am ok with it.

I can see the earmuffs a lot less on this one, but I think the slightly darker tips are still there. Maybe I am not that great at differentiating the fine details.
