These are two great vendors with beautiful diamonds! You are the only one who can decide! Will the wearer value a little greater size or a color grade higher? The other big question is what kind of setting does the person want?

Do you have an idea for the setting? If you have your heart on WF or VC making the setting, it could be an easier transaction to make it a one stop shopping experience.

The ACA stone certainly looks brighter in the picture and reflector images under the table, but I don't know how much difference this will make in real life.

My girl values a size than a color. I wonder if she will notice any difference unless she see them side by side.

I live in LA, so I won't have a chance to see WF stone before ordering but I believe it will look great as well.

Is it a surprise? maybe take your girlfriend to local shops and examine GIA/AGS graded G and H stones to see if you can see a notable difference before ordering.

Are they similarly priced?

Yes, it is a surprise, so I do not want to bring her to any jewelry store.
WF stone is 20k and Victor stone is 19.2k.
Victor also offers 10% if I get the diamond with the setting.
WF stone with Victor setting will cost $350 additional. If I order WF stone, I will get WF setting.

Tough decision.

I think it would be impossible to tell G from H in jewelry store lighting. I think if she values size, I'd go for the larger stone. It's not easy to find super ideal cut stones in the 1.9+ range.

I would still use Victor regardless of where you buy the diamond. Or if he is only setting his own stones at this time, you would have to decide whether to go for his stone or have someone else set the stone.

HI:

+1 to DS'ers entry about the challenge in finding very well cut diamonds just under the 2 c mark.

How do the vendors trade up policies compare?

cheers--Sharon

The only thing that prevents me getting the WF stone and Victor setting is my budget.
My budget is around 22k. If I get the WF stone and Victor setting, the total will be $20,000 + $3,695 + $350 = $24,045.
Getting both from Victor will cost me $22,520 ($19,195 + $3,325).
Therefore, if I get the WF stone, I can only spend $2,500 on the setting. However, it won't be hand forged.

My local jeweller can do this setting for $1,900. I might have them do it if I get the WF stone.

I guess after buying the ring, I won't care about this as much as I do now. lol

Both have a great trade up policy. Equivalent or higher value.

My girl values a size than a color. I wonder if she will notice any difference unless she see them side by side.
I doubt she would perceive any difference even if she saw them side by side (unless maybe she knew they aren't the same size & was keenly scrutinizing them in an effort to ascertain which was "larger." The WF stone's face-up surface area is calculated to be a mere 3% more than that of the VC diamond -- and even the longest of the WF diameter measurements (7.98 mm) is less than 32/100 of an inch.

I think the VC setting you're considering is exquisite in design (and you can feel confident that the execution will be top-notch); you have viewed the VC diamond in person & seem captivated by it; think you would enjoy working with Victor; and his trade-up policy is the same as WF.

So with all that, I'd cast my vote for getting the complete ring from VC, unless you want to hold steadfast to the budget of $22K. I myself think it would worth going 2.3% over budget in this instance vs. saving a hair (.55 of 1%) by opting for the WF ACA-local jeweler's cast setting combo, but whether to exceed one's contemplated budget ceiling is a very personal decision.

Thank you for your input. I will go with VC for the whole ring.
I should receive it by the end of this month and will post some pictures!! :D

Hey!

This is the final ring. I can't wait to see this on her ring finger.

Victor only had 10-15X loupes, so I couldn't see the inscription from AGS.
Should I bring it to another jeweler to have it appraised?

The upper part was designed as a heart shape. I don't know my girl will notice it though.

Here are the pictures.

What a stunning ring!!! I admired it on Victor's FB today. I love the beautiful detailing, like the heart shape gallery. I am sure she will be thrilled.
