Happy new week all!

The weather is finally NOT pants for the time being in the British Isles and the sun has made a wee appearance...
emhot.gif
I had even forgotten that the sky is blue...

emcry.gif
Anyway enough of my dramatizing, now one can finally wear T shirts and shorts at times and other summer threads which makes a pleasant change!

So it is a good time to keep on with the workouts and a great excuse to show off the results of all our hard work!! Actually now is a great time to take stock of weak points and re - evaluate goals, due to more areas being on show!
emembarrassed.gif
Also with the great weather, it is good to move workouts outside as some of you have done, make the most of this time of year, also being able to mix up the routine is always beneficial to keep your body on it''s toes!

Great job all!

Good to see you Jeff! You have got old songs running through my mind now and dating meself too!

You guys are so sweet! I am always around...

Kudos to everyone on the progress. I've stalled a bit as I still haven't started tracking my cals...but I've decided to try again in earnest.

Question for those of you who have protein shakes... I can never seem to drink them as I don't think I digest them properly. I get a very uncomfortable feeling in my mid-back area, similar to what I get when I have 8 oz or so of straight milk, or a particular killer, Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. I mix the powder with water, BTW. Do you think I could be lactose intolerant or something? I can have ice cream and cheese to my heart's content... I have the GNC whey protein powder (20g of protein and 130cals). Does anyone know of a powder that might work for lactose intolerant folks?

I have seen them advertised with a goats milk protein instead of cows milk, which is good for lactose intolerants Peach. I have spotted these in muscle mags, one is advertised with Mary Lado. ' Oryx Goat Whey" is the name.

Mind if I join you fine group of people?

Here is a quick personal background. After two pregnancies and a lot of major life changes (two kids, career, relocating, being home with the kids, working from home, balancing it all!)... taking care of myself ended up being last on the list. My "babies" are now 4- and 6-years-old. So, I have bumped myself up to the top of the list.

2.gif

Five weeks ago, I joined the gym right down the street. It has childcare, a few of my friends go there and my kids like going there. I also took advantage of a weekly personal training package the gym was offering. And, I started following the Weight Watchers plan.

I am happy to report that as of this morning, I am down another 1.5 pounds for a total of 9.5 pounds in five weeks. I am also down one size. I am also Weight Watchers new greatest fan. LOL!

As far as working out goes, my goal has been to be realistic. With two kids and summer upon us (they are with me 24/7), I decided that four good, focused workouts per week at the gym would work best. I workout with my trainer on Thursday mornings. I take her spinning class on Friday mornings. On Tuesday mornings, I hit the gym for cardio and weights. And one day over the weekend, I workout. The rest of the week is "free exercise" meaning I play at the pool with the kids, play soccer with the kids, walk with the kids, have DH watch the kids after dinner so my best friend and I can walk.

As I am down almost 10 pounds... this plan of attack seems to be working. So, I am going to stick with it! My first goal is to reach my Pre-Son#2 weight. I have less than 10 pounds to go. The second goal will be to reach my Pre-Son#1 weight. My thrid, and final goal, will be to weigh 10 pounds less than I did before Pre-Son#1.

My rough calculations have me reaching my goal close to my 11th wedding anniversary in the beginning of October. Which means something SPARKLY is going to be purchased. And what keeps me going is planning, browsing and considering what that bauble is going to be.

9.gif

This weekend was really busy for us. We worked around the house all day yesterday. So, I was unable to get to the gym. Instead, my best friend (who is also following Weight Watchers) and I took a brisk walk. When she went back to her house, I continuing on jogging/walking. I didn't lift weights. But I got a decent cardio workout in.

And while it is not pants here in the Mid-Atlantic region of the US... it is HOT. The temp is supposed to be close to 100 degrees today and the sun is already blazing. A good day to workout INSIDE.

As far as whey protein goes... if ice cream and cheese do not bother you Peachy, I am wondering if it is just that the whey protein is so highly concentrated. I believe that there are protein powders made with soy protein instead of cow's milk protein.

Welcome to another week everyone... let's make it a GOOD, HEALTHY ONE!!!!!!!

Of COURSE you can join us Joolskie, welcome to the thread!

Great job on your attitude, workout plan and weight loss, it sounds as if you have a mix which will work for you and indeed has already! Good job!

Happy Monday! Thanks for the great and inspirational opening Lorelei! We dropped from the 90's to 60's hear yesterday because of a nice rain.

I want to go do some more walking in the park this week. Pretty flowers and great exercise. It's a win - loose lbs situation.

I dropped 1/2 pound yesterday so hopefully I can add 1 to my poundage soon.

Welcome Peachy and Joolskie.

Peachy, that's great you are back to counting calories.

It sounds you are doing great so far, Joolskie. Almost 10 pounds lost. Yeah!

Have a great day!

Morning All,

Thanks for the well wishes, marcy, Skip and Mara.

Mara, a 6 mile hike is awesome. The lake near our house is 6 miles around; I love going there to hike, we haven't been in a few weeks and you're making me want to head out there. I have actually stopped calorie counting and been adding an extra snack into my day because I spend so much time chasing after kids and I figured between that and workouts I might need to eat a bit more; I'm eating about 1600-1700 calories a day plus our splurge nights, so I should be just fine in that regard. We've also been eating more red meat than usual to see if that helps. My weight is steady between 125-127. John suggested I gain 5 pounds yesterday, but I don't think that's the issue because I've been at this weight for 13 weeks now so I can't imagine it all of a sudden being a problem. I need to be better about taking my vitamins, that's for sure. Lorelei mentioned new goals in her opening and that is one of mine.

Skip, you may be right, I may just need to realize how busy I've been (I hate it when people say that!) and factor that in to feeling a bit unlike myself.

Marcy, way to go on more weight loss!

Welcome, Jooksie. Glad you found a program that works for you.

J made enchiladas for dinner and this morning I feel like I have a rock sitting in my tummy! Today is work and wrapping up one of my classes and I am making cupcakes for work tomorrow - a graduation and a birthday.

Have a fantastic day all!

Kim I hope you feel better soon!

Ugh. Broke the scale boycott today and I GAINED 1/2 a lb!
7.gif
I understand that people fluctuate, but I am NOT usually one of them. I always weigh myself at the same time/ in same situation, so it's usually pretty consistent.

I really just don't get it. I'm working out pretty hard, eating well, and nothing's happening. I'm someone who usually drops weight somewhat easily once I set my mind to it, so I don't understand.

I weigh/measure all my portions, so I know it's not that. I AM working out with weights, so maybe I am just gaining muscle, who knows. Grrrrrrrrr......

Anyway, frustrated today. Granted I didn't have the healthiest day on Saturday, but one day of unhealthy eating shouldn't derail everything. Ugh.

NF don''t despair, it took Mara a while before the scales started to change favourably, I know how frustrating it is but you ARE getting trimmer, even if it isn''t registering on the scales, hang on girl!

Hello all -- a few months ago I popped up and said howdy, here I am...and never posted again. I''ve been reading this board faithfully for months now, though, and it''s time I put up or shut up, as it were. I feel I know so much about so many of you...it''s so cool!

After my wedding and during a rather stressful year at work, I managed to put on a rather noticeable 10 pounds. So much easier to put on than take off. Weight gain was almost inevitable due to the fact that I was putting in 16 hour days, not sleeping more than 4-5 hours a night during the week, and just stressed. My body was in panic mode!

Inspired by this thread, I made a promise to myself to have a healthier life. I am well rested and working out at least four days a week -- I''ve lost 4 pounds, which is great, but I feel and look healthier, which is even better.

I''m currently addicted to the most hysterical tape that I got suckered into watching some bad TV -- it''s called Yoga Booty Ballet, and let me tell you, my booty has seen the light! It is not quite as awesome to walk around with a sore tushie for the next day, so I often hobble around muttering, "Feel the burn! Feel the booty burn!" The tapes are both silly and serious and a nice combo of cardio, stretching, and resistance work. With the occasional new-agey comment thrown in for good measure.

Because of this thread I''ve also joined sparkpeople and am learning that sodium is not my friend, and that the wine I love so much doesn''t always love me back -- either or both of those tend to make my body cling to poundage for a couple of days.

So, hi. I promised myself that I would not be a one-hit wonder on this board anymore!

To the elliptical, Batman!

NF, Do not let the scale get to you; I fluctuate 2 pounds consistently and have for 13 weeks (I just realized that this morning when looking back at my weigh ins) and I''m not trying to lose, just maintain. It''s just the way it works, as frustrating as it is.

Welcome back, jas. Hooray for silly workout tapes that work!

Thanks, Miss Lorelei, I hope so too!

Welcome back Jas and good luck with the * Batlipptical*

Marcyc, I am so glad to see you here in the WWT thread. I must confess... your gemstone candy dish truly inspired me. Just last night I was thinking about how cool it would be to purchase a small gem for each week I have stayed on course and put them in a candy dish. I already keep the few loose gemstones I have in their boxes right on my desk (I work from home). I love taking breaks from working to look at my gems. The best thing about having a candy gem dish is that it brings more joy than food and ZERO POINTS.

My interns are in a training class, so I'm taking a quick break to check in this morning!!

Welcome Joolskie and Jas. So nice to see new people who are making great strides in their health and fitness goals!! Good for you!

Neatfreak.......don't let that 1/2 lb., concern you. I know you said you typically don't fluctuate, but 1/2 pound is nothing to be concerned about. And yes, if you're using weights, muscle definitely weighs more than fat, so it's completely plausible you've got some muscle gain going on!!

Thanks for the weekly opener Lorelei........glad the weather's not PANTS and you're able to enjoy some sun and blue skies for a change!!

Will check in from time to time today. Tonight's not a workout night and I'm afraid we have a business dinner tomorrow night, so we will be missing the gym two whole days in a row. Bummer, but maybe it will actually be a positive as we rarely if ever take two days off, so it will at least give our muscles a little extra time to heal and grow a bit.

Anwway, happy Monday to everyone!!

Happy Monday everyone!

I''m maintaining at only 1 lb off my low, but I *feel* bigger, LOL. I know this will be short lived but it''s definitely not making me happy.

This morning I went to Starbucks for coffee but I stopped at a store with all sorts of fruit and got a banana and grapes in lieu of lemon pound cake. The HH is traveling until Thursday night so I should be able to be pretty good most of the week, although I''m supposed to do take out with one of my clients one evening. Not sure exactly what we''ll end up having but we usually do filets (yes, steak for take out...
20.gif
... )

The leg is still there and turning iteresting colors. I CAN''T WAIT to be back to normal!!

Rod, your weekend sounded marvelous!

Lorelei, so glad the weather has stopped being pants for you!
9.gif

Welcome Joolskie and hello peachy!

jas, the yoga booty ballet sounds like fun! Is there only one routine or is it a series?

Marcy, congrats on the extra 1/2 lb!

Kimberly, how did your house hunting go?

Neatfreak, back... away... from... the... scale.... (I know, me saying that is like the pot calling the kettle black!) It must be muscle.

Skippy, how''s your knee feeling?

Morning WWT Friends
35.gif

Lorelei, glad the weather isn't pants friend!!!! Englad is gorgeous; you lucky girl. I love fish n chips and those ploughman's lunch. Oh yah and Harrod's! My favorite is "Mind the Gap." When we go back I am soooo buying a tee shirt.

Hey Peachy, you are too cute! Whoooo hooo, honey! Glad you are back; sounds good that you are tracking cals!

Welcome Joolskie, I am glad you are taking care of yourself for your little ones!!! I always hear if the parents are healthy then the kids will be too so you are doing good for both of you!!!

Marcy, yah to the 1/2 lb, hope you don't have too many emails to answer today. Glad you had a week off last week, friend!

Kimberly, don't feel bad about doing too much. Where I use to work we worked 55-60 hrs a week or more and when people went on vacation they ended up getting sick. Over the holiday's I slept so much. Working takes a lot out you especially since you are working and going to school (doubled up on classes). Take care of yourself sweetie pie.

Neatfreak, 1/2 isn't bad at all maybe you ate something salty plus you maintained and you are lifting weights. Good Job, it will come off soon.

Hi Jas, I love your wedding pics!!! Yah for the 4 lbs! Welcome back!

Hey Rod, sorry you have a work dinner. Have fun with the interns. Enjoy your 2 days off but come back and kick butt; we know you will. hehe

Dee, I am glad you are healing. I hope your leg is no longer throbbing. I am better; thanks for asking.

Mara, woman, I am excited to make your banana nut bran muffins today. I looked at the banana's last night and they are ripe. Wow, you stayed out late and on top of that made your coworker cupcakes! You are a busy bee and so sweet to stay up late to do that. Awesome on the 6 miles!!! Whoo hooo there.
9.gif

I am walking tonight. Last night I made shrimp on the grill and having it for dinner again. I used a cooking light receipe. Happy Monday

I just looked up through my office skylight and I think I might be in for some more PANTY weather any moment! Grey clouds have gathered yet again...

Skippers, I love a good ploughmans with cheddar and pickled onions and pickle and proper butter - yummo!
Harrods is pretty good too...

Morning, happy Monday WWTr''s!

I went through the weekend''s posts really quickly last night and posted a few sentences on that thread but I will repost here.

DH and I had a very productive weekend...went to the Police concert at Wrigley Field Friday night, (Kimberly it was so fun, you would''ve loved it!), then Saturday and Sunday we spent a lot of time outdoors doing work around the yard at our house and my in-laws'' house as they are OOT for the weekend.

Rod, sounds like you had a fabulous weekend! My j-o-b search is sort of in limbo right now...I''ve been really enjoying having this time off and am getting a lot accomplished at home, so i must confess I haven''t done a ton of searching this past week or so. I look through the paper and job boards frequently but nothing''s popped up that I''ve been very interested in. I did not get the job I went on the interview for, which is probably for the best because I fear I would not have been the perfect fit for that company even though they are supposedly great to work for. Anyway, I did go ahead and file for unemployment benefits...I''ve worked since I was 17 years old without interruption and figured i''ve paid into the system all these years so I don''t feel bad about it at all. You can file online now, so fortunately I didn''t have to go stand in a line at the actual office or anything.

Jas, good to see you again! Your post this morning was hilarious!
35.gif

Lorelei, glad your weather is not "pants" this morning, lol! As always, an inspirational opener, thanks!

I think I''ll check back in later tonight, i''m having some fruit for breakfast now but have nothing else exciting to report...see you all tonight!

lorelei, i hope you are taking advantage of your non-pants weather to take some good horsey pics you can share with us! i swear, you have been the biggest tease...

welcome joolskie and jas, and congrats on your success so far. yoga booty sounds fun!

peachy, i would try soy protein if you have trouble with the whey.

marcy, keep up the good work! i wish my pounds would drop off as quickly as yours seem to!

kimberly, hope you are feeling back up to snuff soon.

neatfreak, i wouldn''t worry about 1/2 lb, it could easily just be water.

rod, glad you and charlie had a nice weekend.

dj, don''t stress so much about your weight. it sucks that you can''t exercise for a few weeks, but you''re already committed to a healthy routine and will bounce right back once you''re able. relax! hope your leg feels better soon. p.s. i finally found the lean cuisine butternut squash ravioli you like so much and am excited to try it for lunch today!

skippy, enjoy your walk.

monnie, you sound like you have a good attitude about the job situation and are enjoying your break!

last night i made summer rolls for dinner, so light and tasty and perfect for the heat wave here. they are like spring rolls, but not fried, just a fresh rice paper wrapper, and i stuffed them with marinated tofu, carrots, spinach, scallion, and mint. also, had a starbucks light coffee frap as a treat for dessert on route to an outdoor movie.

today i had some leftover cottage/cheese oatmeal pancakes for breakfast, and will have a lean cuisine and nectarine for lunch (sorry mara, not so fresh and inspiring, but it was a busy weekend and i didn''t have time to prep anything better!). dinner will be a stirfry with lots of fresh veggies. i''ve got blisters on my hands from kayaking yesterday, so i''m going to go get some gloves after work today, and will do the stationary bike at home later.

have a good one!

SB - I will get some soon hopefully if the weather cooperates of Miss Jasmine!

Lorelei, yes ma''am, you are correct! Sting''s son has a band also and they opened the show, they were great and he looks and sounds uncannily like his father!

I have heard of Sting''s son, that he was now into the music business - how kewl Monnie!

Just from Dieting (staying 500 calories under my maintain requirement-- so 1500 a day) I am seeing that my clothes I bought last month are fitting slightly loose. I''m not planning on weighing myself again until my next doctor appointment which is... mid August. So... hopefully just the body changes will keep me on track.

I think I finally found the motivation to work out.

Yesterday we walked 5 miles (with an hour break at 2.5) then swam laps for about 20 minutes (breast stroke for my arms).
Strange thing is that I''m not really sore today. My bum is a bit and my arms-- but no where near as bad as I thought they would be. And I have more energy. So I think that I''ll give the elliptical a try tonight for a 1/2 hour, and may go for a short swim again, weather permitting.

I had a white omlette yesterday, I''ve been using egg substitute but LOVE the egg whites in comparison. So good.

So far so good. I start the 2 pills of Metformin for 2 weeks today. Which reminds me that I have to take that now. Hopefully once I''m up to the full dose my insulin resistance issues will be ameliorated.

Oh I bought a pria bar, but have yet to try it.
Hi Lorelie!!!! You are such a great thread leader! Thank you for the opening! I hope the good weather continues!
Hi Peachy!
Welcome Jookskie!
35.gif

Kimberly-- I hope you get a bead on what''s wrong with soon!
Sorry for the set back neatfreak... but I wouldn''t let it get you down-- I''ve heard that for women at different times of the month there can be a slight fluctuation. Despite what the scale says you have been losing weight and can see the changes in your body, so keep sight of that as it''s what really counts.
Welcome back Jas!
Rod-- I''m glad you had a great weekend!
DeeJay-- I''m glad you are healing!
Skippy-- I lOVE shrimp on the grill that''s what I had on Saturday night. YUM! Enjoy!
Monarch-- Oh I SO wanted to go to that concert! How was it?
Shortblonde-- sorry about the blisters! I''ve got one bad one on the back of my heel (rubbed raw) from walking myself. Hate that, don''t you?

Happy Monday!!!

Monarch -- I was there on Friday night, too! I was the one singing along, jumping up and down. Did you see me? I like to think that Sting did.
31.gif

On topic -- I figure grooving for a couple of hours on Friday night plus running for the train burned a couple of hundred calories!

awww lorelei, pantsy weather is DEFINITELY not fun!! so true about more areas being on display in summer, i keep working on my arms and legs for a reason hehee. that is what shows in all the pictures! hee.

skippy, yeah that 6m walk was awesome! i am taking a lighter day today to do a ''home'' workout and will walk to whole foods around lunch time to get some fruit and fage...so it will be a nice break from trekking the hills (which happens again tomorrow).

rod, funny but actually krispy kreme donuts are probably the most ''healthy'' (or least unhealthy) of donuts out there in terms of calories and fat. they are really not that bad. a regular KK is only i think 200 cals, so lorelei''s splurge was probably only about 400 cals so not too much more than your panera tart scone and i''d much rather have TWO DONUTS hee.
2.gif
i am a donut whore, i freely admit it.

so today is my coworker''s birthday, came in and decorated her cube up with my coworker, pretty sparkly confetti, we got her these big paper mache flowers that we draped around, did streamers. my coworker brought donuts, i brought my cupcakes and we had various gifts (small and big) for her. she''s pretty jazzed. i definitely am having at least 1/2 a donut, budgeted it into my day already...so hopefully i can just stick to that one and not go nuts on the box lol. i had 1/4 of one of my chocolate pumpkin muffins since the gals wanted to try them.

peachy on the protein powder, i am not sure why you''d feel like that and not feel like that with other forms of dairy (actually call me a dumdum but i didn''t realize that protein powder was dairy?)...i have the whey protein powder, isolate form which is the best for building muscle and also isolate is the fastest acting to your muscles. soy is apparently not really recommended to build the muscles, as it acts in a different manner. or that is what i read anyway. they recommend the whey. also i have found that diff pp''s taste and feel differently in my body. the vanilla TJ''s one whips up more frothy and creamy and thick and tends to ''fill'' me up more. the designer whey one i have mixes up thinner and not as frothy and not as ''filling''. so it depends on how i want to feel, like if i just want to drink something with the consistency of chocolate milk, i will do the designer whey. if i want a more milkshakey thick drink, i do the vanilla (or a blend of both like yesterday which turned out really fab). so i would experiment with diff powders too.

oh and neatfreak, yes put that scale boycott back on! i have not been to the gym in over a week and a half now so that means no weigh in for me, which i am totally fine with. i can tell my body is changing, i measured myself and my hips dropped back down 1/2" so i feel good about that. and my belly is less bloated because i have been eating less carbs on a daily basis...so that is positive as well. it''s interesting to experiment with your body and see what works vs what doesn''t for sure. i was just really tired of being discouraged by the scale and really it''s all about fitting into the clothes i have bought myself in smaller sizes, as long as THAT is happening, quite frankly i really don''t care what i weigh and the trainer finally drove that home to me with our last conversation.

DJ, i can''t believe that your bruise is still hanging around, that is crazy!! mine tend to hang around a week or so but typically not longer than that. i hate banging myself because they do last a long time and turn all sorts of crazy colors before going away hehe. i''m pretty clumsy actually, greg always makes fun of me because literally my balance is totally off, and i will bump into wall corners and stuff while just rounding a corner. he says my ''spatial'' somethingorother is off, like i think things are farther away than they really are then POWEE. owie.
3.gif

breakfast this morning was my new high protein fiber standby, 2 egg whites scrambled, kashi go lean with almond milk, blueberries, and strawberries and coffee. snack is going to be either 1/2 a SB protein bar or 1/2 a donut (lol which is more nutritional, doh), lunch is my leftover halibut, almond rice pilaf and asparagus from last nite, and then i am going to walk over and get some fage and fruit for work at whole foods for snack this afternoon. dinner will probably be TJ''s beef enchiladas (something like 350 cals and 30g protein for 2!) with some black beans and corn and salad. i''d love a mixed up pp shake for dessert for about 100 cals...so we''ll see how the day goes. i plan to do an ''at home'' workout this evening with maybe a short walk.

have a great day all!

She''s right. If you check both web sites, 2 KK donuts have some ''healthier'' attributes over one Panera tart cherry scone and a tart cherry scone has some healthier attributes over 2 KK donuts. But, I''m glad you enjoyed them so Lorelei and for that it merits being repeated
31.gif
. For me, if you put 2 donuts and 1 cherry scone out and told me I could have which ever I wanted, I''d just opt for the scone, so I guess I''m a scone whore!! LOL

So sorry about PANTSY weather there Lorelei. We''re in the middle of drought down here, so we''d gladly take some of your PANTSY weather to be sure.
