Hi! Last night we did go on a 25 min walk, so I feel much better knowing I got in some exercise. Today I biked to work (5 mins) and taught my 3 hour lab and also walked 10 mins to lunch for a coworker''s bday.

Lorelei & lovelylulu - I haven''t ever actually done pilates, I''m more of a yoga girl, but I bet I would like it too. My chiropractor has been giving me stretches and exercises to relieve my muscle strain, strenthen my core muscles, and correct my posture, and yoga has been helping with that as well. I know that pilates is more about strenghtening your core muscles than yoga is, which is why I suggested it.

I''ll be going to the gym in the morning to start my new schedule. I''ll let you know how it goes.

Keep on TRAKin ladies and ROD

Jeff.....we''ll look forward to a full report!!

Yeah....tonight was the last of the three consecutive gym sessions. We worked out extra hard tonight in anticipation of tomorrow and a day of rest. Tomorrow is Sushi night!! I can taste that spicy tuna roll as I type this. Yumm.

We''re going to the Bodies Exhibit this weekend. We waited until the last moment as it closes Monday, but there are over 20 human cadavers in various stages of life on display. It''s supposed to be unbelievable. I''ve heard the body of the smoker, is most thought provoking and shows how black a smokers lung is. I know as a former smoker, it will be most interesting for me to see that. I''ve heard people walk up to the body, see the lung, take their cigs out of their pocket or purse and just leave them there. Hopefully, this exibit has actually helped people quit.

Anyway, I won''t have much to report tomorrow. We''ll work out all three days of the holiday weekend and get in a run or skate or two to boot.

Good night everyone.

2:30pm (CST) and I''m the ONLY ONE to post my daily workout today!!! Come on friends, we''ve got a holiday weekend ahead of us, attack those calories before they hit our stomachs!

This morning I walked in to work, 15 mins, and I''ll be biking home tonight (5 mins). Yesterday I celebrated 2 birthdays (a coworker and my younger brother), so I had 2 helpings of birthday cake - Yipes! Maybe I won''t be reaching my goal of 2 pounds lost this week! I''ll see if I have energy to squeeze in another walk after dinner tonight before I crack down to grading 48 quizzes and 48 homework assignments.

Well, maybe everyone worked so darn hard this week, they''re all napping! No workout for us today. We did hard enough. But, we''ll be back in the gym tomorrow, Sunday and Monday, big time.

Look''s like you''ll have to walk and ride a bit more to get over the birthday cake calories. In Mens Health and Fitness they always have a section showing how many calories are in something and how much pennance one would have to do to burn the calories away. They''ll say things like...........Venti Mocha Frappucino at Starbucks.........XXX Calories. And to overcome that, you can run up and the Empire State Building stairs, all 9 million stairs, like 12 times. LOL. It''s a wonder we all don''t weigh 10 tons.

I hope you did lose the 2 pounds you hoped to lose though. Have a great weekend...

i tried to post earlier but the thread kept locking me out...i could post everywhere else but this thread. so i saved the post at home but now i'm at work.

anyway the jist is that i went to class last nite and kickboxed. and i am going to the gym today to do my hill walking. hoping to burn 300ish calories. and that i am bummed that i wont have kbox til tuesday since they are closed today through monday, so i have to go to the gym for a few days in a row which i'm not super keen on. i was thinking of maybe doing lizzie's bootcamp workout at home tomorrow or something to get something other than just walking on the schedule for 3 days.

and greg's sister is coming to visit next thurs-sunday so it's going to be a foodgasm the whole time, so my next week is truncated for workouts as well. i'm just bummed that i feel like my 'groove' is all outta wack with the TTOTM this week, and holiday and visit next week where we will be eating up a storm. oh well! at least i'm still doing 4x-5x a week which is better than nada. and i will weigh myself today at the gym again so we'll see if the scale moved again. i hope it did!!

my eating this week was awesome due to the detox that we did...i managed to not eat any sweets all week which was GREAT. there was TWO birthdays at work, so i declined cupcakes/cake twice! which was a huge deal since yesterday was ice cream cake from baskin robbins in mint choco chip which i love! and my calories have been low all week thanks to meat and dairy not ratcheting things up. kinda interesting anyway.

have a fab weekend/day/holiday everyone....!!! and ROD we are eating sushi tonite too and i'm SO EXCITED!!!

Boy, Mara........that would be super hard to pass up. When I was a young teenager, my parents got this bright idea to open a Baskin Robbins and a Mr. Donut. Talk about having the ability to get fat. I would go to the donut shop, get a fresh glazed donut, walk across the street, pile on two scoops of Fudge Brownie (with the huge chunks of brownie''s in the ice cream), ladle hot fudge on top, with nuts, cherries and whipped cream!!!!!!!!!! This, I was allowed to do any time I wanted. It''s no wonder I waddled through my teen years and set myself up to be overweight for most of my adult life.

It''s good you have such will power. I hope you have the ability to push the foodgasm in the healthy side with Greg''s sister next week. Sorry about not having kick boxing. It is frustrating when you can''t do something you really look forward to. I know the gym''s not your favorite place, but hopefully, you''ll enjoy your gym time none-the-less.

Enjoy your Sushi tonight. I''m litterally counting the minutes till we go. And I guess we''re going to our second fav Sushi place as we have $60 in Nordstrom coupons burning a hole in our pocket and our 2nd fav reastaurant is right next to Nordstrom. This likely means it will be a 2 Sushi weekend as I know we won''t be able to skip our favorite Sushi restaurant the entire weekend.

Have a great one!!!

A non-workout Friday evening update. Had really great Sushi. That was the good part. But, those $60 certificates Nordstrom sent us this month (they send $20 for each $1k you charge or something like that), cost a bundle. First we wound up in the shoe department and we each bought two new pairs of shoes. Then, we each found 2 Nat Nast (think Charlie Sheen's character in Two and a Half Men on CBS) shirts over half price off. They were each $135 shirts marked down to $65. When we commented to our sales person that we never just spend the coupons Nordstrom sends, she commented that their research shows that for every $20 coupon they send out, the return is ten fold. In other words, people spend at least $200 with each coupon. That's a pretty good return on Nordstrom's minimal investment.

So, no more spending this weekend. We'll just eat healthy, work out hard and see a movie or two.

I probably won't be checking email much over the weekend. But, when I do, I hope to:

1. Have heard from Jeff and his first gym experience
2. Heard from Coda and learned she did well in her 13 mile run
3. Heard from Travelingal and learned she made pennance for the Micky D's Cheeseburger (if you were gonna cheat, you could have done so much better.........LOL)
4. Heard from Lorelei since she was rather mum today and know that we celebrate her 5 weeks without a cig. Right Lorelei??
5. Heard that Mara actually enjoyed her gym session and will now be going there more regularly. And if Mara does succumb to Cheeseburger heaven, find out she actually did it right, but since she's our resident gourmet, we can assume that to be the case anyway.......LOL
6. Heard from everyone I may not have mentioned that they enjoyed a fantastic, safe, healthy holiday weekend

Thank you all so much for the comaraderie on this fitness thread.

Rod our sushi was fabulous!! I'm stuffed!

I went to go to the gym earlier and realized that I had forgotten my iPod and there is no way I can do a gym workout without it, so I came home and looked up Lizzie's bootcamp workout and did that!! It was actually a really good workout, though I incorporated more cardio than it had because I just need way more cardio to feel like I'm REALLY doing it. I felt like maybe I didn't work out THAT hard but then I took Portia for a 3/4m walk and we went to dinner when Greg got home and after dinner I started to feel it in my butt and legs! So that's fab. I can't wait to be sore tomorrow.

Tomorrow I'm going to the gym then to do the hill program WITH iPod...hehee. Then I figure Sunday I can do a 3m walk with Portia and Greg can do his run. Then maybe take Monday off. We'll see...if the Gym is open on Monday I may go again. Addicted I tell ya! hehee. Tomorrow night we are also going to have burgers...our fave place has 1/2 price burger nites on Saturdays and the burgers are the BEST. We've turned tons of friends onto this place..we love it.

LOL Rod re: the Nordstrom shopping, I hear ya!!! No more spending for me this weekend either. hehee. Nat Nast shirts are pretty cool, you guys are mondo hip. Have a great weekend everyone!!! Lorelei where are you girlfriend?!?! Hope all is well.

I am still on a couple of pieces of gum a day but will be trying hard to get off it. So how do I feel? As if I have a cold coming at the moment - LOL!!! Seriously, it hasn't been as bad as I thought, much of the time I don't think about it, the main craving time is as I am finishing my evening meal, I get a craving kick in, but it soon goes. I realize all the more that I was an emotional smoker and having a crutch such as cigarettes doesn't help. I don't miss smoking as much as I thought, one of my biggest helps if I have a bad craving is to tell myself - I am a nicotine addict who is recovering. I am craving nicotine, and I don't need the chemicals and tar from cigarettes poisoning me any more. This is a sign of my body healing when I have cravings. Funny thing it works. So for anyone out there who might be reading this and wanting to quit smoking, I would say if I can do it anyone can, but the trick is to let go of smoking mentally. Once you can do that and look to the future as being smoke free, you are more likely to succeed. I am sure I will never smoke again.

Thanks so much for the encouragement everyone, especially Rod!

I would love to go to that exhibition with you Rod, I can imagine it is so fascinating. Is it the exhibit by that German guy or am I thinking of the wrong exhibition, where they encase the cadavers in plastic?

Look forward to hearing about your gym session Jeff!

Great job Mara - you are doing so well! This thread does really help get me motivated, if I have a case of the workout 'blahs' I just think of everyone else working hard in our different time zones and it gets my butt working!

I workout out yesterday with the usual, I am debating whether to go and do some more now, but I have a stiff shoulder so I will have to see...I have done 5 workouts this week I think.

And thanks for the encouragement. Unfortunately, I didn''t bike home last night after all; a very frustrating string of events (computers....) yesterday afternoon meant I sweet talked hubby into picking me up and taking me out for Chinese - yum! Today though I walked in to work and I will be biking home. Depending on how energetic I feel I''ll probably pop in a workout video too. I weighed myself this morning and I popped back up to 152.5 from 151.5 on Wed! Still, that''s a total of 1.5 pounds so far, and getting the scale down half a pound to reach my goal for the month shouldn''t be too hard by Monday morning.

Rod and Mara - I''m SOOOO jealous! I adore sushi, but hubby doesn''t like it (the seaweed) so I don''t get to eat it very often. And the prospect of sushi twice in one weekend is overwhelming - enjoy it for me Rod!

Lorelei - CONGRATULATIONS!!! And all of your mental "tricks" are absolutely true! You are simply craving the nicotine, not the cigarettes, and you are a recovering nicotine addict, well on your way to full recovery! Keep up the great work, we''re all rooting for you!

Thanks Hlmr and JC for the praise, I DO deserve it

My 45 minute workout today included using the equipment for: leg extensions, leg curls, chest press, shoulder press,
lateral pull downs, bicep curls, tricep press and ab crunches. a little treadmill work, too.
Feeling great...Tuesday session with my Brazilian Jujitsu instructor.

Keep on TRACKin

The exercises you mention are now sounding less foreign to me, as Hubby is using the same machines too as you. He has been doing weights now for about a month and is seeing results already. Watch out Arnie Swarzenegger

you have competition from my Hubby!

That sounds like a good routine you have there with the treadmill work too!

As I speak, Hubby is fitting the flooring to our little gym! I did my workout as usual this morning, it actually eased the shoulder a bit. I will have a break tomorrow.

That is an awesome achievement!!

go lorelei and jc and jeff!!! you guys sound like you are doing great. kudos jeff on getting started quite well it sounds like!!

i have a massage this afternoon so i figure i''ll go work out afterwards at the gym...what a nice way to tighten back up those muscles? hehee. anyway i sure can use the massage as my back is typically pretty tense, i apparently have a lot of muscle built up back there and i never really know quite the right exact ways to stretch it according to my massage therapist!! she is always showing me new stretches.

jc...i love sushi!! but only really good sushi. we have one favorite place we always go to, they make the most amazing rolls and have very fresh fish...i''m not a huge raw fish fan, but i do like raw tuna and the raw salmon/sake...it is so buttery and smooth. the rolls we get are YUM. my fave is raw tuna with avocado and cucumber rolled in white rice and then they use this ''wasabi cream'' which is basically a mix of wasabi and mayo and it''s so spicy and good and they put that in the rolls before rolling them, then put coconut on top of them. YUM. the coconut is awesome when mixed with the salty soy sauce, it''s such a treat for the taste buds. we also love plain spicy tuna rolls with cucumber and there''s this other one which is like a california roll but no avocado and it also has coconut on it. i like places that do a ton of rolls and in more unique ways than the typical california roll which gets boring after a while. greg typically gets the nigiri because he loves the raw fish!! and he eats the gross tamago, the cooked egg. blah!! something about egg in a rectangle format that just does not appeal to me.

but even if your man doesn''t love sushi, what about the teriyaki bento box kinda thing? that''s a great dish for someone who doesn''t love the raw fish or rolls. or udon soup, the noodle soup mixed with veggies etc is good too. i love tempura as well, classic!

KUDOS miss lorelei for your 5 weeks and you and hubby sound like you are just loving the new gym..how fun!!

have a great day everyone!!

Mara- The first time I tried sushi I helped make it with a friend who''d lived in Japan for 8 months. We made several kinds of veggie rolls and cooked salmon rolls, both of which were really tasty (all of us non-ethically-opposed vegetarians were gobbling up the salmon rolls, much to the omnivores'' chagrin, ha ha) but since I am veg, I stick to the relatively plain veggie rolls now. My faves of the moment are avocado and carrot, and like Greg I really like the tamago too! Have you tried it? I find it''s better with other ingredients, like avocado or cucumber. I also really like Inari, a sweet tofu pouch around a ball of rice. My mom and stepdad really like UNI!! Ewwwww! it looks so unappetizing, like baby boogers!

J just doesn''t like the taste of nori. If the nori is inside the rice then he''ll eat it. And Lincoln doesn''t have any just sushi bars, everything is a sushi bar within an Asian restaurant, so it works out pretty well for him. It was kind of funny a couple months ago, we were going to grab food to-go somewhere for dinner and a movie at home. His fave fast food place is Arby''s but I had a... bad experience. Right next door to Arby''s is a good little sushi restaurant, so he got Arby''s, I got my avocado rolls, and we were both happy!

Thanks for the kudos Jeff! I am a non smoker...

Our little gym is nearly done and it is looking good! No workout for me today as I have done quite a few in a row, also I realize it is the new elliptical which is hurting my shoulders and neck...I think it is working those areas more and I just need to adjust to it. That would be nice to have shapely shoulders....
25.gif

The sushi sounds interesting....I would rather have fish and chips myself

Anyone still up right now? Because I am. And forgive me, but this is going to be drunk-typing (I''m in California). Anywho, I found out something very interesting today. I went to the gym earlier today; ate a bowl of cereal and had a bit of turkey jerky beforehand. And before the gym, I spent about an hour pretty much speed walking around a mall looking for a pair of shoes (and worked up a sweat, how gross is that?). Well, I wasn''t hungry when i went to the gym, but after about 30 minutes on the treadclimber (Ithink that''s what''s it called), I started feeling super hungry and had to stop.

I tried stretching, but i was shaking from hunger. So I left the gym earlier than I intended and DEVOURED the half of an Odwalla bar I had sitting in my car. Oh, and girls, don''t you hate it when you forget your sports bra? I did, and couldn''t get my run in today. That was beyond annoying.

Wow, that took me 15minutes to type....Hope everyone has a good weekend!

hey guys and gals!!

well yesterday i went and got my massage, a new gal, my old one left which i am super bummed about, but this new girl gave me a good workout, my back and neck muscles are really sore today. i tend to have a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders and they always spend forever trying to work it out. anyway, afterwards i went to the gym, i made sure to drink water since i didn't want to have some weird averse body reaction to the massage then exertion but it went fine. i actually felt really energetic despite the fact that i had only had about 400 calories to eat til i went to work out. i thought i'd get super tired but i didn't. so i did my 45 minute workout on the treadmill on the hill program, burned 325 calories and walked 3.25 miles. came home and had a 1/2 a nectarine and a fuji apple to eat til we went to dinner which was BURGERS and fries and ranch and fried zucchini...yummy!!! i did feel kind of bloated and ick after i got home though, i guess my body was like WHAT is this! where's the veggies (zucchini counts right?). so then when we got home we went for a walk which ended up being 2.5 miles!! i was tired when we got home. and i was hungry around 1am when we went to bed so hopefully the burger was moving steadily through my system thanks to the walk! so i walked 5.75 miles today which is the most i have ever walked in a day i think.

and more good news!! i lost another 2 lbs! so i've lost 5 lbs total just this week. interesting huh. considering the detox i wonder if somehow that had something to do with it, jumpstarting it that is. OR maybe my body has just finished converting fat to muscle or something and now it's turning to the weight itself? anyway it will be interesting to see what the scale says when i go again next week...i am interested to see if it's up or down or still the same. my goal is 140, so 5 more lbs, though according to greg i am 'too skinny' and i am 'starting to look like a boy'...though i don't know how that is possible considering i still have a 36C chest. so not exactly talking a stick figure here greg!! boys are so silly. i definitely am thinner now at this point than i was when we got married which i was kind of using as a gauge since i was pretty fit and in shape then. but i guess that makes sense because i was only working out about 3x a week then, not 5-6x consistently.

funny, we were out walking and before we left i said i wanted a baskin robbins and greg got all up and down my case going 'is baskin robbins on the weight plan...did you just do all this work and detoxing for nothing etc'...which he was totally right about. not like he CARES if i eat the ice cream or not but he knows i'd regret it later, esp after our big burger dinner! so we went out for the walk without taking $$ with us...and then he started saying i had a boy shape when i was walking in front of him. so i said well who veto'd the baskin robbins visit?! he goes 'well come on lets go home and get the $$'...hahaha. it was hilarious, but i am GLAD we didn't go to BR as i definitely would have felt guilty...i DON'T want to totally undo all my hard work last week.

anyway, this morning we are having buckwheat pancakes which are YUMMY...i mixed in some cinammon as well to give them more flavor. they are high in protein and fiber. i like to have them sometimes instead of buttermilk, i get the freshly mixed bags at whole foods with all organic and non processed ingredients. my downfall is the butter, i only use real butter and i love butter on pancakes. but i tried not to go TOO crazy today...though i know i still use a lot. but oh well! don't want to turn into a boy right? hehee. plus we are housecleaning from top to bottom today so i figure i'll need the energy...also we don't have lunch on weekends typically so this has to last me a while...and also we only have the real butter in food probably about once a week or sometimes once every 2 weeks, since we don't eat much bread in the house and the pancakes is kind of an off thing. tomorrow we'll probably have a lox bagel for breakfast.

later today we are going for a walk/run (portia and i walk and greg runs) on this local park/trail...so it'll be 2m for me and about 6m running for greg. today is kind of an 'off' day which is fine, my muscles and body are pretty sore from my combined workouts and torture massage yesterday. anyway, have a great day everyone!!

cinderella, good to see you gal!! i don't know if i told you but i decided to keep the nike free shoes and have just worked on breaking them in. i think that i am too picky when they are brand new and unbroken. so far things are going well!

lorelei, i love fish and chips myself...but sometimes good sushi is yummy too. variety is the spice of life!

Jeff, glad to hear your gym workout was good. Now, you have to keep it up for it to become "habit!"

Mara, glad to hear you too enjoyed your sushi Friday night. The hamburger sounds good as well, but I just can''t bring myself to indulge in one just yet. Sounds like Greg put some guilt into your Baskin Robbins urge. Funny how we do those things.

We worked our really hard yesterday and today, but we did indulge last night. Had a good healthy salad for dinner with fresh baked turkey breast. But then went to Little Miss Sunshine (loved the movie) and had popcord (no butter). After the movie we walked to a coffee house and had coffee''s and shared a scone, but it just wasn''t satisfying and what we both really wanted was a piece of dark chocolate, SO......we then went to a chocolate shop and each had two breakaway pieces of dark chocolate. To serve pennance for our indiscretion, I did an extra 10 minutes (55 instead of 45) on the elliptical this afternoon.

JCJD, you''re doing great and I greatly enjoy reading your posts. Thanks for being a part of our little family here.

Lorelei, sorry never cared for fish and chips, but then I didn''t much care for sushi until recently, so perhaps I shoudl try them again.

Cinderella, you''re post was funny. Did we have some fun last night???????!!!!!!

We''re heading to the bodies exibit now. I don''t think they allow cameras, but I may take my cell phone which has a 1.3 megapixel and see if I can''t take a few and poste them.

Hope everyone''s enjoying a terrific weekend..........

rod if you really only ate 2 squares each of dark chocolate, that's not much to work off at all. we have these huge chocolate bars (specialty, we love funky dark chocolate, like one of them is a 'spicy' dark chocolate with cayenne etc) we got recently, and we sometimes have one or two squares, tiny squares for a treat. well the whole bar is 2.5 servings! who eats that much dark chocolate in one serving??! and 14g of fat. so the little tiny squares we eat, is maybe 1g of fat and like 30 calories or something. no biggie at all. so keep that in mind next time you pay penance!!

also i don't know about your local fresh burger place but this place also serves up turkey burgers instead of regular fare! which is much healthier. so you don't have to have regular meat yanno!! the fries however are not baked. hehee. i LOVE a good burger so i can never pass that up.

on a really funny note, i just spent 2 hours cleaning out my closet to get it ready for fall, reorganizing all my sweaters, taking them out of the dry cleaning bags when i got them cleaned in spring, and checking out all my pants and moving summer things to the back of the closet, getting rid of clothes and shoes, lining up new shoes, etc...i love doing that stuff in late summer! anyway, the closet looks fab but the other fab thing is that i found a few things that haven't fit me for years that now totally fit me. one of which is this skirt i got from jcrew that still had the tags on it from years ago, it's a mini skirt in like a dark cranberry and brownish tan soft wool boucle...it never really fit me right, well now it totally does AND i paired it with one of the new jcrew dream sweaters in a brown tan color and also pulled these awesome brown platform heel nine west shoes out of the closet that have a big round but close to the ground toe with a variegation in the leather, super cute, i bought them a few years ago and they are totally cute with the outfit!! so now i just need a pair of sheerish tights for fall and i have a new outfit! LOVE THAT. *and* my seven jeans which i haven't been able to wear in a while fit absolutely perfectly now. i put them on with the chunky heels i found and a tan sweater, SUPER CUTE look and they are 'straight jeans' basically, not flared or bootcut so i can keep them around for another year or two!

i also tried on my SENIOR PROM dress from high school, yes i still have it, and it FIT and was just a little snug, but rather i think i probably 'fill it out' better now than i did when i was 17! so WOW i am super happy!! hahhaa.

deleted...meant to post in other thread!

woops i was responding to MMM! i'm moving it.

Wow Mara, good job on fitting back into your old clothes! I don''t think I''m quite there yet, though. As for the shoes, I''m glad you decided to keep them, I''ve found that they really work out the leg muscles much better than the conventional running shoes; I can really feel the difference when I wear my old shoes. And I''ve been going crazy trying to find a pair in a color that I like. I finally gave up and just bought a pair of light blue/darker blue because every other color combo they had left was butt ugly on me. (I tried getting the pink/brown like yours, but none in my size were available.)

And Rod: I DID have some fun last night.
9.gif
Oh, and don''t even worry about that itty little bit of dark chocolate you ate. You could walk that off just by going around the block once.

Ok, so I''m back on this thread now because I went on a total food binge when my sister visited last week and gained 4 pounds. Everything''s fitting a little tighter now, and as my bf so eloquently put it: "You gained weight."
