) other jockeys, professionals told me do not drink any alcohol but champagne, they said brut is not fattening.
*making mental note*

Wow, so many people posting now! I have to try and keep up somehow. I think the Wednesday weigh in is a great idea but I think I will go find a tape measure tomorrow and start then. I''m too lazy to go find string and then measure it out on a regular ruler!
Anyway,
35.gif
to the new people on the thread. I am sort of on and off here, usually on more when I''m doing better and am trying hard to get back to a consistent routine. Tonight was my 2nd workout this week, 2 more to go! I just did tapes this week and will try to get to the gym Saturday for the 4th workout. I''m going to try the class at the gym again next week and see how my back/leg feels after. Is it a ridiculous theory to think that your body can adjust to the workout? I say this b/c I have a back injury from a couple years ago. When I went to this class a few weeks ago, my back and leg (which is where the pain was during my back injury time) started to hurt again. So I''m pretty sure it''s the class. But I wonder if my back can adjust to the class. The other part of me thinks that I should lose about 15 lbs and then try the class, when I''m in better shape. Not sure.
Food has been good this week. I''ve been trying to be very conscious about what I eat. For breakfast I had 2 eggs and a piece of wheat toast. I completely forgot about egg whites so I will do that next time. I actually eat eggs very rarely though so I figure it''s not too bad. Then for lunch, one chicken tamale from WF(I wish I knew the calories in those), a small salad and a couple strawberries, pineapple and mango slices. I think I will have another tamale for dinner and some more fruit.

See everyone tomorrow.

Champagne is made from wine grapes (two types of pinot and chardonnay) and has similar make up as drinking wine. A 4oz. glass of champagne contains about 96 calories (just like wine).
HI:

Ah, there's the rub.....

Oops I commited a nutritional crime today. I ate breakfast (lowfat yogurt and Kashi) around 10am, so I wasn't hungry for lunch until late. I went for a 1hr walk/run (I was miserable because I wore shorts) around 1:30. I got back around 2:30, stretched and showered. I started getting hungry around 3:30 when I got a call from Mt. Sinai about a job interview (!) asking for a full resume. So I spent the next hour and a half tweaking my resume, filling out an online form for the position, and then sending an email to the woman who wanted to interview me. So I didn't eat lunch.

My lunch was supposed to be Mara's tuna salad recipe and rice cakes. Instead I ate the tuna salad for dinner on a slice of whole wheat toast. This was around 6pm. I had a side of mesclun mix with balsamic vinagrette and some leftover shell pasta. I also had a glass of wine. I never skip meals, so I'm just mad that on the 2nd day of my spreadsheet, my calories are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay low. It doesn't make sense to eat junk now just to make my calorie quota, so I'll just have to leave it alone. And besides, I have lots of studying to make up for the time I lost fixing my resume.

Tybee!!! EEEeeek! I had a hamstring graft in 2003 and I've been so nervous about getting active again. Will you have time to see a doctor before the ski trip? I'm just worried because you say you haven't been running because of the knee (so you do have some pain right?) and skiing may only make it worse. I was skiing when I tore my ACL, and I have gone skiing since then, but only when I was problem/pain free. Please be super careful!!!

I'm excited to see so many people on this thread, including TravelingGal, because I was so impressed when I first read that the WWT help you hit your goal of getting into your beautiful wedding dress! You looked fantastic!

I wasn't too excited to post my measurements, but I guess I'll try it, in hopes that it will help motivate me. I'm going to use a ribbon and metal tape measure.

Height: 5'0"
weight: 107 lb
bust: 33"
frame: small and mostly flabby but my legs pack on muscle easily
hips: 34.5"
waist: 27"
low waist: 30"
upper arm: 10.5"
thighs: 20"

Oh, when I gain and lose weight, people notice it first in my face. Haha...I should do a face measurement. Not really.
38.gif
I don't think my stats will change in a week, or two weeks. So maybe in three weeks I'll "weigh in" again. I really have to study now!!! Good night everyone!!

Yeah crownjewel...we should all do cheek measurements! hehehe!

The reason I put the measurements is because I believe I will gain weight before losing. But inches (and clothes) don't lie. I have been doing more and more strength training with pilates/gyrotonics and muscles that have been lying dormant since I was about 5 are feeling it.

Thanks for the compliment on my wedding dress...I was happy to get into it. I really worked hard and stayed healthy for a few months and was able to do it. Sad thing is that in 2003, I was 15 pounds lighter than THAT! However I guestimate my ideal weight for realistic maintenance is at around 125 pounds. I had always been in the 140s in my 20s, but being in Europe changed my lifestyle and way of eating for a couple of years. I don't even remember dieting. It was too easy almost...I just stepping on the scale and it was another 5 pounds gone. Now it just seems like another 5 pounds on! But I fully admit I SLACKED from October through December.

Soups on, waiting for the hubby. It definitely has a kick! I like it, but for those of you who don't like spicy, just go easy on the jalapeno (make sure you seed it and take the white parts/membrane as that is the hot part). I breathed in the onions and peppers and my nose is still in pain and running.

I also added a can of diced tomatoes, drained, when I added the chicken to the soup. I would prefer to use fresh, but I hate tomatoes when they aren't in season and the canned does add a bit of flavor to it. The poached chicken is very tender (bring water to a simmer, add chicken breasts -2 - and simmer for 12 minutes. Turn off heat and leave in water for another 15. Don't forget to salt the water when you put the chicken in.)

Will serve with tiny bit of sharp cheddar, avocado and low fat sour cream. It should still be manageable dinner, calorie wise! You could also add corn if you wanted to when you add the chicken (or beans, or whatever!).

But of course there''s a rub, Sharon! It''s all about moderation.

So, can a guy play too??

Rod in October 2005:

5' 9.5"
42 inch waist
230+ pounds
34% Body Fat
Muscles: Non Existent
Smoker (a pack a day)
Could barely walk up a flight of steps
Blood Pressure High (won't even print it)
Cholesterol High (won't print that either)
Arms Flabby
Belly - Huge
Unable to do a simple squat

Rod in January 2007

Still 5' 9.5"
32 inch waist
171 pounds
15% Body Fat
Muscles: With heavy duty gym workouts 5 times a week, I have muscles but haven't measured them
Smoke Free Since October 2005 (YEAH)
Can run up many flights of stairs without getting winded
Blood Pressure: 118/57
Cholesterol: Last time it was checked it was below 200 for the first time in decades
Arms: Toned and way more powerful
Belly: Flat with hints of six pack
Able to do complex squats

It's absolutely incredible how one can completely change one's life with healthy eating and exercise!!

Went to the gym tonight. Even though I didn't leave the office until around 6, I still managed to do a 2.5 hour workout. I just burned up the elliptical. I'm not sure why, but I went further (nearly 9 miles) and burned over 700 calories in 45 minutes.

Couldn't handle the thought of another Lean Cuisine dinner so I went to the grocery store and made a nice salad with turkey strips and used my own home made salad dressing with Vegannaise and Ketchup. It was just yummy and then I had two pieces of Lindt Dark Chocolate and Fuji apple for desert.

We'll go to the gym again tomorrow night. Unlike some others, I am not a morning person and working out in the morning wouldn't work for me. As it is, I hate getting up at 7 AM to shower, have a healthy breakfast and take my daily supplements, so I can be at work before 8:30 (with a stop by Starbucks for a grande bold coffee on the way!). Doing 2.5 hour wokouts, I would not want to even try to get up that early to go to the gym before work. But more powe to those of you who can get up early and head to the gym before starting their day!

Lorelei: Glad to hear you're absence wasn't due to illness or anything. Sounds like you've had plenty of labor as exercise this week!

Enough for one night. Will check in tomorrow night. Thanks for all the kind thoughts about Sakai. She continues to amaze and delight us. She's just back to normal and we couldn't be more grateful.

Thanks,
Rod

pretty much the same as when I posted about this 2 weeks ago, but some differences (maybe I was bloated then??):

height: 5''8 or maybe 5''8.25"
weight: 145
bust: 34d
waist: 27.75 and 31 right below belly button
hips: 39.5
thighs: 22
arms: 10.5
frame: small
body fat %: my scale says 30% but I don''t believe it! I plan to get this tested by a more reliable source in the near future. haha

I made super-yum vegetable soup last night and I also have alot of fresh fruit that I''ve been munching on and this has almost inspired me to do the modified detox thing that I read about on the WWT a few months back. But I won''t start it now b/c need to get through this cycle of groceries 1st and plan better for it.

About tortilla soup: Last night I made this from some of the veg soup that I separated from the rest. I just added some of the seasoning from a spanish rice box mix to the veg soup and then added avacado and cilantro. no avacado or chicken like traditional tortilla soup, but it had that tortilla soup flavor. it was really good.

OK I''ll play too!
2007
height: 5 10
weight: 165
waist: 34
neck: 16
cholesteral and all tests were normal

gym 3x a week has improved arm/chest muscles
jujitsu has helped with mental alertness, agility, and dexterity of the joints
weight has been virtually the same for 2 years with only minor changes =/-
my 85 year old parents are pretty healthy, both drive, dad still works, mom walks a mile every day.

KEEP ON TRACKin

I will post all my stats next week...this is the last week of the maintain don''t gain program at work...so we''ll see what happened between Thanksgiving and now. Oh well I''ll go ahead and post what I know..

height: 5''5
weight: 125 (as of November before T-day)
body fat: 19% (as of November before T-day)
bust: 34C
natural waist: 27.5
low waist: 33.5
hips: 37.75
thigh: 21
arms: 10

I went to my Total Body Training class after work today....I was so tempted to go home and take a nap, but I toughed it out. That was my first major workout in 2.5 weeks and it was tough even though he went easy on us. But I know that Monday''s class he''ll go all out.

DH and I had a very healthy but simple dinner. Baked chicken breasts with salt and pepper, plus frozen mixed veggies that we cooked with some of the turkey broth I had made with the thanksgiving leftovers.

After reading about some of you giving up "adult beverages" for awhile, I''m so tempted to do that...but at the time I really want a margarita (or two) tomorrow when we go to Berryhill for dinner.

hi gang, wow everyone is doing so well! is it just me or do people''s measurements not really seem bad at all?? it''d be super helpful if along with listing measurements, everyone can say what their GOALS are...aka to tone up or build more muscle or lower body fat or lose weight. because it seems like some of you gals have perfectly fine measurements for your body height. but i can understand wanting to turn weight to muscle or similar etc. anyway just figured i''d throw that out there.

tg that tortilla soup sounds yum, i LOVE chicken tortilla soup. this restaurant near us makes the best version, i''m sure it''s not low fat but it''s got chicken and broth and it has avocado and strips of tortilla etc. love it. i will have to check out your recipe tg!! i am totally not into spicy...hehe so i may just leave out the jalapeno entirely.

CJ don''t be too hard on yourself for having low cals, i do that sometimes...especially when i am at home one day and my schedule is outta wack. i actually don''t mind having a low day here or there esp if i know that the next day or day after we are going to go out or something and i will probably go over my daily allotment. and if you feel like you need a boost or didn''t get enough, eat fruit or if you have fiber cereal or something...even a glass of milk might be beneficial. just don''t go hungry.

rod i cracked up at your old description of yourself, ''belly-huge''...lol..it''s great you have come so far, you are the ultimate inspiration!! has charlie always been in good shape or is he just in better shape the last year by tagging along?

so today i had my chicken soup with rice and also had a bunch of grapes because i was craving fruit. then i made the 100 cal popcorn bag and we put some lemon chile powder on it. okay BAD BAD IDEA. both my coworker and i were hacking, coughing, choking...that''s definitely not for us. so i tossed 3/4 of the bag. and made the regular one i had yesterday...the calories i am unsure of because the bag and description are so confusing but according to what i THINK it is...it''s something like a 160 cal bag...i had about 3.5 cups of it..so about 130 cals. i don''t really care about the 100 to 130 cals...i just want to be sure i''m not consuming 400 cals or something. i wish the popcorn bags were not so confusing!! they list popped vs unpopped but it''s in a super confusing way. three websites i found said the whole bag was 130 which correlate my calcs from the bag, but another one said it was like 400! i figure that one is the anomaly. lol.

anyway, the regular one i ate was way tastier than the 100 cals. hahaha. so then i had a red vine twist (love those things!!). so i guess the afternoon wasn''t bad since i had grapes, popcorn and a red vine but i felt totally bloated and like i overate!! its TTOTM so i''m sure it''s just mental but man i was feeling icky. tonite we were scheduled to have a chicken pot pie, marie calendars, totally not healthy but we splurge and have them like once a month. i was hemming and hawing over making them because i thought i don''t want to eat anything unhealthy for me tonite. but i also didn''t feel like going to the store and getting stuff for dinner tonite either. i actually wouldn''t have minded a big bowl of cereal...but even with the chicken pot pie, my calorie intake today is still under my minimum according to SP. so i figured whatever...i came home, took P for a 25 minutes very brisk walk and then made the pies. my dessert i''m still thinking about, it could be ice cream or a jello pudding cup with whipped cream.

i''m also going to do some ab work before bed...which i have added into my routine the last 3 weeks...i do about 10 minutes 3x a week before bed...just a series of situps and crunches and bicycle exercises. i totally have noticed a difference in my abs as well...because my belly is FLAT now...and so i''m actually gaining some definition now that there''s not fat on the belly. kinda fun...the situps BURN of course but it''s a good burn.

tomorrow it''s back to the gym!! have a great night everyone. and keep up the GREAT WORK!!!

miss apple, did you know that a regular margarita packs about 450 cals and something like a flavored or strawberry can pack up to 850? hee hee i know i am a buzzkill but let me tell you girl...after i learned that, i cut out my 2 guava margaritas i used to have all the time at our fave mexi restaurant, we would go every 2 weeks and i'd get 2. that's like one whole day of cals, yikes!!

and interesting...checking out your measurements and stats, we have really similar measurements on waist, hips, bust (but i'm more like a 36B) and yet i have SEEN you girl and you are tiny!!! i totally don't think of myself as that tiny. and look your weight is way less than mine. it's so interesting because i think you have a small frame, and i am definitely medium. i have wide shoulders, long arms, long legs, curvy hip bones. i can't get too thin because the way my body is, i'd start to look kinda 'weird' and bony...because of my bigger bone structure.

anyway i'm rambling here, lol...but i just thought it was interesting that you are shorter than me, yet have similar measurements almost spot on, and yet you are TINY!!! or you were in may and i seriously doubt you changed at all.

and now i am wondering if my arms are less than 12. i better go see. i was estimating from my memory since i was at work but now im like hmmm!

Thanks Mara. Actually, Charlie''s always been lean, but he didn''t smoke or eat badly. Working out has allowed him to develop muscles he didn''t know existed and he''s in terrific shape. The funny thing is people mostly notice me and the huge changes I''ve made. After all, I used to wear XL size and Charlie always wore M or S. Now I wear his shirts!!

Mara I've seen you and I know you are smaller now than when I saw you. You can classify as tiny now.
2.gif

And Rod...your stats are just awesome!
36.gif

I plan on posting weekly stats, although it won't be that exciting. I guess the idea is to see that a little bit makes a big difference over time. I can post the percentage lost too...always nice to see that.

As for the tortilla soup, I wouldn't omit the jalapeno because it gives it the flavor. Once I squeezed in the lime and added a very small dollop of low fat sour cream, it mellowed out the soup considerably. TGuy liked it. I've definitely had better tortilla soup than this, but it was probably a lot more sinful too. This seems pretty healthy if you can go easily on the olive oil. One TB was OK for all the onions and peppers, but I did add a bit more. I added a bit of sharp cheddar cheese as a garnish, but it was so little that I think I'd do without as I wouldn't miss it. I would DEFINITELY add those tomatoes...or something else, otherwise it's just a lot of chicken in broth. Avocados add a lot of calories but oh how I love them!

Grapes! I love frozen grapes. I have about 1g0g (seems like about a cup) and it takes me a while to eat it and they taste like sorbet. Costco has big tubs of small red grapes that I use. Make sure they are sweet...sour frozen grapes are too face puckering for me.

And ditto on the margaritas...I have not had one in ages...they are so packed with calories and tequila is the only spirit that can easily give me a bad hangover. Maybe you can just have wine appletini? Or join me in my masochistic no booze January?
9.gif

Goals: weight loss to be about 125. Lose body fat. build more muscle. I guess that would be all of the above!!!
1.gif

By the way, I would highly recommend to anyone an electronic kitchen scale. It makes really seeing how much you are eating so much easier. Back when I was eating healthy before my wedding, I weighed/measured everything...helps you not to cheat!!

I went back and did the math on the soup and added the calories next to the ingredients of the recipe. With the addition of the tomatoes and padding for anything I may have been off on, I estimate the soup is 1000 calories for about 6 cups worth of soup. That is 166 calories a cup, plus whatever fixings you add. Not too bad...

TGal, I''ve been throwing around the idea of buying a kitchen scale. What kind do you have, and do you like it?

I''m really impressed by those of you who posted your before and after measurements!! ROD! Wow...congrats on quitting smoking and getting so FIT!

My goals are to lose a little from each area (even if it''s 1/4"), just so my clothes fit better. As a student, I need to fit in my current wardrobe for as long as possible, and right now...they''re getting kinda tight! Before my ACL tear, I used to be pretty strong and mostly muscle. Right now, I''m not sure if any of that muscle is left :) I''d like to be around 102, a little slimmer and A LOT more toned.

I have the Salter Glass Electronic Scale. I am an Alton Brown fan (I love dorks) and I think this was one of the one he recommends. I love it. You can buy it at linens n things or other domestic good stores...

Wow… practically everyone posted their measurements! I’ll do mine too tomorrow when I find or buy a tape measure. I’m not sure if I have one lying around right now. I’m looking down at my belly/mid-section and I feel depressed already. RAR!!! I wear a size 5, but I can already start to feel that I may need to go up a size if I don’t get with the program. I’m know size 5 isn’t really that large of a size, BUT I feel flabby everywhere. And everything jiggles. I have rolls hanging over my pants when I sit down and the love handles are definitely out there. Hahaha…. Does not sound attractive at all.

As far as drinking goes… I like to drink. But normally will just stick with a glass of white or red wine on occasion when dining out. If I’m out at night to have some fun I usually order chilled vodka shots. I know a lot of calories are in mixed drinks and cocktails so I stay away from that.

So I’m still doing badly with my eating which I think mainly is from not being prepared when I get hungry. Which in turn I start craving greasy carby stuff. I’m not sure when I can get myself to the market cause when I got off work today it was already 9 p.m. I just didn’t have the drive to get myself to the market and look for food. So I headed home, washed up, and here I am. Oh, didn’t go to the gym today either. Bah!

I really admire all of you who are keeping up with eating right and doing some type of exercise everyday. Believe me, I know how much discipline it takes. But then again, that’s what separates the people who succeed and the ones who don’t huh?

Okay, going to get myself to bed now and tomorrow will be a new day for me to start over. Hopefully I’ll be one of the ones that succeed soon~!

Nite nite~

I don't know what my measurements were and are, but I have lost fat fairly evenly all over. The biggest changes I have noticed are around my hips and abs, even though I can't do crunches because of my back, the treadmill and ellip has seemed to tone those areas as well as fat burn. My legs are now firm and toned and small which I like, however my legs have never really been a problem. I have firm curves now and I look ' wiry' according to Hubby who likes me that way! My upper arms are now muscular too and I am achieving the toned look I want, but they feel rock solid which is far better than flabby with bingo wings!
6.gif
So for 6 months I feel I have had excellent results. It used to make me wonder though, when I used to get up so early and go with Hubby to the gym back in the summer, those people who would put no effort into their workouts - results will be a long time coming for them. There was one lady who seemed to go so slow on the treadmill and her apathy was overwhelming. I often wonder if she is there now doing her daily 10 mins at 2.5 mph....
24.gif

Anyway, I had a great workout yesterday, Mara you have inspired me to do the same amount on the elliptical as the treadmill now, I am aiming for 30 mins on each - you have to love that super duper calorie burn on the ellip, it seems like far more than the treadmill. I was reading once that the treadmill was the best calorie burner, but it doesn't seem to be the case if the machines are near accurate..

CJ - I am super blessed to have 3 precious equines in my life, they really do bring joy to it!
Ha Rod - that was hilarious Belly - Huge!!!

Great job everyone!

ETA - Sevens you have succeeded already! It all happened for me once I looked upon it as a lifestyle change and knowing that taking care of my body was now a forever thing and that you don't have to be perfect to succeed, but every small thing you do to take care of yourself adds up to big changes over time. By joining this thread you have achieved success as you are doing a good thing for yourself. It makes me feel less alone with my regime to know that my friends on the other side of the pond are all working at it too, and we can share each step of the path of fitness and health, you will always find a helping hand here to keep you going!

Remember folks - TOWARDS THE REWARD!!!!!!

Well, I''m still keeping up with the workouts, but not losing the weight. I definitely have to cut back on the food intake. I''d like to post my measurements, but I''m at work right now, so I''ll post them later today or tomorrow. I''m still only doing 30 minutes on the treadmill because it bores me so much that I can''t bear to do any longer than that. At least the hubby''s exercising with me now, and it makes it a little easier to do when someone''s doing it with me.

I''ll be in Hawaii next week for 2 and a half weeks, and I look forward to running outside there. I think I''ll actually exercise better on vacation than I''m doing at home right now.

Keep up the good work, everyone!

Enjoy that winter sunshine Coda, I am so jealous!!!!

Mara,

When I read your measurements I thought to myself "we''re the same size!". The only difference is that you are taller than me, but when I saw you in May you looked so good and well porpotioned. TINY is DHs favorite nickname for me (he comes up with new ones all the time...very cute). Although my belly doesn''t feel tiny, but it has improved since I started working out in October.

And the margarita calories! That is so scary! I usally just get regular marg''s on the rocks, expecpt for one place that has really yummy frozen mango margs, and another place I get regular frozen b/c their rocks are too strong. Maybe I won''t have a margarita at all tonight...especially since Berryhill is more like a casual takout place (but their mexican food is Baja style so its not as bad as Tex-Mex), and since its not a real date or an outing with friends.

My Fitness goals: to get toned and get a flat tummy! I''m not trying to change my clothing size (although a 2/4 has started to become more of a 4, but that also varies depending on the designer). I would like to see my body fat go down a few points. 4 years ago I had a personal trainer for three months and she really whipped me into shape...during that time I went from 22% to 16% body fat, so I''d like to get back to that 16%ish, but I know I''m going to have to work a lot harder.

The girl across from me at work used to be a Houston Rockets power dancer and she is so itty bitty. Not an ounce of fat on her and the cutest figure.

Wow, this is so motivational! I got all wrapped up in other things last night and didn''t have a chance to take measurements but I''ll see what the tape measure has to say and then decide if I''m willing to "go public," LOL.

I have lost 2.5 lbs since I started posting though (I do know it''s more about the clothes than the pounds) and I feel good enough to go back to the gym tonight--although I''m going to take it a little easier. Maybe 30 minutes on the eliptical and 30 on the treadmill? Will have to see how it all pans out once I get there. Last night I did some leg lifts, sit up, push ups, and free weight arm things. I couldn''t belive how hard some of it was! I must be a lot more out of shape than I thought...

I''m having left over whole wheat pasta with the lean beef and tomato sauce from last night for breakfast (I LOVE leftovers for breakfast!) and I have a bunch of fruit stockpiled for the rest of the day, so I guess I''m eating kind of "upside down" by having my lunch first. I also decided to skip my decaf with whole milk this morning because coffee with pasta sounded gross to me, so I''m saving all those milk calories and fat too.

Talk to everyone later!

hi gang, wow everyone is doing so well! is it just me or do people''s measurements not really seem bad at all??

That''s what I was thinking. I''m SO not putting mine on a public board!

When you ladies and gents measure your waist, where are you measuring? Someone classified "low waist" as directly beneath the belly button and I measured that as my natural waist.

Hi everyoen!

Yesterday I finally got to the gym!. I tried going on Tuesday and all classes had been cancelled!....I can't stand doing machines, so I thought I would start Wednesday instead!. It's amazing what a couple of weeks without exercise can do to you! (even though I did at least 6 good hikes while I was in Costa Rica!). Yesterday I felt like a newbie and could definitely feel I had lost some "fitness" over the Holidays!.

But I'm back on!.

Today we weighed in at work. We're doing this every Thursday. I have my mesarurements, but they're in cms so they won't say much to you guys...hehe...I'll have to take them in inches and get back to post them!.

So all I know is my hieght and weight for now:

Height 5'5'
Weight 126

I want to get my % fat measured...I'm going to ask about it at the gym.

Great job everyone!!

ETA: 2-3 years ago my weight was about 10 lbs more. After I got my dog I lost those 10 lbs and have kep my weight constant ever since. Now I feel like I'm getting smaller (in terms of measurement), but the weight stays the same...I guess that's good though!. I still have some fat that I need to get rid (by exercising!)....mostly in the "lower" area...hehe. I'm small on top...little waist, small bust, little arms (don't like them! but started to tone them and they look better now)...BUT big hips, can't deny I'm latin!

ETA Also: I'm doing great with the no smoking!!

. Back in college I used to smoke a LOT. Then I quit, then I went back...off and on. Now I was smoking a couple a day. I know, pretty stupid!...so I quit

Mandarine - keep going with the non smoking!!! I did it and posted about it on this thread almost 6 months ago, everyone was so encouraging and especially Rod who had also successfully quit! Stick with it, it does get easier - if I can do it anyone can!

hey sumbride, even if you don''t post your measurements, you could keep track of them just to chart your progress. I''m guessing it''ll be motivational to see the numbers shrink a little.

Kim, I measured my waist as the smallest part of my torso (where my sides curve in). It''s a few inches above my belly button. Then I also measured my low waist as where the waist of my pants usually hit. This is a few inches below my belly button. As for all the other measurements, I just measured at the fullest part of the arm, thigh, butt, etc.

Even though I mostly walked my 4 mile loop yesterday in Central Park, I am SORE today! I guess it was because it was windy and 45 degrees and I had to work extra hard.

TGal, it looks like Salter makes lots of kitchen scales, in all ranges. I''m thinking of buying one from Crate and Barrel for $30. Bed Bath & Beyond has a glass Salter scale for $40. I think the difference is in the weight range...the more expensive one goes up to 11 pounds. I don''t think I''ll ever cook with anything over 2 pounds. What do you think?

I''m going to do my at home circuit training today: squats, pushups, dumbells, situps. I had yogurt and Kashi for breakfast, lunch will be leftover tuna salad (yummy by the way, Mara! Thank you for that recipe). Dinner will be grilled chicken breast, shredded mozzarella cheese and balsamic vinegar with some kind of salad.

What''s really interesting is seeing people my same height, 5''5", and their weight. A lot of variance, and yet, no one is at their ideal wight. Body structure definitely has something to do with it, and how you carry your weight. My sis and I are the same height, yet when we weighed the same, she definitely looked heavier. I am lucky in that respect, most people guess me at 20 lbs. lighter! But that doesn''t make ME feel good, I still know I''m too heavy for my own comfort level.

But age definitely plays a part too. When I graduated highschool, I weighed 118. I was really slender. Now, at 47, I would look anorexic at that weight, bordering on dead, or anything even remotely close. And other people have mentioned the same thing.

Thank goodness age is good for something.
