We asked for ASET or ideal scope images. Jeweler says he’s never heard of it.

Too bad folks have no way of knowing that the AGS addendum would be added to the GIA grading report if it qualified for same.

Yep - it is an absolute shame. GIA needs to step up...and now.

The jeweler said he already purchased the stone.

So did the jeweler bring in a few stones for you to see, you picked this one, and he then purchased it for you? Does he have other stones in his inventory? I'm thinking that if he purchased this on your commitment to buy, he's not going to let you exchange it, unless there is something already in his inventory that you could trade for.

Actually it's the opposite .... Sounds more like he loved the GIA report 4 C's specs more than the light performance of the stone.... Ideally you start with the Cut / Light performance and then try to find best balance of Size, Color Clarity for the budget....

Oh sorry - totally misread that! I fell into the same trap - put down a deposit on a stone that looked great in the store - but as I was leaving a grabbed my phone and snapped a pic - the jeweler said “oh diamonds never photograph well on iPhones” - and as soon as we got home I cancelled the deposit - and found Pricescope that night or the next. The stone was so mushy and when I looked back on the numbers…. No wonder! That picture saved me from a lifetime of regret!

I’m really tired of diamond dealers who trap customers like this. Not returns?? 10k deposit and no refunds? Shady AF. And I suspect illegal on some level.

That’s crazy high!

With those proportions - if you really can't switch the stone - you're going to want to get as much light to that pavilion as possible. Four prongs, set the stone as high as your intended is comfy with, no gallery details. Frequent scrubbing - keeping it clean will be even more important. Make sure the jeweller polishes the interior of the head to a high shine before mounting the stone. Consider rhodium plating the interior if not white metal (might be difficult to do with an open setting style).

I followed this advice and also asked if the jeweler polished the stone before mounting it and he said only way a diamond can be polished is if recut? He’s killing me lol

Not the stone - make sure he polishes the inside of the mount (gets the metal that's facing the stone all nice and shiny) ::)

That will help get as much light into the bottom of the stone as possible!
