I’m trying to decide if I should reset mine, try to get a bigger stone, or just leave it alone. I originally had a .94 ct solitaire and a few years ago I reset it into a halo which did help it look a little more impressive. But, I’m not in love with the round halo and the bands are SO THIN that I feel like I can’t stack anything with them which I would like to do. Also, it sits really low which makes stacking hard also. I’m torn about whether to go back to a solitaire with my diamond, get a different halo, or try to get a slightly larger diamond. My fingers are really long, size 6.5. I’m not super fancy and I don’t wear much jewelry, but I do love a nice ring. What would you do??

Also, I prefer the look of a round diamond in a cushion halo rather than the round halo, but I’m also worried about halos looking dated in the future (although I do love them when they’re done right).

I think we'll get to the stage where halo's will have had their day. An elegant solitaire, however, never goes out of style. I'd re-set with a larger stone. It's less fussy and much cleaner looking - ergo easier on the eye. I'd be thinking something in the 1.5ct range. Larger, obviously, if you can afford it! :)

That’s what I’d like to be able to do! I just feel kind of guilty spending the money to upgrade! So if I can’t upgrade, should the .94 go to a solitaire?

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate an anniversary than with an upgrade! I love solitaires so 1.5+ carat stone sounds good to me. You have a very thoughtful husband.

Where did you buy it and does that company have an upgrade policy?

What are we dealing with here?

What do you know about your current center stone? Does it have a Gia certificate? What are it’s details?

If the option is viable, larger stone would be the best use of the money IMO.
I love a classic solitaire setting with a beautiful center diamond. It will never go out of style!

20th anniversary! Congratulations! Mine is coming up soonish which is how I found Pricescope (thinking about changing up my rings as well). Are you sentimentally attached to this particular stone or would you feel okay about upgrading to a different stone? I think a solitaire would be beautiful. The older I get the more simple my taste gets. I think a solitaire is quite versatile for stacking.

This stone is sentimental to me as it was passed down to me from my dad who has since passed away. I would likely make it into a necklace if I chose to upgrade. I just know going to 1.5 is going to be pretty pricey!

Maybe another option from upgrading 50% (significant to me) is to get a similar sized diamond in an OEC or Transitional cut? If I ever was to get a new diamond (probably not because I can't lay off the colored stones:lol:) I would get me an amazing Transitional to rock!

I wonder if it might be worth your while to purchase a few rings from Berricle (including both a 1ct solitaire ring and a 1.25-1.5ct solitaire ring and a stacking band or two, and perhaps a few other styles), just to see if you can narrow down exactly what you want? Berricle has a 30-day return policy which includes a free return shipping label. This way you can try some bands with a 1 carat ring and with a larger carat solitaire - maybe you don't need a larger diamond just a different setting that better accommodates various bands, or maybe you really do prefer a larger size solitaire (or a cushion halo) on your finger... fyi, Berricle has a 30% off sale going on today.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

A well cut 1.25 - 1.5ct solitaire ring. ;))

I dunno, you might miss the hand presence of the halo if you reset your current stone into a solitaire. Then again, maybe not lol. I think I would though. Maybe shoot for a 1.25? That would be a nice upgrade. I like the idea of getting some sims so you can see for yourself.

I do recommend this!! I have gotten a one carat solitaire in a cz MRB and OEC and have been getting used to the size and stacking options. It has helped me get a feel for what I like. Trying different sizes is a great idea if it is in your budget. I haven’t tried Berricle yet, but it seems like a great option!

Your diamond is beautiful! It is very special that your dad gave it to you. If you decide to use a different stone I think a necklace or even a right hand ring would be a great idea. I guess for a 1.5 you could price different vendors/color/clarity and think about if you feel comfortable spending the money that way. I struggle with that personally.
