Might she reset ?

We were talking about it but her hubby is a bit more sentimental and doesn’t want to have it reset since his mother picked out the setting. He would rather just buy an entirely new diamond ring

I remember you saying hers is a lot more ctw but TBH because of the spread of that mq and the completely different shape you wouldn’t know by looking. And both are beautiful in their own right but yours is clearly the stand out there.

What a lovely way to remember their mother. I bet she was a lovely woman.

Oh darn that diamond would be killer in the halo @msop just had dk make.

Maybe he’d let her keep the setting and put a colored stone in it?

Nope, no changes at all to it. I’m very happy my DH didn’t feel that way. But her hubs saw how much nicer my stone looks after the reset so she may be able to use that against his way of thinking

We were talking about it but ...

In any case, I doubt that the RBC might take YG backing as spectacularly as your marqise has

That’s tough because I get his sentimentality but also I hate to see someone receive a gift and then be told how they can enjoy it.

No it wouldn’t, her’s is probably an K-M color but I think she is wants something plainer and lower set.

@KKJohnson I love your ring even more every time I see it! Your SILs diamond is also beautiful and I can see how the setting was modern for its time, but I do find it a bit unfair of her husband to prevent her from resetting it. She seems to have long fingers and a nice low set solitaire will bring her beautiful diamond to a whole other level and she will probably be able to enjoy it even more. A strategy for her may be to stop wearing the ring and indicate to her husband that it’s current setting is not comfortable for her. This accidentally happened with me and my old temp setting. The shank edge was sharp and I gradually stopped wearing it as much which prompted my husband to even suggest a reset! Regardless, I hope you continue to enjoy your ring! Looking forward to seeing what you decide to do with he remaining melee diamonds:)

I'm surprised that the stone didn't grade as a fancy yellow because it's so vibrant! I love it!

Your set has made me fall in love with the marquise shape, I always find myself admiring your rings whenever I see your name show up on any threads. This set/style will be on my wish list in the future when I get around to making a 2nd ER.

Hi! Can't get enough of your AMAZING RING, so I've been reading your threads AGAIN (followed them from the beginning!!) but I don't see anything that discusses how you went from choosing shields for the side stones, to trapezoids! Did I miss something? What prompted the change (which turned out to be the most fantastic combination with your marquise!!) and would you please share the size and the specs of the trapezoids you selected? I know you said they are I-color and .62 but is that per side or is that total ct. weight of the traps and do you know their dimensions? The proportion with your center stone is so perfect!!! And how did you decide upon the squared off shank (as opposed to a rounded shank)?
Your ring is one of the nicest I've ever seen and viewing it from all angles in your fantastic photos has been an absolute delight to read about and enjoy!!! It's PERFECTION!!! Thank you!!!

Lordy I just saw this comment! I’m sorry. The side stones changed really just based on the inventory he had available to him and how the proportions looked. I am already considering my next upgrade in 5 years which most likely will be larger traps (maybe a 5 stone as opposed to 3). The total carat weight for the traps is .62 but I feel like they have really good spread and do seem larger. As for the shank I did a lot of online searches for 3 stone rings and found one design that worked well, I also feel that the square shank gives it a more modern look. Last but not least this community helped lead me in the right direction for the overall look, I was so set on matching the warmth of the middle stone that I had not even considered the white traps.

This is an inherited piece left to my husband by his mother that was stuck in that 70/80s gaudy fabulous era. My husband and myself prefer simple and clean so with the help of David Klass and his amazing team he turned my gaudy girl into classy lady.

GIA graded 4.67 carat O/P color eye clean SI1 with .62 stepcut tapered trapezoids. Set in platinum with 18k yellow gold cup to help minimize my stones unique “eye” appearance. The original settings melee was recycled into a full 1.42 carat U prong eternity platinum band.

I wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to the PS community in giving me feedback and helping me literally every step of the way in making my vision come to life. The community was so gracious in donating their time and knowledge in helping me and it is so very much appreciated.

P.S. hand pics coming soon! And do check out David’s IG for the videos. He just sent me updated versions and they are superb.

@pearaffair I didn’t want to hijack your thread so I posted more photos here. Outside shade is my favorite color

This center is typically where the cleaning hole is placed but we did it 2 on each side of the cup

I have circled one of the cleaning holes, on mine you can see it only if you angle the ring just right. He placed them right under where the traps meet.

AWESOME pics!!! Thank you so so much! I’m in love with your ring all over again. Wow. And that baby hand shot... omg. Cuteness overload!!!!!!!

I love your ring sooo much :)
Well done, you!

Remind me, what is the colour of the stone? W-X or something like that? It looks so vibrantly yellow in the pics! And the cleaning holes are SO subtle. Thanks for circling!

Thank you! I still can’t get over how the family thought this was a subpar diamond :wall: this community helped bring out the beauty I saw trapped in a gaudy setting

Cup and prong are 18k

So gorgeous!!!!!

In pics, I love the melee you have around the basket. In real life, is this a detail you appreciate?

I actually love the hidden halo, when wearing it you can’t really see it but sometimes you do. When people ask to see it and they notice the halo they are kinda wowed by it and love that little detail. I knew that I wanted some extra bling so it was a must (it was either hidden halo or bling the entire cup)

Also I just pulled up the old appraisal report, the original setting was 14k yg which made the diamond look kinda greenish to me. I would definitely recommend going 18k yg.
