At long last...
Here''s where it all started: sapphire in a fishtail mounting
The details:
Setting is the "Triple Victory" ring from Cross Jewelers, in Portland, Maine. It''s a WWII era (hence the name) ring that was designed to be sturdy and low profile, but pretty. I like to think of it as the ring Rosie the Riveter would have worn. It''s 90/10 plat/irid, and is die-struck. The mounting is manufactured by Jabel, and set, engraved (I think) and finished by Cross. My ring size is 8.75. I''m no delicate flower, but hey, neither was Rosie
! I love the engraving and milgrain, and the way the shank tapers down. It''s about 4mm at the widest.
The sapphire is a .97ct (6x6mm) VS1 unheated Ceylon, from the Natural Sapphire Company. It''s a gorgeous slightly violet blue. We were a little worried about it, because it has a bit of color zoning, but the setting really plays that down. It looks great with the triple prongs.
The diamonds are .26 ideal cut I SI1, and sparkle like mad. Cross provided them. They are very white, to my eye. No idea on fluor, but I''m planning to check it out under a UV source at work, and to see if I can find the inclusions under one of our microscopes.
I''m thrilled with this ring, especially since the only part of it I ever saw in person was the sapphire. I picked it out from a magazine ad, and we did all the ordering long distance. I''ll be on the East Coast in June and July, and plan to actually go meet the jeweler for the first time then. And hopefully, find a matching wedding band!
Now for a few pics. The first ones are from my old, low res digital camera. I''ll be getting some vastly better ones taken by my friend, soon.
