I am a little confused for those that have the Vera Wang setting. I have contacted several jewelers and was told that they are not able to set an already purchased diamond in her setting. They said that I would need to buy the setting and the stone together. They only sell 1 carat or a 5 carat.

Does anyone know anything about this? I am really interested in her setting but I would rather buy my own stone and have it set in her setting.

Thoughts?

I have not dealt with Vera Wang but many of the high end jewelers will not sell just the semimount. Tiffany and Cartier will not. I can imagine that VW might be the same way.

I can understand that. I called places that actually sell the ring (BB&B, etc) and that''s what they said. But I think I saw someone on here with a VW setting that said her fiancee bought the diamond seperately and had it set?

I think someone (albiocca?) got it separately from Michael C Fina in new york, but I could be making that up....

Albi is out of town, and won't be back until next week, I can email her and ask for you, but I can't promise to hear from her. And I do believe it was Michael C. Fina where he got the stone and setting.

ETA: Now I think he only got the SETTING at Michael C. Fina! I hope to hear from her, but she doesn't get internet access there...

That would be great if someone could find out. I guess my "problem" is that we were planning to get around a 1.8 carat radiant diamond and then have it set. But from what I understood you can''t do that -- which makes me frustrated because I like this setting. I also like the Michael B setting but I think I''m starting to like this one more.

Which Vera Wang setting are you talking about? Is it #7 under her Bridal Jewelry Collection on her website?

Vera only permits certain VW settings to be set with an outside stone. Most of her settings are "fixed", e.g., the stone comes with the setting. I believe the only setting I know of which Vera permits an outside diamond to be set is a solitaire setting. Every other VW setting I''ve come across is a fixed setting.

~~It''s in one of her posts somewhere...I read that she got them separately as well...

~~Here is the thread where albi confirms that her stone and setting were purchased separately...

Vera Wang

Hi all,

My boyfriend bought the Vera Wang solitare four prong setting from a jewlery store in Austin, Texas. He purchased the diamond seperately (also from the same store) and they sent it out to be set (to Vera Wang). It takes about 5-6 weeks for the whole process. We are waiting to get it back but he had no problem purchasing the two seperate. the name of the store is Calvin''s...it also carried Micheal B. and the rest of the Vera Wang semi precious stone line. Hope this helps~

I''m sooo excited I can''t even tell you! My boyfriend looked for the perfect setting for a looong time. I''ve seen the stone and its beautiful especially when I know how long it took him tofind it, I can''t wait to see them together. From what I recall its a 1.86, Round, H, VS1. My boyfriend was concerned because the polish/symmetry was only good/good but truly in person its just lovely and sparkly...the dimensions where right on.

Not sure when he is going to POP the questions, we have a trip planned to NYC in mid Oct...so maybe then?? I''ll definitley post pictures as soon as I can...

Whoops, I feel bad for missing this thread the first time around! Thanks wallermama/Amber/blingdiva for telling vivosogno what I would have said if I''d been here!

AnaTexasGirl - I can''t wait to see your ring when you get it!!!!! Wishing you the best for a speedy proposal once the ring''s done, and congratulations from a fellow VW-setting/not-VW-stone girl!

Thanks Albi! Actually your thread is the place that has the most VW setting pictures on the web! and trust me I have LOOKED, your e-ring is beautiful and although it''s a cushion (and I am getting a round) whenever I want to look at a picture to remind me of my own e-ring I go straight to your thread!

Did you get your wedding band from VW line as well? We haven''t thought that far in advance yet but I was just wondering...

Aw yay, you make me feel so special!!

Yes, I got the VW "matching" band - but I have to warn you: it doesn''t TECHNICALLY match. By PS standards that is. By anyone-sane-in-the-rest-of-the-world standards it totally does, but it has slightly higher side walls so it looks almost channel set from straight down and is a bit taller than the engagement ring band. I was a bit surprised when we first picked it up since we ordered "the matching band" and no one ever mentioned it, but I am totally in love with it now, and kind of like how they''re a teensy bit different. However, if you''re super into matching, I would recommend looking around because I think there''s a whiteflash band and maybe a Michael B too that look like they might be a slightly closer match.

That said, I''m sooo glad I have mine now because I decided to engrave the SIDE of my wedding band, so I''ll actually see it when I''m wearing it! Or I can turn it around to face the engagement ring if I just want to see the smooth area. Regardless, here are some pictures I took (still not married, but you can''t keep a PS-er away from a camera!!) when the wedding band first came in!

Thank you for all the great advice on the wedding band, I can see exactly what you are saying from your picture, but I think straight on the difference it slight, and together they look very pretty. I guess the band on the engagement ring is sooo thin that they may have to make it a little bit thicker for the wedding band (? this is a complete guess on my part ?). The store that we purchased the setting from also makes their own line similar to Micheal B but even thinner...I do like your idea of engraving something, very romantic!

i definitley recommend doing a seperate diamond/band purchase because the mark up at BBB or from VW with a diamond already set is CRAZY. We had seen a 1.5 I at BBB and they wanted over 19K for it!
