Using different sized melee in the same halo?

Hi everyone!

I'm still pretty new around here, so hopefully I chose the right forum for this post.

I have a loose oval sapphire (approx. 8x6), and I have plans to work with David Klass to create a custom halo setting. I love the look of "fat" ovals, so I was toying with the idea of asking him to use slightly larger diamonds on the sides of the halo, and slightly smaller ones on the top and bottom. Hopefully this will give the illusion of a rounder pear. Does that make sense? I tried searching google images for something like this to see how it would look, but I'm having a hard time finding a visual. I like halos on the larger side, so I was thinking of a range between 1.5 to 2 pointers.

Has anyone here done this?? I'd love to see examples! Thanks so much! xoxo

Thanks for your reply. That's definitely unique! Although not quite what I'm picturing. I'd like the different size stones to be subtle, so that someone looking at it wouldn't necessarily notice the stones on the side are wider.

I'm sure it's possible, but you'd probably have to get a cad to see what it would actually look like. I took a quick look and couldnt find quite what you were looking for as an example.

There was a thread just a short while back about making a round stone look more oval-shaped with the use of larger melee at various spots in the halo. There were some examples/images posted there. I'll see if I can find the thread. Here's an example of different size melee in a halo (although not very delicate)

I understand and can picture what you are saying. My advise would be to call David and ask him what he thinks, if he's done it before, if it can be done ( I am pretty sure it can) and that you want it to be a subtle size difference, just enough to trick the eyes but not in your face obvious. Tell him that you want to play around with CADs till you get the right ratio/propotions so that he doesn't waste time doing multiple rough cast. DK is very easy to work with, you just got to keep at it till you get it right. ;))

Did you ever find a resolution to this? I have a jeweler who is suggesting using a small range of melee in the halo of a pear to bulk out the bottom to make it look fatter!

Mine has a cushion halo with a round center. In every 'corner' the stones are slightly bigger. The effect is very subtle:
