costco diamond prices have gone up alot since i last shopped there.
i am looking a 1 ct VS round what are my odd off findging a good untreated one on cragislist. idonoi... ect....
i just want eye clean. and DEFG collor and looks pretty in
this kind of setting

I'm not one of the experts... and there will be some on here that will find you some options.. but I can tell you no one on here will support buying a treated dimaond. Very bad idea.. stick to the real thing even in you have to go to I/J color.

A good place to start and they have a number of nice options right now in the size you are looking for is Jewels by Erica Grace... by considering an antique cut you might be able to get closer to your size and beauitful diamond with a lot of charm and history.

Treated diamonds aren't evil or anything. They have some downsides, notably lack of durability. But the real disadvantage is that for whatever reason the jewelry industry has mostly decided not to sell them and they are too often sold as something they are not.

As far as resale value, all diamonds have wretched resale values. But if you buy it off of Craigslist, you can probably sell it off of Craigslist for about the same amount of money.

Some options: Find a jeweler that sells consigned pieces. This will be a little more expensive. Look at antiques. You can find some lovely stuff, but probably not what you visualize when you think of a modern wedding ring. Pricescope has the pre-loved forum. Selection is limited but you can get more info about what you are buying beforehand.

You can get some serious bargains at a pawnshop, but this requires you to think about what you want get tools (loupe, ASET scope), learn to use them, and evaluate a lot of diamonds while the shop owner glares at you. People do sell some great stuff on E-bay, but the whole thing is a den of thieves and your chances of losing your money are high. If you buy ten awesome rings and get shafted on one, the other nine bargains can make up for it. Not so reassuring when you only want one ring. Craigslist is sort of like E-bay except that you have to worry about meeting that occasional crook face to face.

Buying from a friend is often the most profitable for the friend and the cheapest for you, but then you end up with your best bud's ex-wife's ring. Uh, yeah. There's usually too much opportunity to lose a friend there anyhow.

Anyhow if you go that route start by setting your budget, deciding what you want, finding a good independent appraiser to help you, and learn to evaluate diamonds both sight unseen and when you get them in your hand. If you want one thing to make it easier eliminate everything that lacks a GIA or AGS certificate. This will greatly increase the likelihood that the seller is offering you what they say they are.

thanks for all the advise... for now i am stearing away from the treated diamonds.... I live in Phoenix and while I found a shop that carries a slection of treated colorless diamonds I will put that on the back burner as my choice.

I am looking into the online consigner "I do... I do not"

and hope to cherry pick a 1 CT VS GIA solitare there and sell the setting for scrap. each ring comes with a bit a bad ju ju and a breakup story but for a deal i could get the bad ju ju wiped off .... i figure base it on the seller and the cert.

You can find a GIA (3x) VS (1 or 2) within your budget without using Sam's Place or Bill or Craig's list and no need to wipe anything off.

Color starting at L. Try the search engine above.....I just did and there were more than a few choices....happy searching...

It's guestimated that about 40% of stones in jewelry shops have been owned. No one is sure and it varies at lot depending on what sort of stone you are looking at. There are all sorts of things you can consider to get the price down.

There's a big jump in price from .9 carat to 1 carat. You probably can't see a size difference unless you hold them side by side.
A well cut stone looks bigger anyhow because the edges are brighter.
People start seeing visible color in normal viewing circumstances around H or I. This is not to say the stones are yellow--just visibly not ice-white. But a well cut stone in this range is brighter than a poorly cut whiter stone.
Some inclusions are more visible than others. You can find a site with good pictures and helpful staff and sort through their S1.

All this is probably less work and less risk than E-bay, although you can hit the jackpot on E-bay if you're really good at it.
