Hi everyone,

I'm currently having my engagement ring reset. I have a rectangular 1.05ct princess (6.01 x 5.45mm) which I'll be having set with a yellow gold shank and platinum basket, the band will be 3mm wide with 3 shoulder diamonds on each side.

I had already chosen a basket however it doesn't suit v-prongs and I would like a basket that suits v-prongs. I've been struggling to find another basket that I like and would appreciate any pictures or advice.

I like flowing, elegant designs.

Thank you in advance for your help :D

You usually dont see "baskets" on V shaped prongs. Its just the V shaped prongs. Are you looking for cross bars that connect the prongs?
More basket like?

Thanks for your reply.

Yes sort of, it's hard to explain. I want to have the v-corners around my stone to protect the corners but I'd like the setting head itself that sits on the shank to flow a bit, like a tulip or lotus flower. Most of the settings that I like don't really suit a princess cut stone so I'm trying to find something a bit in between that's not all straight lines.

I probably should have described it as v-corners as I see what you mean about v-prongs/v-corners, they are two different things.

This is not executed well, but each V-prong can have curved base to make a floral shape.

Another rendering, but the prong tip is wrong for a V-prong.

You could skip the pave, but the gallery detail is really nice.

This looks very tulip like sfrom the side with the deep V.

Tacori Dantela.

I would not recommend setting the diamont THIS high, but he prongs are interesting.

I had this setting with v-prongs for my princess cut diamond. Loved it!

Too late to edit but the Greta is made by Jeff Cooper. Good luck with your setting choice!!

I the Jeff Cooper one, which is very pretty, make sure if you go this route that X (yellow) does not stick out beyond the shank. You want your wedding band to rub/ride on the shoulders (blue) not the diamonds. The diamonds will eat the wedding band otherwise.

It doesn’t. The diamonds were recessed so no rubbing the wedding band.

Not the best pics but hopefully you can see how the setting looks for a princess diamond with v-prongs. The setting is platinum and held a 2 carat diamond.

They are both beautiful, thank you rockysalamander and kmarla for your help. Kmarla, that's a great photo of your setting, it's stunning  Have you changed your setting or your diamond?

My post was unclear. Since the OP is going custon, I was just pointing out that feature where the X was recessed.

I upgraded my diamond a couple of years ago. I have a RB now and the dimensions are quite different so this setting couldn’t be used. I loved this setting so much that I kept it though. I hope to find a gemstone or other alternative to place in it so I can wear it again.

Rockysalamander, I totally agree with your advice :). I didn’t want to have any issues with rubbing or wear either and this setting is designed so that there never were any problems.

After much consideration I've decided to leave my ring as it is for a while and come back to it at a later date, I think I'd like to get a ready-made setting as then I can see and hold exactly what I'm getting beforehand. The only problem would be finding one to fit my stone. There are so many stunning ready-made settings.

I figure if I'm not 100% sure I'll leave it for the moment as it's all a lot of money, when my head is clearer I'll come back to it. Thank you again for your help.
