Popping the question soon.

After lurking here for the past few months, I selected a J diamond for my soon to be fiancee's ring. I chose a vintage style and felt some warmth would be a great fit. I was concerned that j may be too warm given we are both extremely color sensitive (I'm a graphic designer/artist).

This website has been a wealth of knowledge and thank you to all the many members that have contributed.

I finally selected a stone and platinum ring from Jamesallen as I found their imaging and customer service to be top notch. They even offered to swap out the stone under their satisfaction guarantee if unhappy with the color of the J diamond.

The original stone selected was https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...-color-vvs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-5435677

Here is the finished product:

It looked absolutely beautiful but was far too warm for my liking. Credit again to James Allen customer service. The help, support, and genuine level of care provided afterwards has been fantastic.

After long thought and days off searching I decided to go with a F colored stone. Icy white just seemed to fit the look of the ring better once in hand.

I expressed my color concern and my goals of a triple excellent, faint to no florescence, eyeclean S1-VS1 and $7000- $7500 diamond budget. They replied in turn with several suggestions.

This diamond stuck out the most to me:

Their custom service rep assured me it was eyeclean face up and from the sides and that the inclusion could be hidden under a prong without issue. Another rep said it would be hard to find much of and an improvement unless I upped the clarity or went with a lower color.

I was satisfied with the ideal scope image and moved forward with the order. I'm just curious as to your opinions. Thank you all.

Kudos on the ring. It looks good overall, even with the J. But I understand how color sensitivity and tolerance can play into the overall equation.

A few thoughts:
  • What color is your melee stones on the setting? If upgrading from J to F color, you may also need to up the color on them too so you don't have a visual contrast.
  • The clarity plot of the SI1 appears very good. I did notice a feather was the grade setting inclusion. Not sure if you are aware, but feather is a fancy term for a crack. I assume there will be no structural issues, but it may be a worthwhile question to JA.
  • Did you ask, or did JA offer, an Idealscope image of either stone? If so, can you please post for our review?
  • While I do like the smaller 55 table on the F stone, I like the proportions of the J stone better. The steeper 35 crown paired with a shallower 40.6 pavilion is more complimentary to one another. Additionally, high crowns are known to produce more fire. Technically a larger table would reduce the fire produced but I think the benefit of the higher crown trumps the table gains. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.
  • The shallower 34 crown paired with a shallow 40.6 pavilion will result in less fire, and more white light return.
Below is how the proportions play out when comparing to the AGS proportions charts.

I asked for the images on the first somes, they provided on the f stone no question needed. I'll try to upload them when I get off work.

I am aware of the feather and it's meaning but they said it should not pose any issue and will be under the prong once set.

Ive already started an insurance policy for it just to be safe so we'll both sleep well and truthfully, she could care less about any of this and would be happy with cheap costume jewelry . This post is really for me as I tend to over think much of everything I do.

Thank you for your reply!

New stone is here and looks much better. The J had a little more fire but the color more than makes up the difference to me.
