My original post was a few weeks ago about a pear that we had bought that was definitely far from what we had hoped (this one)...this one is a much happier one.

We ended up sending back the stone that had too much bowtie, and I took a recommendation for a local jeweler from a friend. Went there, talked with them, laid out what I wanted and what I didn''t want, and he brought in 4 stones for me to look at. The last one of those jumped out at me, as it had for him, and we immediately decided it was the one. It was SLIGHTLY smaller in carat weight, but the length and width were nearly the same, it was just a bit shallower. Better color (D vs. F), the same clarity, and little to now bowtie, and what is there is very light, not as nearly black as the previous one had been. Plus it was a much better deal and ended up with a better stone for less money. Can''t ask for much more than that!

Getting the setting done this month, which should complement it perfectly. Updates when I get some pictures of the setting!

mmmm, very nice!!

What are the specs on that beauty??

What a GORGEOUS pear! Do tell us more about it...carat, clarity, color, etc... It''s a knockout!

Ah no bow tie visible in that photo! Congrats.

I don't have a copy of the GIA cert in front of me, but off the top of my head...

Dimensions: 10.3 x 6.5 x3.5

Color: D
Clarity: SI1
Cut: Pear Brilliant
Carat Weight: 1.16ct

Depth: 49%
Table: 60.5%
Girdle: Thin to Slightly Thick, Faceted
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None

So it's a fairly shallow stone, but in the setting it will be in (which resembles yours, FireGoddess, but with a cathedral setting that brings the 2pt melee stones up to meet the halo), it shouldn't be noticeable...and it has a huge amount of fire from what I have seen of it, both inside the store and then even more once I took it out into the sunlight.

Overall, it beats the original stone in overall beauty, in amount of bowtie, in fire, in brilliance, and most of all, in girlfriend's happiness. So I'd have to say "yay" overall to it!

I am excited to get that on my finger!!

congrats! what ideas do you have for a setting?

We wanted to do a cathedral setting, w/ the micropave halo, and melee in the shank, inspired by FireGoddess''s gorgeous ring

. And if you''ve seen the Tiffany Legacy ring, we''re hoping for a setting that''s something along those lines, only with a pear stone instead of the cushion they have, and a few other minor tweaks.

Hopefully the wax will come out as planned, then it''s a go!
