Unplated white gold for a solitaire

So after having the ring for a day, I’m now going to have it rhodium plated :lol-2::lol-2:
I love the unplated wg in pictures and was so certain it was for me! But in most lights today I have really disliked how the color of this particular alloy looks on my pale skin. It definitely looks darker in real life, really similar to the color of the metal appliances in my kitchen!
Glad I tried it but it isn’t working on me. Sigh! But thank you all for the interesting discussion :D

Pause.

Don’t do anything yet. Wait a week. Try it with different bands. Try it with a different finish - brushed, matte.

Make sure you want to plate. Once you plate you can’t unplate - you’re committing to maintaining the plating for as long as you have the mount.

Thanks for this advice! You’re so right about different bands. I just tried it with an old sterling silver band, my original wedding ring. We had a last-minute wedding with 2 days to organise the whole thing. Anyway! It actually looks SO pretty with the silver. So now I’m thinking I’ll try keeping it as-is and wear the silver band again for a while.

My actual wedding band is a deep rich 18k yg and it clashes horribly with the unplated wg.

Pic below with all 3, Sterling, unplated wg, 18k yg

I know you’re not supposed to wear gold and silver next to each other, but I love the mixed white metals, they compliment each other and the diamond so nicely. Would a rhodium plated wg wedding band therefore be a better option do you think?

I also tend to love mixed metals. I mix gold, silver and wg all the time! My latest right hand stack is a little aquamarine sterling silver estate ring with an antique yellow gold wedding band, and a yg beaded band. I really like them all together, but I think it all comes down to personal preference!

I love your e ring together with both bands! I think wg unplated ties the other two bands you have together very nicely. It’s almost like an ombre.

If the Queen of England can mix metals (YG wedding band, plat e-ring) so can you! I like your YG diamond band with the WG more than I like the silver band with the WG. Silver is too "cold" of a color along with the warmer WG and YG.

@Jsand I absolutely LOVE it mixed with your bands; it’s beautiful!

That’s the same thing I love about my unplanted WG items ... they coordinate with every other metal color there is. Wear it in much health and happiness!

I love this forum and everyone’s responses to my thread, thank you all!
@OcnGypZ I’m English so I had better follow suit!

I just wanted to update everyone that so kindly advised me here! I took the advice of @yssie and waited a couple of weeks to be sure about rhodium plating. I went ahead with it, as the unplated wg just did not suit me.
Upon receiving the ring back with bright shiny white metal (which I love), I could very obviously see the tint in the H color stone. And then in most lighting situations I couldn’t unsee it over the subsequent weeks. I really didn’t anticipate being color sensitive at all; my mother’s ering is an I color and that always looked really white to me!

So you know how Christmas is a time for thinking of others? Well I did the opposite this year, and decided on a mini diamond upgrade for myself! I now have an E/.53ct/SI1 CBI, which I am extremely happy with! The difference in size and color immediately jumped out. It’s so perfect, somehow seems 100 times sparklier than my H. I got it this evening and can’t wait to see it in daylight tomorrow!

Diaclaimer: my children’s Xmas gifts were not sacrificed as a result of purchasing this upgrade. I’m not *that* selfish

Amazing stuff. I am definitely going for unplated white gold for a project one day :)

Wow - what an update! Absolutely beautiful ring, and I am loving it next to your beautiful tree! The size .53 looks lovely on your finger. I'm sorry if I missed it, but what size was the H stone you originally bought? I love that you treated yourself for Christmas!

Thank you! My H was .41! Both teeny tiny stones by PS standards, but the upgrade is nearly a 30% size increase so I’m definitely appreciating it!

Oh I think it’s just beautiful!!! A merry Christmas indeed!

there’s nothing teeny tiny about it - it has a lot of presence!

Honestly it truly does not look small on your finger. I agree with Annagene, it has a lot of presence!
