Uh oh - loving this Steven Kirsch setting

So I've been looking for a simple 2mm setting with bright cut pave and fine milgrain, to house my round brilliant. I've gotten some great suggestions here but something about each setting I've seen hasn't been quite right... I've disliked a detail here or there. I want a solitaire setting but something about the undefined edges of the diamond didn't look quite right to me, and I didn't want to go full-on halo. So I noticed the Tacori bloom which has a hint of a halo but again not quite right. Enter Steven Kirsch and this design...PERFECTION. I love how there's a pave basket that sits under the diamond to add a subtle bling when you're looking face down at the diamond. I know this is a cushion cut but in looking at his other settings, I'm sure he can do a similar treatment to a RB (similar to the Preciosa). I was hoping to spend only 2k for an 18k white gold setting. I emailed SK for a quote...so worried he's going to come back at twice my budget!! Has anyone done this design? Is SK pricey? I noticed one person did the Preciosa but this setting is more dainty in the basket. Perhaps SK would suggest doing a single claw setting rather than double claws.

GORGEOUS!

Your 2K is not enough for a SK pave ring. You should budget at least $3500 but more like $4000-$5000.

Gulp thanks Charmy. 3500 I can possibly handle. I love your SK wedding band by the way!

I know Artdeco! Where are you with your setting hunt?

Anyone have suggestions on the look for less?

I received a quote from SK recently for something similar, a solitaire with a pave shank. Around $5500. Little pricey for what I'm getting. Not sure about your particular design.

That ring is stunning, but I agree with the others, I would be surprised if it came in below $4000.
*fingers crossed* for you :)

Where are you getting your center stone? Can they make something similar to this for less?

Thanks for asking-I am getting ready to order stones (second batch) to look at! I have it nailed down now on the range of specs.

Try Chris at ERD

A local person is selling the diamond...not sure if they can do this type of setting but I'll ask to see their portfolio. Going to see some GIA certs and stones tomorrow!! Excited for me and for you too.

Thanks I'll ask ERD!

Redroze, I love that setting too. I asked for a quote for that exact setting almost 2 years ago and it was over $5k then. It was one of the pricier ones as I ended up getting a halo from Steven for less, but yes, you'll have to more than double your budget most likely.

I second this advice! After getting quotes from VC, SK, and a few others, I chose Chris at ERD. He was wonderful to work with and my ring turned our gorgeous!

5 k definitely isn't going to work. Okay Charmy, I'll try Mark Broumand. Hmm based on ERD's site I don't know if they can do something as complex as this. What do you think?

Thanks all!

Momhappy your halo is lovely! Ok I'll definitely try ERD!

It's not complicated. It's a rosebud style solitaire. Look up Daniel K rosebud. You won't be able to get a real Daniel K. But the style is one several designers have been inspired by.

ERD can make it just fine.

Someone else had one... if you look on the 150k heart thread someone recommended the rosebud style.

Daniel K's Rosebud. The Steven one you linked to has a different gallery, but he does them both ways.

I don't have any expert input, I just had to chime in and say WOW, I really love that setting. That design is the perfect subtle alternative to a full halo (exactly what you were looking for), how beautiful!

Gypsy you're a lifesaver!! I've been tossing and turning all night thinking how to get around this, and now I have hope!!! I'll look up Daniel K and show it to the custom Jeweller I'm meeting with today to source diamonds. They work in CAD so perhaps it would work!

I looked up Sparkles SK ring and it looks like they pace both the underside of the basket and the part cupping the actual diamond. How do they prevent the actual diamond from rubbing up against the pave?

Do people think this style would look nice for a 1.2 RB on a size 4.25 finger (I checked and I'm actually a loose 4 now! But it's cold in Canada). People don't wear huge diamonds here - anywhere from 0.70 to 1 is the norm. I just don't want it to look odd with my diamond size.

Gypsy you rock, had to say it again.

Aha - found it. By pavelover. Hard to see the rosebud in her photos. She has a 1.6 "Lazare' diamond. https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/omg-i-have-been-dying-to-show-you-guys.67727/

And here is the Daniel K link, and he does it with a RB! http://www.danielk.net/product.php?id=278&id_cat=5&position=40&start=8

I found a moissanite version, just from digging around. So it looks like others have been able to replicate it. I'd want pave diamonds and milgrain, not the pave type in this photo. I love the view from the angle, but head on does it look too much like an invisible setting or bezel? I don't want to go to the trouble if it just ends up looking like a wannabe halo...for lack of a better descriptor. Can I get some opinions please?

Hmm I just read that the design I linked to is actually a modification to the rosebud to make the under halo stick out more. Looks like the original you can only see the pave from an angle. The top down view just appears like a solitaire. I think I'm ok with that!

This setting isn't hard to replicate. However I would hesitate to have your local person do it. Look at their current rings in store and see if th details bother you etc. I have found that most ppl on PS when go through a local jeweler to replicate pave come back extremely unhappfy with it.

If you are going to replicate this one I 4th or 5th ERD. They will do a great version that is stil delicate.

I think a 1.2 RB would look wonderful on a size 4 finger. Take a look at the pictures posted on the 1-2 carat threads on PS to see how they look on others. How you ultimately feel about the ring will determine how uncomfortable you are around others. If you love it and wear it w/confidence, then I don't think you'll feel odd at all.

HA! You know my answer right :-) I love "big" stones on small fingers
does it truly matter what anyone but you thinks?? unless you go to a HUGE stone, no one will notice anything but how stunning it looks on your finger in my opinon (I could be wrong but that is what my gut says!)

I really like when you see the tiny bit of sparkle at the top view as well-just beautiful! Let us know what happens-

Just an update...the SK quote came back at 4600. I really studied the setting and I don't think it's worth the risk and cost to do the under halo when it's just a subtle effect anyway. I also prefer it with a square shape - a cushion or an asscher - versus a round. I also saw a 6 prong in person and I'm loving how it looks on a round! So I'm going with this look...pave cathedral 6 prong, but with milgrain added.

image_1223.jpg

This profile with 6 prongs with some inset diamonds at the base of the basket. Ignore the prongs as they look a little wobbly (stole this off the Internet somewhere).
image_1224.jpg

I'd like to incorporate some type of pave and milgrain detail in the profile...like this photo's detail on the prongs and basket but NOT on the side of the ring so the pave doesn't rub against my weddingband...not sure if I'll do pave on the prongs. We will see.

image_1225.jpg

And yes I saw a ring with 1.2 carat diamond today and it looked lovely!

Where are you in Canada?

Near Toronto

Oh Gypsy!! I've been looking through basket photos of 6 prongs for the longest time and nothing looked right! They were either the standard tiffany type of cathedral basket or too covered. The link you went me to has a nice antique look but still covers too much of the diamond for my tastes but the pave leafy detail made me remember...that I fell in love with the Leon Mege Lotus setting! I gazed at the LM video many times wistfully thinking it would never be mine - I'd never have a LM nor would I have a diamond sizeable enough to work. But you made me realize the leafy detail from the Lotus design would be PERFECT. :appl: im so inspired and have to figure out how to make that work! Not with the rose gold or pink diamonds...but wow would that look amazing with my setting!

Hmm I'm thinking I still like the simplicity of the original SK design. Will contact ERD now.

I don't think it will look odd. I have a Daniel K Rosebud inspired ring with a 7 mm stone and it looks fine on my size 3 finger.

I see lots of large diamonds in Toronto. Most of my friends have 1 - 1.5 ct as their ering stones.
