Do you have realistic expecations about what diamonds look like in real life -- any cuts, not only pears?

I think a lot of people new to diamonds expect wild fire cracker flashes like in videos under spot lighting. In reality, you don't see that. Unless you are under spot lighting ;)) Most of the time, my diamond flashes chunky white lights. That's just how most lighting makes diamonds look in my experience.

True... honestly I have a pear and though it's not as good a performer as yours, it does perform rather similarly to the other diamonds I own (except the OECs, which are only firey though in certain lights). If you're not satisfied with rounds because they're too common and fancies because they don't perform like you want, maybe what you REALLY want is a colored stone. I know that while I like diamonds, they're too boring for me for every day except as accent stones, because they just lack color. (Come to the dark side!) If you really think it could be changed by a different shape of stone, what I would do is figure out what one you want (OEC maybe?) and buy a smallish - half carat maybe - one on ebay/db/wherever for a steal (which may take some hunting and waiting) and then wear it as a RHR so you can compare, and see if it's really the pear that is the issue. I do think that if you're not in the position to return your ring, then it doesn't hurt to wait to be sure about your feelings and to save up.

I also wanted to throw something else out there that no one else has mentioned - I've gone through periods of hating my ring. I mean, I LOVE my ring and would never want to get rid of it, but sometimes I hate it. Sometimes the urge to smash it is overwhelming, because it has SO MUCH BAGGAGE for a little piece of jewelry, and if I'm feeling overwhelmed with my relationship and taking big steps, sometimes my feelings spill out onto my ring rather than my fiance (not that I am not perfectly happy in my relationship either - but I'm young, this is only my second serious relationship, and taking all these big steps is scary). And my half-moons don't sparkle as much as I'd like. But you know what... I've never seen sparklier half-moons, only duller ones, so I know they're pretty decent (though I think my avatar picture is really bad for them lol, but it IS a much clearer shot of what the ring looks like overall), and at the end of the day I just really like the half-moon shape. I don't really know how to resolve any of these feelings but I have them. So... your feelings are legitimate, but objectively your ring is gorgeous. Even though you may not feel that way. (But also, for me, like when my friends say instead of helping them shop for engagement rings I should just give them mine, I want to punch them in the face because it's MIIIIIIIIIINE. So. Does the thought of someone else having your ring make you want to murder people? If so, I recommend you keep it. If not, maybe you need a different one.)

I'm not sure that this post is at all helpful. It's just rambling.

I ordered the Jewel Jet based on this thread. I just want to say that clean is SO important. I have the ultrasonic too and just cleaned my Facets pink sapphire band in it - it's amazing how sparkly it is!!!!! I was beginning to think I'd just imagined it was awesome b/c I was excited back when I got it. I have to say, I have a lot of channel set bands and you can scrub and scrub and NOTHING cleans a channel set like a very good US or Jewel Jet. These pink sapphires are sparkling like diamonds!!!

are those good with micro pave? if so I think thats my route.
I dont know what I did differently on friday but there was fire galore.

And Distracts you are totally right I think its something about a mental thing. Not about getting married, but about spending so much money on one thing that i want it to be as perfect as possible. not that it was 50K or something but it was enough to make me feel uncomfortable about the price. I wanted it to be shooting fire, huge and clear and a perfect shape. And it pretty much is that ( for the price range and all ), but in my head I just worry 'maybe i could have done better". Which I dont think thats pricescopes fault, because most of the rings on here are beautiful but out of my price range, or not my style, or something else.
But I thought about selling it and when it came down to it but i REALLY couldnt think of letting it go.
she's mine and I love her, and I jsut have to keep her clean as can be.
