Hi all,
I am a frequent lurker. In another thread someone had posted a link of Ross-Simons and there are several setting there I am very interested in purchasing for a reset, however, I have a complication.
As mentioned in a previous thread, I am planning on getting my mother's 1.07 ct diamond (G/G/G) recut but BG. I haven't had a chance to travel to the US yet since I don't want to ship it across the border in case it gets "lost". I am wondering how much of the diamond will be lost in the recut. I know it is hard to say but I need a good guess so that I know which setting to purchase. The settings come in a .75 ct or a 1 ct size. I don't want to buy anything too big or small. Can a jeweler manipulate the setting to make it fit?
My plan is to send the diamond for a recut next week and also to purchase a settings from the sale next week. The setting will be shipped to me and I'll get the diamond reset by my jeweler. Hopefully BG will ok the diamond for a recut and I'll have it back soon. I have read alot of posts about recuts and some loss a bit and some more.
Is this a bad plan? The prices on the settings are incredible (I think). I would hate the chance to give my mom a GREAT setting vs an ok setting. Bigger bang for buck, so to say.
Thoughts? What would you do?

BGD will let you know what the plan is once they get it.

Thanks JulieN. I don't want to miss out on this sale. I guess I am wondering if I should go with the 1 ct setting rather than the .75 setting.

Give the people at Brian Gavin the full specs of the diamond they should be able to give you a rough general idea of what it will end up as....

Thanks for your reply arkieb1. I just read the assessment she was given when my dad bought the ring and it is 1.15 ct. I googled Ross Simons and they do not have good reviews. Rethinking the whole thing.
