I have a solitaire that I would like to turn into a three stone ring for my mum using some earrings that I no longer wear. Im just wondering if anyone has done this and if so, would you recommend doing it or just removing all three stones and starting from scratch?

What a fun project! That is so sweet. Do you want to take all 3 stones and put them into a 3 stone setting? I am sure it can be done. I think others have done it. Are they about the same color and cut? Most people prefer the stones to match in color and table size... but I'm not picky. I have a K cushion with f/g side pears and I love it.

Ooh, I have no idea. I like the idea of keeping the original setting of the ring and modifying it to add the two additional stones but Im unsure if that will be more trouble than its worth.

The solitaire stone is a Gia G Si1 (Eyeclean & Ex/Ex/Ex) but the stones in the earrings aren't certified. I sent them off to a an accredited appraiser in Sydney, Australia (where I am) and they were graded as being G/H Si1. I daresay that they aren't the highest quality in terms of cut but they aren't terrible sparkle plenty. The table sizes are 4.4mm & 4.45mm for the diamonds in the earrings and 5.80mm for the diamond in the solitaire. Im hoping they will all pair together beautifully =)2

Very kind and generous of you to do that for your mum!

I have a three stone ring and I would recommend resetting all stones into a new setting. My advice would be for your mum to try on some rings just so she can see what style she likes. There are various three stone ring styles (4 prongs on all stones, 6 prong center, 3 prongs sides, etc.) and it will be good to see what your mum likes.

Can you give us the dimensions of all stones?

ETA: NVM - just saw your latest post. Those are perfect proportions for a three stone.

What is your budget and what is your mom’s ring size?

Unfortunately, getting her to try on rings isn’t an option because this is a surprise. I have a three stone ring and she’s always said that she would love the same. She never really got an engagement ring from my dad, she just has a plain wedding ring and an eternity ring that he bought her about a decade ago. I guess I just thought it would be nice to surprise her with a three stone of her own, and seeing as I have this solitaire and earrings I thought Id purpose them to that end. My budget is $1200AUD. I quite like the look of WFs Butterflies setting but they won’t sell the setting by itself. Alternatively, something that resembles my own three stone will also do - only as a single ring as opposed to a solitaire with a guard.
