Trump campaign ads use Nazi symbol, FB removed ads

That down facing red triangle is an emoji available on my smartphone. Is Apple anti Semitic? Why would that symbol be available on my phone if EVERYONE knows it is a white supremacy dog whistle? Who is responsible for this?
It looks like there are other colors of triangles that could be problematic as well. I am a little concerned about my fridge magnets and the messages they have been sending.
In the 90’s there were so many people walking around with these symbols and nothing was done.

Guess ?....Nazi’s!!!

I did not guess that at all.

This is the first thing I thought of when I first saw the symbol... I'm a child of the 90's, what can I say? I saved for a long time for the yellow, red, and white pairs of jeans... my parents refused to pay for them. Who else wore Guess clothing??

Anyone who wore Guess garments or spent money on the brand needs to publically apologize - blatant racists glorifying Nazism every time they wore this brand!! Networks who allowed advertising of the brand... SHAMEFUL! I expect a public apology from network execs, as well as a 16 part plan to "do better." Anyone who published photos of people wearing said garments should be shut down effective immediately! Yearbooks and all other items with people in Guess clothing should be BURNED. Can you imagine the pain this has caused numerous people through the years?? The powers that be who approved said photos to be published or displayed are clearly uneducated, racist, hate-mongering trash people. Guess itself needs give a fierce apology for perpetuating hate and racism via their logo. Also, even if they agree to change said logo, shut them down anyway. We WILL NOT tolerate this. Anyone who is remotely associated with this company should be DONE financially with their reputations ruined, never to recover! PeriodT.

Sound like a plan? Who feels better now?

Ah - you’d have to read her posts here together with her posts to Missy’s about antisemitism.

I did. Honestly, I think you’re reading a bit too much into her posts; she shared she is not from the U.S., so while I understand most of her posts, I believe a little “cultural-interpretive“ tolerance is likely warranted. There are a few posters on PS who’s comments I sometimes need to read 2 or 3 times for that reason. PS is a global community; we don’t all speak/think/post the same. And what difference does her profile being blocked make ... mine is too, as are many others; so what?

As for the red triangle, I don’t recall ever hearing/reading it associated with anti-semitism, but these days - everyone is offended by everything. It’s never my goal or intent to offend someone, and I believe the same is the case in most people. But it’s to the point now where I don’t (and won’t) spend every waking moment researching what possible shapes/symbols/colors/hand gestures/facial expressions/etc. might be perceived as ‘offensive‘ to someone at some point in life - past, present or future. It doesn’t mean I don't care about discrimination; I just don't prioritize reacting to things I cannot control over those I can ... or in this case, things that make sense.

~~~~~
I won’t speak for others, but to those constantly asking “why do/don’t republicans/conservatives (enter moral-outrage-flavor-of-the-day)...” - it’s simple: the left’s hypocrisy is a never-ending bottomless pit, whereas a POTUS term is only four years.
After three years of people crying wolf every time "Orange Man Bad" blinks, coupled with daily overdoses of virtue signaling and faux outrage, it just comes across as more of the same, tiresome political axe grinding following the 2016 election. It’s a daily-aired marathon re-running the same episode over and over and over. So quit swimming in denial asking “why?” when “you” opened the dam.
I mean, where is the PS thread about this offensive children’s toy?
B49D2A43-3B3C-495C-962A-A219A726001E.jpeg
And these abhorrent sunglasses!
62E75084-543B-4E5D-97BC-6E29DE44BFC6.jpeg
Or more seriously, where is the PS thread and mob-mentality expressing moral outrage about anti-semitism when NYC Mayor de Blasio literally targeted & threatened the Jewish community via this tweet in late April when they peacefully mourned the loss of a Rabbi due to and during COVID? THIS is clear, direct and intentional targeting of and discrimination toward the Jewish community.
Note he said that such gatherings "would NOT be tolerated while fighting Coronavirus" and that there was a “zero tolerance” policy. Also note that their peaceful observance didn't lead to nor result in a riot, destruction of property, or looting.
Yet, only one month later - while the U.S. COVID-epicenter is still reeling and just before/at start of Phase 1 - the same mayor ... in the state that shoved thousands of seniors into nursing homes to die ... not only has a different tone but is supportive and sympathetic with BLM crowds/public demonstration/protests ... which did lead to rioting, destruction and looting (even if it may not be the same exact crowd doing it) ... what happened to “zero tolerance” for mass gatherings?
But sure ... let the outrage ooze over a triangle appearing in a Trump ad. SSDD ... grab the floaties. :roll:
@the_mother_thing and @msop04 You both get an A+ for exquisite use of nearly all of these https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/common-logical-fallacies
What hasn't been mentioned yet (I think) is that the ad in question was trump's attempt to get his base riled up about the mobs of people destroying our cities. Divisive, bloviated, fear mongering, hate inciting -- the same tactics which made the nazis so successful.
Blurry pic of what appeared above the red triangle:
@Matata Spare me the typical ‘debate club’ diversion when the facts don’t support the left’s typical wolf-crying narrative so you can ignore actual anti-semitism when demonstrated by a Democrat. Care to share thoughts on Durbin’s ignorant and racist use of the word ‘token’ in response to Tim Scott’s work on police reform legislation?
Those truly offended by the use of the symbol should direct their anger where it belongs: far left extremist groups; not the Orange fella wanting to eradicate those hate groups. For example, ’CLE’ is not a conservative organization, but a left/progressive one - specifically Democratic Socialists. Facebook hasn’t shut them down for anti-semitism, discrimination, etc. Gee, I wonder why ... :roll:
The verbiage in the Trump post/ad in conjunction with the Antifa symbol makes absolute sense considering he has repeatedly stated his opposition to the group.
Slothful Induction Fallacy and Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy and Red Herring.
I watched the video and read the article for which you missed the point. :doh::lol:
We all must do what is best for us.. I am a staunch democrat and always see the best so I could be wrong, I do try to read right stuff :)
One man, one vote and it's yours to do whatever you want and I support that wholeheartedly.
If we have a third party do you believe in ranked choice voting? I do. just curous.
Ahhh yes, here lies the rub. I'm not Democrat either. I'm independent and have voted for both parties. I have issues and concerns with Biden. Both the left and right seem very "niche" right now. The two parties (in my view) have lost sight of the people they serve. They are calculated manipulators and propagandists. Add the spin-doctor media, and we're in a bad spot altogether. Sad I have to read everything from BBC to feel I am catching both sides of what is going on in America.
I have never seen so much hate, animosity and unbalanced swill in my life and I find I don't want EITHER of them in my life. Two devils that are departed from the truth. I usually keep this bottled up inside. I have close and loved friends and family across the spectrum. Most everyone is at least weary.
Time for a (political) divorce on my end. A third party won't even happen until we/I make a third choice. I recognize it may be spitting into the wind.
You conveniently glazed right over this one, which covers just about every anti-Trump post on PS, but whatevs. :wavey:
Well maybe some missed the symbolism but the alt right who actively supports him, did not miss it. Hate crimes on Jewish, black, Muslims and basically anyone considered "other" increased significantly after Trump was elected. From church and synagogue bombings and defacement of cemetaries, attacks on people. when apprehended many mention trump specifically or Trump's words. In the same way, assasination attempts on Obama, his wife and girls increased after Trump kept repeating the false but inflammatory statement he was not born in the US and a Muslim. Words CAN kill. https://www.google.com/amp/s/theconversation.com/amp/hail-trump-salute-recalls-a-powerful-message-of-hate-69762. It is disturbing but I do urge people to watch the national policy institute video.
I'm a child of the 60s, I heard about WWII all my young life, I grew up with Jewish kids, so I saw antisemitism in full force (being catholic). I think Trump campaign may have known what they were doing. It's up to all of us to read and educate ourselves on what subtle signs mean. It doesn't mean I think someone who is their 30s would know as much as I do about WWII. (altho my dad was in the south pacific the whole war). For Jews this dog whistle is very loud whether someone is uniformed in the campaign or not, wouldn't it just have been easier for some rep to say, "we really didn't know, we apologize and we are changing it".... I'm sure people in their 30s know a lot more about their wars and their milestones but hopefully the people who are running this campaign understand it was a dog whistle and never do it again. If a person is not aware, that's fine, then a person can read about it. I seriously don't know a hella lot about WWI and have been watching Netflix etc shows on it. Live, and learn no biggie.
Or, of course, perhaps it's real outrage over the daily barrage of insults, stupidity, unhinged twitter rants, civil rights grabs, crooked cronyism, racism and general hatred emanating from the White House? Over 60% of the country is in agreement that it's people like you who are swimming in denial without asking why. And no, you didn't open the dam, but you sure as hell threw yourself over it. Unfortunately, you're grouped in a way that gives you a disproportionate amount of electoral power.
Now I'll count to three and wait for one of your wailing posts about the incivility of the left...
I would vote for the green party, if it was a viable party, because having a united action to combat and address climate change and other environmental issues is for me the most pressing issue. So for me I will vote for the candidate who (re) signs into the Paris accord. I have children. I want them and their children to have a decent future even if that means sacrifices for my generation.
I doubt Trump was hanging out with his creative advertising team one afternoon and proposed using this symbol. That's just not his speed (he's not a details kind of man).
Maybe not. But then why not come out and soothe and unite? He could say he's sorry and it was an unwitting mistake and sincere apologies to everyone who found it offensive and/or disturbing. What would he lose? Because he'd alienate the racist, anti-semitic bigots he was messaging. That's why.
No need. People are already well aware the left is largely lacking in civility among other things; it‘s on display here daily.
Is that 60% stat from the same pollsters who promised the Great Blue Wave in 2016?
Bayek, I like that idea very much for state primaries. However, I think nationally we still need the elective college.
I’m just curious to the trump apologists on this thread- how overtly does he need to pander to nazis before it’s a problem?
Ummm...6? 3? Are you going to give us the answer?
PS-As far as whether Herr Trump designed the logo himself out of an erudite understanding of the minutiae of Nazi insignia, please remember that this is the same man John Bolton just told us thought Finland was part of Russia and was unaware that the UK was a nuclear power. In other words, his brain is addled or his IQ low, or both. I cannot see him as an expert on Nazi insignia.
See, this, above? It's the textbook definition of incivility. Anyone who disagrees with you is tiresome. They're virtue signalling. Their outrage is faux. They're incapable of thinking more deeply than "Orange Man Bad".
By the way, it would be interesting to do a search of your posts. I suspect that amongst the shoulder deep piles of fact-free, snarky, passive-aggressive, meme-laden verbiage (which by the way is stuffed full of all caps, italics, incorrectly used single quote marks, italics and incorrectly used single quotes in the same word), the words faux outrage and false outrage would make a lot of appearances.
I can tell you, the outrage is real and it's based on fact.
And as for the blue wave of 2016, I don't really remember that. 2018 there was a blue swell, but that of course was because the electoral college system was taken out of the equation. You do remember that he lost the popular vote, right?
Well, I guess I've been uncivil enough to have fulfilled my leftist quota for the day. Have a nice weekend.
All I can say, people I know personally, who are jewish, African American, Asian, have expressed they feel less safe in the current political environment. One was spit on, just going about her regular business! I am not going to discount their feelings and experiences. It's not all on Trump's shoulders. But he has added to the problem. He's not being a leader. A leader bridges divisions, not increases them. I fully believe if there was another person in office the degree of protests and the amount of rioting would have been less, because there would be someone in office with enough humility and compassion to say at the start "I'm listening. I hear you". And work to create solutions. I want to move past this, to a better America. Don't we all?
Here is an example of Trump making the environment less safe for Asian-Americans (and Asian visitors to the United States).
@jaaron The fact that the usual cast has ‘liked’ your ranting opining about my use of quotes, caps, and italics but not one - including you - has commented to acknowledge de Blasio’s blatant anti-semitism (or even refute it and why) validates my assertion the outrage is faux, and the virtue signaling is stronnnnnnnng! It is all ‘Orange Man Bad’ ... all day long.
Because it's a red herring and an attempt to divert from the issue of agent orange and the purpose of the ad. Start a thread for the topic if you want to or address it in the anti-semitism thread. You're proving the point that people who rely on logical fallacies undermine their credibility through erred reasoning and flawed logic.
Imo you are trying to provoke to either get this thread shut down or to get admin to prohibit these types of discussions (You complain about them a lot yet still participate in them). In light of that, I'm finished addressing your illogic and hoping that others do the same.
