Hi there,

I've been looking to buy an engagement ring for the last little while, but never really got around to looking seriously until now. At first, I thought it'd be a piece of cake to find a ring, but boy am I wrong. I've spent the last week reading about all the different things about diamonds but I'm still not comfortable looking for a "good diamond".

Hopefully, someone can assist me in choosing a diamond. I'm looking at purchasing from whiteflash (I've already found a setting I like) and looking for the following settings:

8k-9k maximum price
Princess cut
1.2-1.3 carat
D-H
IF-VS2
Ideal, A cut above only
Ideal to very good polish and symmetry
depth % < 76 (i've read that the depth should be < 76)
table % < 71 (I've read that table % should be about 5% less than depth%)

This gives me about 12 results and they all look good to me. The Idealscopes all have very minimal white areas (are the black areas bright spots ie, the shiny sparkles?). The ASET all look fairly okay, decent amount of read in it (what exactly does the blue mean).

For the pros out there, are there any in that range that stick out to you as looking nice? I'm looking for recommendations as I can't decide at all.

Comparing these 2, why is there such a huge discrepancy in Carat for similar price?

The larger one on the right actually looks better as the IS image shows that there is less leakage and larger brightspots. The ASET looks fairly similar as well, similar amounts of red

One is a VS1 and one is a VS2. The VS1 is cheaper per carat than the VS2 and bigger, so put it on hold!

Truthfully either one of those would be good, the second one looks better on paper with the VS1. Just keep in mind that two diamonds of the same exact 4 Cs can still look a lot different in person. That is why they can be different prices with the exact same specs.
