Need helps from the Tiffany experts!

Found a ring for sale and on the Tiffany certificate dated in 1980 says "extra extra river" color. Can anyone tell me what it means in the GIA term (e.g D,E,F,G,H,I, etc). I asked many people and got no answers. I really hope that someone here has the blue book printed around that period so I can find out. I will also send the ring to GIA for valuation because the stone may not be the ''original''.

Thank you so much!

Never heard of this before. Is this a fancy colored diamond??

I hope this helps!

http://www.diamondregistry.com/dgrade.htm

"The letter, penned by Gemological Institute of America Chairman Richard Liddicoat, who was there when the grading system was developed, said that the old diamond grading systems — using terms like "top Wesselton" and "river" — had fast become commercially tainted. Retailers began luring customers with promises of "extra" or even "extra, extra, extra River stones," he recalled."

Interesting, please let us know how the GIA cert turns out. I''d also like to know what the translation for "extra extra river" color is.

I found this on Wikipedia. According to the chart. River correlates to D and E color. HTH!

Any of you have the blue book printed around 1980? If you do, could you please see if you can find what this mysterious color means - Tkxs!

Lat - follow the link that lisamarie found. Scroll down to the table and it tells you that river was a D, E or F colored
stone (in today standards). Extra, extra must be a D
