Thoughts on this cushion cut?

Hi all,

Relatively new to this - I'm looking to purchase in the next week or so.

Found this https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Cushion/GIA-Certified-2-05-Carat-G-Color-VS2-Clarity-Diamond-29SVY4

For the experts -

1. What are your thoughts in terms of the table/depth, and in particular the pavilion depth and crown height that's listed on the page?

2. Any thoughts on the ASET/Idealscope images? EnchantedDiamonds has given it a cut score of 96.9, which is below the 100 that they give to most of their diamonds - so I'm a bit worried.

3. There's a small inclusion - do you think this will be visible to the naked eye?

4. Any other tips?

Thanks,
Aaron

To elaborate (and quote Gypsy)

You cannot buy a cushion from the numbers alone

And, the Enchanted Diamonds cut score is virtually useless (the site is fine to buy from though)

Don't like that one. Doesn't have a crisp facet pattern and too chaotic for me. I don't have the knowledge to guide you on your search for a cushion, but I don't like the look of that one. I'm not sure how their cut score works for fancy shapes. Works fine for rounds but there is only so much the numbers from the report can tell you when it comes to fancies, so I wouldn't pay too close attention to it. They had some x-factor cushions awhile back that I liked the look of much better. Did you ask them about those at all?

Thanks Coralfish - I just watched the video and read the post you linked, but I'm still clueless as to why the diamond I posted is a bad choice? Could you elaborate as to why you think it's not the best diamond so I can look out for those issues in other ones I look at (e.g. with reference to the ASET plot etc)? I have a hard time distinguishing the different cuts, facet structures, etc.

Also, here are my parameters, could you / other experts recommend some diamonds for me?

$13,000-$17,000
Cushion
Eye-clean VS1 to SI1
Color F-G
Rectangular in shape ~1.08 to 1.15
2.00 carats or higher
Maximize optics

Thanks,
Aaron

Also, thanks pfunk - no I haven't asked them about the ex-factory stock, thanks for the tip.

Hi Aaron

Thanks for looking through the links. As pfunk explained well, In a nutshell, we look for crisp faceting, showing up on an aset as individual splintery or triangular events. We also look for minimal leakage. What we avoid are asets with vague, indiscernable faceting and leakage. In real life those diamonds have a mushy, dull appearance.

A good aset translates IRL to edge to edge brilliance in the stone.

Well-cut X factor type cushions are popular at the moment but not to my taste, though well cut ones are a heck of a lot better than most modern cushions. I prefer the 8-main myself.

You also have the option of hearts and arrows cushions (the blue Nile signature ideal cushion and the Brian Gavin signature cushion). They have the outline of a cushion but the faceting of a round and are very bright and fiery, but not classic cushions.

Think over budget this one but type into BLue Nile search box and click on gcal cert to view pic

Good old gold can source cushions in your budget but charge a fee for this if stones not in house. Then they'll shoot a comparison vid for you.

To start you off. I don't love this, but it is in the top few % of cushions

The only one I like on james Allen may not be eye clean. Smallish face up size and squarer than you'd like

Investigate these (type sku into search box on jamesallen)

Others will suggest contacting brilliantly engaged as they can source cushions and have a good bench.

Others'll be along soon with more suggestions

The issue is budget and ratio.

Most of the best cut cushions recently have been square. And your budget is low for what you want. You need to be in the 18-20k range for more options.

I'll look around you.
