First time buying a diamond, what are everyone's thoughts on them? Thanks!

Both stones would be a no for me, they don’t have complimentary angles.

What’s your budget? Are you buying from the US or abroad?

Agreed that I wouldnt choose either one. They don't have complimentary angles. If you tell us your budgrt and desired specs we can help you find a better option.

Thanks for your thoughts! I'm purchasing from the US, budgeting around 5-5.5k for around 1 carat.

What about color/clarity? Any requirements? For example, has she (or you) ever looked at a well cut I or J color?

Targeting a clarity of VS2 and above, with a color of G or above.

Reject BOTH stones for reasons already stated -- proportions are not complimentary!

Here is you an alternate choice.

1.01 E VS2 @ $5,688

56 table, 61.7 depth, 34.5 crown, 40.8 pavilion, 80 LGF & medium blue fluorescence (MBF)

Proportions are quite lovely on this stone. Looks like 4M has the cheapest price, but you can make ED price match if you find a setting you like better there. Also, ED site has a heart & arrow image for you to view. While not a true H&A stone, it appears to be pretty good.

One concern is not all buyers are okay with fluor. I don't see MBF as a problem, even in an E colored stone and it helps drive down the price for you. Risk is in rare cases, it can cause milky/hazy issues so you need to verify that is not a concern. Normally not a problem with medium, but rather in strong or very strong.
