Thoughts on Ritani diamond

Hi All,

This is my first post on this forum, so hello to you all! :-)

I was wondering whether I could get you guys' thoughts on the diamond in the link below from Ritani. I'm looking for something with as perfect a cut as possible, and ideally 1 Carat plus, but within a reasonable budget. I've had a look at BGD as I've read great things on this forum regarding their Signature range cut quality, but their diamonds have quite a hefty price premium.

Although Ritani don't have the same 'reputation' with regards to cut quality, I thought the diamond below seemed of a fairly high standard? Having said that, I'm very much a novice when it comes to assessing diamond quality, so your thoughts and guidance would be massively appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Its got good numbers. Have you asked them if it's eye-clean? Ask them if the feather causes any durability issues (probably
doesnt).

I'm interested to see what the prosumers have to say about this one. To me (hardly a pro) it looks like it could be quite good. The PS search shows a few similarly proportioned G SI2 stones ranging from $4800-$5400. So it looks like you are paying a premium for 1) the Ritani name, 2) the AGS scintillation report (never seen this before -- fascinating!), and 3) possibly the convenience of having the stone set by Ritani (unclear if this is the case). That said, this is probably right around what you'd pay for a similarly sized ACA from Whiteflash (maybe a little less - the only G SI2s they have right now are just under the 1 carat mark and are around $5600). If you are getting a break on the setting (or the cost of setting services) by buying through Ritani, you may not save that much by buying a stone separately. Overall it looks good (caveat below) but you need to figure out if the premium price is worth it to save the potential logistical hassles of buying the stone separately.

BUT with an SI2 my biggest concern would be is it eyeclean? Because there is less experience on the boards with Ritani, not sure whether they will give you an eyes-on assessment of this or, if so, how reliable it will be. Second inquiry would be to get an idealscope image (no idea if Ritani will do this). Although maybe the AGS report is sufficient on that front? I'm not really sure how to read it.

I would also find out about return policies and upgrade policies (if that is something you potentially may want) and compare to other vendors.

Hope this is helpful, and that some of the more experienced folks chime in. I'd love to see what they think about the price and the AGSL report, or if anyone has experiences with Ritani.

Thank you so much for the comprehensive reply! I've asked the question about whether the diamond is eye-clean and they're coming back to me.

I also asked for an eyescope image but they've said the AGS scintillation report should serve the same purpose. I do wonder how 'objective' that report is though!

I've had a look around and have another option with this BGD diamond. Smaller but I assume probably better cut? I've also managed to negotiate an 8% discount on the wire price.

What do you think?

The only drawback is that I much prefer Ritani settings but the logistics of buying a loose diamond and getting is set by ritani would be difficult and expensive given I'm in the UK!

Thanks again!

Hi there

Don't know if this will help but I'm also in the UK.

I bought a Ritani setting from the US and had my stone set by my local jeweller.

Hi dflondoner,
Thanks for this post as it is very timely for me.
I am looking at a diamond from Ritani with very similar specs and price as you described. The one I am interested in Has slightly better clarity and lessor color.

One thing you said which caught my eye is that you negotiated an 8% wire transfer discount with Ritani. When I tried to get the same discount, Ritani said that the purchaser returned the diamond you mentioned (although it still appears as "SOLD" on the ritani site. They said the purchaser picked a different stone and DID NOT get an 8% discount.

Wonder if you could enlighten me about what actually took place as I am having the mounted diamond sent for me to consider purchase.
