Hi!
My mom recently gave me my grandma’s diamond engagement ring from the 1950s. I have no certs or info on it.

I was thinking I could have the diamond made into a pendant or what I would love to do is maybe use the stone in a three stone ring. My concern would be finding stones that match. I’m not sure how well cut my grandma’s diamond is but it’s really sparkly and pretty. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Also, I’m uploading from my phone so not sure how clear the pics will be Any tips for uploading is appreciated!

It looks lovely! If you want to do a 3 stone and are worried about matching, have you considered pairing it with baguettes or different shape? It’s a nice vintage diamond and baguettes would be lovely.

Lovely ring and diamond! It looks like a tranny to me, but I could be wrong. I personally love it as is, but it will look lovely in a pendant or a three stone. I like @KKJohnson suggestion of different share side stones, or you can also use colored stones and not worry about trying to match the cut and the color, which might be tricky.

I really love it as set currently too! Photos are so hard to take of stones- I am awful at it.

I think it would look nice with two pear side stones or marquise sides if you went with a three stone ring. A pendant would be pretty as well, if you wear necklaces.

I love it exactly the way it is now, but if you want to do a 3 stone ring, I like the idea of using colored stones on the sides so you don't have to worry about matching.

It’s a lovely ring - looking forward to seeing how you set it

I think it is beautiful the way it is too, a simple and classic ring. What is your dissatisfaction with it? Too simple? What if you got some bands to stack with it? If you do remove the stone, I suggest hanging on to the setting. It's a nice thing to hand down to the next generation.

May I assume you do not want it to look an engagement ring?

First step would be to un-mount it and appraise it at an independent appraiser so you will have measurements and the 4 C's.

After that you may choose settings and side diamonds online, purchase the settings and side diamonds there and send them the center diamond for setting it is the ring.

I went through a similar process, here's the thread if it's at all helpful.

I wear the pendant I had made very often and I do wear the original setting which now has moissys as a travel/stand-in ring. If I was going to turn it into a 3 stone it would have been really difficult to match to the center stone so I would have done something like baguettes, pears, or colored stones. BTW I did not cert mine, I didn't think it was worth the stress of shipping back and forth and the expense as I'm not planning to sell it. If I change my mind, I can have it certed in the future.

It does look nice in its current setting but I'd say from my experience, put it in what you will wear. You have lots of options! Excited to see what you do with it!

Thank you all for your replies! There's no dissatisfaction with the ring, it just doesn't get any use! I don't like the look of an engagement ring on the right hand and I'd have to get it resized as my grandma is a size 9 and I'm a size 6.

If I reset it into a 3 stone I was thinking it would be one of the side stones, not the main stone so I could get more finger coverage :Up_to_something2: I was also thinking it could be set this way for a future engagement ring...maybe thinking too far ahead!

This is helpful! I was thinking of having David Klass use the center stone for a necklace too! His work is so beautiful. Also good to know you didn't get a cert on it either. I don't ever see myself selling the diamond. Did David unset the stone for you as well?

They unset the stone and also set the sim in the heirloom ring. I think it helps the process along if you have a good idea of what you want, I emailed photos and asked some questions and it was straightforward. The hardest part was trusting the mail would get there. ;)
