Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this OEC?!

Hi everyone!

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on buying this stone from Love Affair Diamonds (Hi Erica, if you're reading!):

http://www.loveaffairdiamonds.com/on-hold-2-21ct-old-european-cut-diamond-gia-m-vs2/

It's an M VS2 with a 43% table and 61.9% depth. It measures 8.48 x 8.31 x 5.20mm

Any advice on its looks, color, etc. would be appreciated. It's really right at the top of my budget, and I love its size, but I'm concerned about its warmth.

Thank you thank you in advance!

p.s. It will be haloed with dark blue calibre-cut sapphires.

I'm no expert but I think it looks beautiful!

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I'm no expert either, but I think it's absolutely beautiful. There's something about warm colored OEC's that is very romantic and lovely to me.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

Well, I ordered it! I still have time to decide once it arrives, so I'll post pics...

So exciting and scary!

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

How exciting! The setting you describe sounds gorgeous for that stone!

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

That's exciting, can't wait to see photos! :appl:

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

It looks beautiful. I hope you fall in love when you see it and post tons of photos!!!

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

Gorgeous! I have an M OEC, and I adore it! I hope it's your dream diamond when you receive it.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

Do you like it? Really beautifully cut stone but it depends on if you can live with the colour - I can see a tint in the photos.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

For me the tint is what makes an OEC gorgeous and gives it multiple personalities...
Sometimes mine looks white, sometimes lemony yellow, while at other times there is a coppery background to the pastel flashes.

I think i just need to see it in person to know. I know that I'm completely comfortable with J colored stones, but this is a big drop in color!

The question will really be: do I go with over 8mm in a warmer stone, or under 8mm in an I or J? As I mentioned, I love the finger coverage (I wear a size 7, so I need it!) but don't want to be constantly second-guessing the color.

I think it's a beautiful stone! And I agree with you, you really won't know how you feel about it until you see it in person. I would just say to check it out in a variety of different lighting conditions (in the sun, shade, low light, at work etc).

Let us know what you think!

You'll probably second guess it either way. Should have went whiter and smaller or should have went bigger and live with the color. Then you'll have to upgrade again. =)

If you're color sensitive then the M might not be to your liking. it also depends on how you mount the stone. Like others I think OECs in the k-m range are fine. It helps to accentuate their broader color flashes. The dark blue sapphire halo might make it look even more yellow though so it depends on if you like that color combo.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

Interesting. I hadn't thought the sapphires would make the M colored stone look more yellow. I thought they'd make it look a bit whiter, actually, in contrast against the blue. Definitely something to keep in mind!

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

My initial impression is: LOVE.

I'm in my office, under fluorescent lighting, but I also have a window and it's quite bright out, so two distinct lighting conditions. The diamond really is moody and changes color, but I might be ok with it. Fire is

I'll upload (not very good iPhone) pics as soon as possible.

Here are pictures!

This is the stone by the window, showing a lot more color.

More pics.

Looking whiter in the box and on the hand:

Side-by-side shots -- top is by the window looking more yellow, bottom is by my desk, looking more white.

Thoughts, everyone?

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

It wouldn't bother me, what do YOU think? Do you have any sapphires to put against it to see if it does make it look yellow-er?

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

To me it's gorgeous. Something that I love about warm colored OEC's is the chameleon affect in that it sort of changes shades in different lighting. It makes for a very interesting stone. I think with an M colored stone, you have to embrace the color and the warmth. If it suits you and you love it then score! If you'll constantly be wishing it was whiter, then that could make you crazy :).

I think it's a good sign that your first impression was LOVE!

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I'm back!

I decided the M was too warm. I'm now deciding between these stones:

http://www.loveaffairdiamonds.com/1-74ct-old-european-cut-diamond-gia-i-vvs2/

and

http://www.loveaffairdiamonds.com/1-91ct-old-european-cut-diamond-ags-k-vs2/

I think I'm finding I'm a higher color girl, so the K color on the 1.91 scares me. On the other hand, the 1.74 doesn't seem to have the fat, flowery facets of the 1.91.

In terms of size, would there be a noticeable difference between 7.77 mm and 7.94 mm?

Thanks again, all, for your help!

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

To give stats:

Diamond 1:

1.74 ct
GIA I
VVS2
7.77 x 7.57 x 4.93mm
64.3% depth, 51% table

Diamond 2:

1.91 ct
GIA K
VS2
7.94 x 7.92 x 4.91mm
61.9% depth, 54.7% table

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

You might find the K to still be too warm especially if you're setting it with blue sapphires.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

Oooh, thanks for that link! I love the size on that K... wish it were an I/J!

I think color IS important to me. I guess the question, in the end, is whether I go with the 1.74 I or wait for a bigger I or J to come around (whenever that may be) for a max stone budget of $15k.

The plan is still to bezel the diamond and surround it with a sapphire halo, so I suppose that will go a way toward making it appear larger?

This one is 2.24 H/I color VS2 ...the pictures are really bad, but you can't tell from the pic's. the setting is new so you
may be able to just buy the diamond....great pricing.
they also have a 2.10 I color

This jeweler is in LA...you could send it over to Single Stone and get their opinion on the stone...if it needs a slight recut to make it perform better they can do that too.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

Ok, here is a 2.64 J SI2 on ebay.

It is gorgeous! and BIG! I love this stone and the price is very good. $15,500
8.72mm x 8.56 x 5.56

Take a look at the video.

They will provide a grading report but the depth is around 64%

http://www.ebay.com/itm/311183852923?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

they allow returns if the stone is not as stated. they are in the UK but have a great reputation.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

Hmmm... I certainly like the size!

But buying from eBay makes me very nervous -- I tend to need A LOT of pictures, etc. to make a decision!

I'm leaning toward the 1.74 and its (to my eye) very white color.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I have set a J coloured stone with blue sapphire and find that they complement each other well.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I like the 1.74 - very pretty!
