Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this OEC?!

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I'd go with the GIA graded 1.74 I if you are color sensitive. An I is a good find for an old cut. It looks like a beautiful stone to me. The other stones mentioned have potential, but there's no guarantee the color will be as stated, I think you're better off going with a sure thing (GIA graded diamond).

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I suspected if you are not used to seeing colour that it might have been too much for you, lovely stone apart from that. Have you emailed Erica from Love Affair and Grace from Jewels by Grace, hassle them ask them what else they have in your price range that is white facing both just came back from Vegas with a stash of new things so it can't hurt to ask, this is how many members get first preference on new stones....

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I hassle Erica about 10 times a day :)

The K is white facing -- it's from the side I have a problem. I know that I'm not likely really to ever see that, but there's still something that feels more "mind clean" about having the I vs. the K.

I'm waiting to see if there are any slightly larger I or J (my color limit) stones hanging around.

Otherwise, I think the 1.74 I is a nice stone and would look lovely (and large) with sapphire halo.

Here is one purchased by a PSr and needs to sell bad:
8.4mm OEC J SI1 She will sell the stone separately for $13k

It is NOT an antique cushion but an OEC AGS graded stone from Jewels by Erica Grace
Here's the thread in PS:

Yes, I would sell the stone on its own for $13k.

Just so you know it is actually an OEC, not cushion cut (apologies for the error), and this was confirmed with the AGS certification

I see now she has it on louptroop for $12,500

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

Is it possible to get the K if you like it and see? I have a mostly white facing L yet I have seen Ls that are a lot more tinted and a stone described by Erica as a white facing J (which it is) which I was expecting to have marginally less colour overall (but it is still mostly colourless) and I had a small K AVC that was cream to off white and an inherited tranny that is a K and it's a chameleon sometimes it faces up fairly white other times I see a fair bit of colour.

Otherwise get the I and see if you like the cut pattern or if not then send it back and wait for something else, sometimes finding the right stone can be a bit of a waiting game.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I have both the I and the K -- the K is noticeably warmer, but that might be covered up in a bezel? I basically like the facets and size of the K and the sparkle and icy whiteness of the I. I'm in a little bit of a time crunch because my boyfriend and I would like to get engaged by September -- with a ring!

Does anyone else have thoughts on the 2.48 J for sale on loupe troop? Honestly, a 70% depth, even for an old cut, scares me, as does SI2, but I can't argue the coverage.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

With your budget you're going to have to sacrifice somewhere. Do you want color, coverage, clarity? Do you have a pic of the ring so we can get an idea of the sapphire halo? I like the K a little more than the I because of the facets and at that size they are pretty noticeable. If the K faces up really white then I might opt for it. You can use the sapphire halo to hide the pav so you hopefully won't even notice the color from a side view.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I think it's the age old dilemma of trading off what you want most size versus colour. If you can see a tint top down a bezel will hide the sides but it is never going to negate the colour especially if you are colour sensitive. If it bugs you then it will always bug you IMHO.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

The 2.48 J SI2 is nice and large and a great size even though it is 70% depth. If stones are too deep it causes nailhead but Grace does not sell diamonds with nail head. I'm not seeing any constant darkness under the table from the 70% depth. Some AVR's are in the high 60%. The faceting is very nice and about the SI2...it is eyeclean so no problem there.

The is a great stone for your budget. Good luck with your search.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

The 2.48 J might be sold. I emailed about it but have yet to hear back.

I'm going to try the trick of putting an aluminum "bezel" around both stones to see if I can actually see color once the K is bezeled. It's mostly from the side that I can see the body color, which might be taken care of with a bezel.

Re: Thinking about pulling the trigger!! Thoughts on this O

I feel your pain. I am colour sensative myself. I can't see an inclusion if you hit it between my eyeballs but colour, yes, I see that. :(sad I had a J coloured modern stone which I was ok with & had read a lot online here about the older cuts facing up whiter. I had considered an N coloured (GIA) stone from Erica (which started my OEC journey). While I had it on hold, I drove to a jeweller about an hour from me to take a look at a J, K & L coloured GIA OEC's. Well...I realized that even if the stones are old, my colour preference remained in the present. I still preferred a whiter stone. So while there was no way I could feel good about an N colour, I was ok with GIA J-K (max). I ended up buying an AGS I colour with fluoro & I'm quite happy with that. :wink2: I would say.. be open to a K. I would have been ok to buy a K & I could see the tint face on & not just from the side. I feel envious that a lot that have lower colour stones cannot see the tint or their eyes prefer it. Heck, sure would be cheaper wouldn't it?!

In my opinion, if you are colour sensitive with modern cuts, you will be with older cuts. I really tried hard to like the lower colours. I really did. In the end, my eyes, & my mind, knew what I should choose. :sun:

Try a K, you might be pleasantly surprised. :naughty: Edited to add a 2nd time...I'm currently having a setting made with a platinum bezel & G-H coloured melee so don't be scared of bezelling a J-K. Will be absolutely fine. :wink2:
