Ok, I’m finally posting this girl. Don’t take that to mean that I know what to do with her, though.

There is truly nothing like antique Tiffany, and this setting did not disappoint. The DETAIL, the sparkle, the presence - it’s all amazing.

I reached out to a few IG sellers to inquire about stones, and they told me it will be next to impossible to find an existing gem that fits perfectly without custom cutting. The listing says the seat measures 13x9.5mm for reference. So I reached out to Sako, who was like, yeah, we can cut whatever you want for this! But WHAT is the question…

It goes without saying that an old mine would be incredible, but I would wear this as a right hand power pointer. I considered having a lab cut for a moment, but I decided that a setting like this should rock something true to the period (or thereabouts).

So my next thought is to look at aquamarines, as I agree with @lavenderdragonfly23, who first discovered this beauty, that a gorgeous blue would compliment without detracting from the actual work of art that is the setting. It could also be a fun nod to Tiffany’s iconic color, even if not exact. I haven’t gone back to Sako yet, as I’m still noodling - and saving every piece of aquamarine jewelry on TRR that has a stone that could potentially be cut for this…

All of that said… I’m still deciding if I keep her or put her up for grabs. As you’ve probably gathered by now, I find myself grabbing pieces that I adore, and I probably have more than I need… if that’s such a thing. :D She wasn’t cheap, but I do think that it was still a great deal considering what this is, and with the right stone would make for a VERY special piece.

Here is a video and some photos. Please share all thoughts and suggestions!!!

I would love a cabochon in this. Moonstone. Or perhaps aquamarine cabochon! Amethyst. I just think a huge gumdrop would compliment the piece and era, keep costs low, and allow the setting as the star…. Dooooo eeeeeeet.

Omg yesssssss …. I totally should have kept this baby secret and bought her for myself :lol::lol::lol: … seriously I’m so incredibly happy you have her and we get to see her transformation. Seriously, the most incredible setting I have ever laid my eyes on.

This setting is honestly so gorgeous you could wear it as is, without a stone - lol! There is only one solution here, aquamarine lol … every once in a while I think, hmmm a pink/orange paraiba sapphire … but then I quickly come to my senses and it’s aquamarine.

So excited to see what you decide, so many congrats on this!

I hear you on the cabochon, and appreciate a budget friendly option! I have yet to see a moonstone that really strikes my fancy, but perhaps I just haven’t seen enough of them, or maybe just not a nice one! Do you think DK could source options for something like that?

I know, a pretty aqua with a gorgeous cut would be outstanding. I still feel like this is your ring tbh. I’m going to see if I can get in with Sako or DK, or someone who might have some stone options to drop in just to get the visual. And then I’m going to make a call on whether to keep this puppy in May!!

I agree an aqua would look great. I been watching this one forever:

This is a gorgeous shade! If only it were slightly longer! That’s the other thing, I want a really beautiful shade of blue… I typically go for more subtle vs. bright, but open to whatever suits this best!

Moonstone is very subtle so I get if you aren’t keen.

I’m sure DK found source whatever you like and probably arrange the recut so it fit.

If your budget can accommodate a sapphire cabochon would also be dreamy. Or emerald!

I love the idea of having Sako and his dad do this… I’m guessing they work in the same building? Either way, it would be very easy to have them toggle back and forth if needed to cut the stone cut perfectly for the setting. I’m not sure how much his dad is working - or his age, but it might be kinda beautiful to have a piece they both worked on together

When Sako was rehabbing my victorian turquoise, if it didn’t survive the repolishing, him/his dad replacing it (custom cab) would have been the ‘easy button’ next logical step. They had some good looking material on hand at the time Iirc.
I’d be curious what other material they have ‘easy button’ material on hand available to cab. High dome? Sugarloaf?

I am usually not a big setting girl, usually drawn to simple solitaires or very little "extra" but this is one of my all-time favorite settings. I cannot WAIT to see what you do with it and agree that it should be a contrasting stone so the uniqueness of the setting stands out. Love, love LOVE!!

I am team aquamarine all the way! That color, as close to Tiffany blue as Mother Nature can produce, would be the perfect compliment to this stunning ring!

I know you said you've been buying a lot of things and something has to go, but this is once in a lifetime! I also have my eye on an antique Tiffany and keep having to remind myself that I can't spend 10K on it even if it is once in a lifetime. You have your once in a lifetime piece, keep it! And since you can't keep them all, sell the butterfly setting... to me. :lol-2:

I like the idea of an aquamarine, but that amethyst autumngems posted would be my top choice. :kiss2:

This I knew i had one to fit. Its a buff top Amethyst, 2nd picture is terrible very pretty stone.20250425_202956.jpg20250425_203153.jpg

Oh wow, I was not expecting you to pull this rabbit out of your hat!!! That is beautiful. I’m adding this to the list, I hadn’t even thought of this shade! Thank you for digging, I really appreciate it.

This is great to know. I’m going to see if I can get in to see him sometime in the next few weeks. He was honestly my first thought, just because it feels like he could do right by this project! Thank you for sharing, this is such helpful info and perspective.

Wow, that says a lot! Thank you for chiming in, I know this is very special!!

I think you’re right. My favorite color aqua is probably a lighter shade or cornflower, but I had the same thought about Tiffany blue. I found a stone in a different piece of jewelry that is probably closer to what you’re envisioning. It’s not cheap, and it would lose quite a bit of carat weight being cut down, but I think it would achieve the “ode to Tiffany” look that could be pretty epic…

It is special, right?? The game we play trying to justify a big spend vs. owning a dream piece is a tricky one. I think the fact that I took on three “projects” all at once with these settings is making me feel a bit overwhelmed. I’ve never done this before, it’s usually a complete piece that I fall in love with, so it’s easier to make the jump. I think going to see Sako and maybe DK will help so much - I’m looking forward to that step!

And about the butterfly… I didn’t expect that one to be such a hit! It’s going to be the hunger games around here if she does hit Loupe Troop!!! Hahaha

Well, that just made my heart sink.I have loved the Beautiful Butterfly since it came up at HA. I saved a screen shot and look at it every day . I wish I had bid, but that ship has sailed. The whole auction process was so daunting to me and I was sure there would be so much competition that I would not stand a chance of winning. I did call first dibs on her but I know that doesn’t really count. Wherever she goes, or if she stays with you, I hope she will be cherished. You have amassed a stunning collection in a very short time.

I know you did, it was just a little joke. :) I hope to have more clarity once I sit down and actually get some gemstones in front of me! Thank you for the kind words, I think I’ve just been lucky enough to stumble upon some amazing pieces so far this year!!

@autumngems is your email on loop troupe? Thank you!

Just to add a different point of view…

I have ‘remodelled’ lots of rings, and enjoy the hunt for the right stone that will fit. I am attaching pictures of some blues that are all setting + gemstone = fun!

I have never cut a stone to fit a setting, and would do so if a repair was needed. DK has been my hero, setting my gemstones into found settings. I have good luck on EBTH as well as the usual haunts.

Interestingly, these blues and one green are all cabs. I really do have faceted ones, but they are not so big and blue.

Stones are chyrsophrase, moonstone, turquoise, paraiba, turquoise, same moonstone, and chalcedony. Sources local retailer, EBTH, EBTH, Yvonne, local retailer, EBTH.

I think turquoise would be the iconic Tiffany color!

You are very sweet, and I completely understand. I admit to being totally obsessed with Beautiful Butterfly. ❣️
I may not even be able to meet your asking price, if the opportunity to buy ever presents itself. School teachers , especially retired ones, don’t have deep pockets!
I’m willing to wait but I don’t want you to part with any of your beautiful pieces, only to have regrets later on. I’m just thinking that, if I had your amazing collection, I would wear Tiffany and your avatar ring 24/7 and everything else would just stay locked away!
P.S. pictures one and four of the colored stones , either one, are just perfect for her!

Thank you for this!! Wow, what beautiful shades - they are all gorgeous! Ive always been such a diamond girl, so this is very new territory for me. Even with colored gemstones, I’ve always been focused on faceted cuts, and cabachons weren’t really on my radar. I do see their appeal the more I’m exposed to them, though - they’re very happy stones!

And thank you for the DK recommendation and experience. He is local to me, so that should be my first stop!

All those setting @Mrsz1ppy pisted make me lean heavily to a blue juicy cab! Turquoise would be amazing too. But you have so many options really. Please complete this ring!
