Ok, I’m finally posting this girl. Don’t take that to mean that I know what to do with her, though.

There is truly nothing like antique Tiffany, and this setting did not disappoint. The DETAIL, the sparkle, the presence - it’s all amazing.

I reached out to a few IG sellers to inquire about stones, and they told me it will be next to impossible to find an existing gem that fits perfectly without custom cutting. The listing says the seat measures 13x9.5mm for reference. So I reached out to Sako, who was like, yeah, we can cut whatever you want for this! But WHAT is the question…

It goes without saying that an old mine would be incredible, but I would wear this as a right hand power pointer. I considered having a lab cut for a moment, but I decided that a setting like this should rock something true to the period (or thereabouts).

So my next thought is to look at aquamarines, as I agree with @lavenderdragonfly23, who first discovered this beauty, that a gorgeous blue would compliment without detracting from the actual work of art that is the setting. It could also be a fun nod to Tiffany’s iconic color, even if not exact. I haven’t gone back to Sako yet, as I’m still noodling - and saving every piece of aquamarine jewelry on TRR that has a stone that could potentially be cut for this…

All of that said… I’m still deciding if I keep her or put her up for grabs. As you’ve probably gathered by now, I find myself grabbing pieces that I adore, and I probably have more than I need… if that’s such a thing. :D She wasn’t cheap, but I do think that it was still a great deal considering what this is, and with the right stone would make for a VERY special piece.

Here is a video and some photos. Please share all thoughts and suggestions!!!

I would love a cabochon in this. Moonstone. Or perhaps aquamarine cabochon! Amethyst. I just think a huge gumdrop would compliment the piece and era, keep costs low, and allow the setting as the star…. Dooooo eeeeeeet.

Omg yesssssss …. I totally should have kept this baby secret and bought her for myself :lol::lol::lol: … seriously I’m so incredibly happy you have her and we get to see her transformation. Seriously, the most incredible setting I have ever laid my eyes on.

This setting is honestly so gorgeous you could wear it as is, without a stone - lol! There is only one solution here, aquamarine lol … every once in a while I think, hmmm a pink/orange paraiba sapphire … but then I quickly come to my senses and it’s aquamarine.

So excited to see what you decide, so many congrats on this!

I hear you on the cabochon, and appreciate a budget friendly option! I have yet to see a moonstone that really strikes my fancy, but perhaps I just haven’t seen enough of them, or maybe just not a nice one! Do you think DK could source options for something like that?

I know, a pretty aqua with a gorgeous cut would be outstanding. I still feel like this is your ring tbh. I’m going to see if I can get in with Sako or DK, or someone who might have some stone options to drop in just to get the visual. And then I’m going to make a call on whether to keep this puppy in May!!

I agree an aqua would look great. I been watching this one forever:

This is a gorgeous shade! If only it were slightly longer! That’s the other thing, I want a really beautiful shade of blue… I typically go for more subtle vs. bright, but open to whatever suits this best!

Moonstone is very subtle so I get if you aren’t keen.

I’m sure DK found source whatever you like and probably arrange the recut so it fit.

If your budget can accommodate a sapphire cabochon would also be dreamy. Or emerald!

I love the idea of having Sako and his dad do this… I’m guessing they work in the same building? Either way, it would be very easy to have them toggle back and forth if needed to cut the stone cut perfectly for the setting. I’m not sure how much his dad is working - or his age, but it might be kinda beautiful to have a piece they both worked on together

When Sako was rehabbing my victorian turquoise, if it didn’t survive the repolishing, him/his dad replacing it (custom cab) would have been the ‘easy button’ next logical step. They had some good looking material on hand at the time Iirc.
I’d be curious what other material they have ‘easy button’ material on hand available to cab. High dome? Sugarloaf?

I am usually not a big setting girl, usually drawn to simple solitaires or very little "extra" but this is one of my all-time favorite settings. I cannot WAIT to see what you do with it and agree that it should be a contrasting stone so the uniqueness of the setting stands out. Love, love LOVE!!
