After much, MUCH advice & encouragement, yesterday I finally handed over my beautiful, sparkly 1.02ct D, VS2 pear diamond to my jeweller. The current setting was bent during heat treatment to replace the front claw, as per attached pic, and I have HATED it ever since. It is bent, the claw is bulky & it doesn't match the back two. Taking on board some comments from here about there being too many textures going on with my other rings, we have completely gone for the plain Tiffany Cathedral style of design. The shank will be exactly the same style, width & depth as my wedding ring (3mm wide x 1.6mm deep) tapering to 2mm through to 1.75mm towards the top of the setting. It will look like they were made to be together. There will be 3 claws, angular & not curved in any way, that sort of look like a blade from side profile, which will give strength to the inside of the head. The diamond will sit between 7 & 8mm from my finger, yet to be finalized. He is making 2 waxes for me to look at, as I need the height to clear my eternity claws, but cannot envisage how high it will need to stand. It currently is 6mm off my finger but is a tiny bit too low.
As you will all know, the whole process is lengthy & extremely costly ( he is a high end, bespoke designer here in Cheshire ) but I figured I should have done this in the first flipping place when I wasn't happy with the original basket setting, and so at least I know this time it will be completely made to my requirement, specifications & style loves. So as not to bother my very patient, very understanding husband yet again over this, I have saved my allowance (I am a SAHM) over the last few months to enable me to meet the cost myself. This is my thing & I am so excited & glad that the new forever setting is underway
The ring will be ready early December at which point I'll pop it in SMTB. And then I may gracefully bow away from PS for a while to avoid DSS as my husband would go potty if I ever became unhappy with my ring again!!
Thanks everyone. You are utterly invaluable
