The Official TTC Thread!

OMG CDT! Congrats to you! How are you going to tell your DH? I''ll be sending sticky dust your way!

CONGRATS!!! That''s so exciting! You must be having a really hard time concentrating on anything at work now

thanks!

Well, because i''m extra nutty, I ran back out after my positive to the Barnes & Noble near my job and bought the expectant father book (i forget the exact title). So i''m going to wrap it when I get home and have him open it! Not that most original, but I wanted to do something other than just blurt it out.

Awww, that sounds great! I bet he''s gonna be shocked!

peonygirl, I guess it was a little hard but I think it made it so exciting to wait! I bought some neutral clothes (FYI Old Navy and carter''s have the cutest) and knew that there would be cute girl or boy clothes ANY time. My first trip when I got back from the hospital was with my mom and we bought her a whole closet full of pink.

cdt, congrats! That is very exciting!!!

That is so exciting!

Ebree- Good for you re: making the appointment. Knowledge is power, right? There''s nothing to be scared of- and maybe you will just get confirmation that nothing is wrong, which would be a huge relief. And if not, there are so many millions of things that can be done these days, better to get on it, right? I have a friend who immediately went to a RE after she didn''t get preggo the first month (yes, a bit overboard)- but she just didn''t want to take any chances. Turns out she wasn''t ovulating due to thyroid issue- went on medication, cleared the issue up, then got preggo and is due in March. But it took a few months to sort out, so why not figure out what''s going on? I have a good feeling about you, though, and I hope you have a good appointment. Keep us posted! Oh, and have you thought about acupuncture? Just curious!

Re: caffeine- I am not giving anything up right now, but I am also not charting yet. I thought about it, but figured it would be hard enough to have to do it while preggo, might as well enjoy it now. But if I get serious and have issues, I would definitely consider it. I posted about my friend with bad FSH levels and she thinks cutting out caffeine, alcohol and sugar made a huge difference for her. I am trying to eat a lot cleaner- mostly veggies, cut out most sugar (save for that in my morning coffee! and in fruit and stuff).

RE: predicting the sex. I know a different version of what Fisher is talking about- stick a needle in the eraser end of a pencil, with a piece of thread through the needle. Hold the string above your wrist, so that the pencil is dangling above. The pencil should start moving of its own accord (really freaky)- whoever is holding the string shouldn''t try to make the pencil move. Here is where it was different- it should circle for a bit, and then either start moving sideways across your wrist horizontally, or up and down vertically. One is boy, other is girl. In between each one, it should circle again. And then will come to a complete stop when finished. Again, freaky. I have done this with tons of people, and the weird part is that people who have kids, it is always right on. Weird.

Amber- GRRR for you.

Life just needs to back the eff off you right now. You need a break. Sorry there is so much stress going on with you right now. Hope things chill out for you and your hubby. And I agree, bring your so-called black cloud around here anytime- this board is about the good and the bad, and we are here to share in the entire process. But seriously, even if you are "complaining" (which I don''t see it as complaining, just sharing), I love your posts and look forward to "hearing" from you. You are awesome and funny and a class act- stick around. Big hugs.

HI to everyone else, keep on trucking!!!!!!

YAY!!!! CDT...awesome news!!!!

AWWWW hooray CDT! Good for you for caving! Congrats Girl!
Take it easy, rest, relax. That''s your job from now on ;)

Sticky stickiness to you CDT!

Oh gosh cdt, congrats! I can't help feel a little jealous because I know we were cycle buddies. Do you have any ideas for telling DH? :)

Does anyone know how long of a cycle I should expect with an anovulatory chart? Most of the ones I've seen on ff have been 45-50 days. I have given up the idea that mine is just a long cycle with a late O. Every time I think I may be ovulating I just get disappointed the next morning.

DD-I'm going to use your post to check out some landmarks today. :)

ctd wow, that is really interesting about "giving up" to early! That is exactly why I love charting, because I just wonder how many women try for months and end up just timing things worng?

peony there are lots of charts with ovulation at the end of a long cycle, so it could still happen. I know you have been feeling really anxious about getting pg sooner rather than later (understandable!!), and you are in school which must also be hard, but if you have been feeling really anxious this month it can delay ovulation so that may be what is going on for you ... I know how much this means to you and all women TTCing, its just such a hard time! Fisher had a cycle this summer that lasted 60 days (pre-charting so she doesn''t know if she O''d), and I have heard of longer ones too on other boards. FWIW I have also read about women ovulating late (like after 30 days) and getting pg (search pregnancy, late ovulation, long cycle on FF). So it can happen. {{{HUGS}}} it will happen, these ups and downs are common honey, and you just have to persevere!

You guys are so funny with the sex determination thing. I'll take just about anything I can get at this point.
30.gif

There actually are pretty easy ways to determine sex in the first trimester that don't involve an amnio or wedding ring though. :) What comes to mind is PCR (polymerase chain reaction--a way of isolating and amplifying a specific sequence of genomic DNA) using a pair of nucleotide primers from some X-Y homologous region or the SRY (sex determining region of the Y chromosome). You could definitely have enough free fetal DNA in a smallish sample of maternal blood at 8 weeks or so. It would take few hrs to run everything. Come to think of it I already have all of the materials at work except for the primers, which would be about $8. I think I'm getting a little ahead of myself though.
9.gif

delurking to say...

My husband''s boss wanted to do this to his wife when she was pregnant... basically look for Y-chromosome bits in her blood to see if she''s carrying a boy before the boy or girl bits would show up on ultrasound, and test for certain genetic diseases or interesting markers while he''s at it. They do a fair bit of genetic screening in their lab, not that the bossman is typically running them these days! Let''s just say that his pregnant wife felt like science already had enough of his attention and was emphatically not interested in being a science experiment. She made him wait like everyone else for ultrasound gender-determination.

congrats to ms. cdt, while I''m posting! And best of luck to the rest of you on the TTC endeavor!

Aww, thanks DD. You really are a sweetie for sticking around and helping us TTC gals. I do have a lot on my plate right now--4 classes, working a tough job 20 hrs a week, and MCAT studying. Plus this month I had a bad cold near the beginning and my first round of midterms. It likely could be stress. I think that I can be better about minimizing non-TTC stress by getting ahead in my classes, but it''s really the fertility stuff that''s gotten me SO down. I''m usually a very happy person. I think I need to do a little CBT on myself, specifically a thought record. Are you the one who used to be in clinical psych? If not, you can ignore my last comment.

The good news is that my DH is very on board. He really understands all of the temping and charting stuff, and he wants to be expecting just as much as I do. He evens calls me at work to check on how my temp/OPK went. Like EBree was saying earlier, I just love this baby so much already, and I can''t wait to meet it. I just don''t know when it will be coming.

No way!!!

Yay!!!

So, what were your feelings when you first saw the line appear? Did you look again, thinking you thought you saw it, but it must not be there? Did you scream? Did you tear up and have to dab at your eyes? Did you already tell everyone at work?

I hope it goes wonderfully when you tell your hubby. I''m sure he''ll be so excited!! I think the book idea is cute. :) I''ve had my "plan" for how to tell my Pauly for ages now, and I bet I''ll forget and just let it rip when I finally know. That sounds like me!!

**
My friend at work who just found out she''s preggo had her first appt. today. She thought she was about 6 weeks along. WRONG!!! She is 9 weeks, almost 10. She said, "Well, I''m glad we''re pregnant, but I just had no idea I would ovulate that late in my cycle." Funny that was a topic of discussion today on this board, too.

Anyway, she came into work late today, pictures of her baby in hand. Such a cute little booger!!!

She got 5 different "poses." I wonder if that many is typical? One of them is the cutest; it''s like a side profile and you see two equally sized balls, stuck together. The head and the body. Aww!!! Just seeing her so happy made me shoot with happiness for her. Now that she''s "seen" and heard the heart beat, she''s all about rubbing her belly and all that. None of that til today, though. She said it just didn''t seem really real until she saw it with her own eyes. She said it was this totally odd experience, really believing her child is within her.

I''m so dreaming of that day!!!!

That is precious.

I''m the same way. I write letters to my baby. Not like every day, but often, when I''m thinking about ''em.

Paul thinks it''s cute, but in a funny way. He keeps asking how I''m going to explain a letter written to a child in 2008 who doesn''t come along (or even get conceived) until 2009. P-shaaa!!! My child will think it''s cute! (Or confusing, whatever...)

Ahh! Congratulations CDT!!!

You''re post anouncing your pregnancy is too cute! I''m sooo excited for you. Have fun telling your hubby! Best wishes to you both!

Congrats CDT!! O I can just imagine ur feeling when seeing that line....I wish that feeling for everyone here ttc...hopefully this is contagious n spreads in the ps waters ;)

Good luck cdt and enjoy this total excitment!!!

Cara, that''s funny. Almost sounds like something my husband would suggest, ''cause he''s the real scientist in the family. I actually don''t even know if I want to know the sex until the baby arrives, so I surely won''t be doing what I suggested. It''s just cool to think that I could do it so easily.

thanks for all the congrats ladies!!!! I''m still in shock! I took another test this morning just to make sure it was still real

I had my DH open the book yesterday and his reaction was priceless! He was like "You''re pregnant!!! Oh my goodness!!! I didn''t see that coming!"....and then he had tears in his eyes and we hugged for awhile...it was awesome! I had to laugh though at his line about not seeing it coming. What did u think all the BDing was for?
11.gif

He was kind of quiet thru dinner and finally like 2 hours after I had told him, he just blurted out..."I''m scared, but excited!!!" Too cute. Obviously at this point, we are both just taking it day by day because, well we have to get thru the next 2 months! Every little cramp or twinge I feel right now, scares me to death!

Thanks again for all the sticky dust! We need it!

Best of luck to you ladies! I know it''ll happen soon for all of you!

Ok, I definitely haven''t O''d yet. My temp for the past 3 days has been 97.3. Research still gives me crosshairs, but I really really don''t think I''ve O''d. Tonight will be the 7th day of the marathon and I don''t even have ewcm!
39.gif
I''m scared to stop the marathon though because I''m having such a hard time telling if I''m having wet cm or if it''s leftover semen. The latest I''ve ovulated in the last year was cd25. That would be next Friday! I hope we can keep this up...I have a feeling we''re going to have to switch to EOD soon.

Don't stress Robbie - this might just be a wonky cycle for you and you're body is just readjusting. BDing EOD could do the trick too.

Congrats CDT!!!! Many many sticky vibes heading your way! And fwiw, DH and I were totally timing things wrong too...assumed I O'd earlier than I did...and we stopped DTD before the time when I was actually O'ing. Charting is a pretty cool thing! Congrats again.

Robbie Good luck with the marathon. We usually don't start the marathon (or really, for us, it is more like a 10k - the Great Race, maybe) until I see some EWCM. Maybe slow things down until you see a bit of the old ewcm? Perhaps? I don't know. Also, I got my bfp on the month that we did it EOD...so that definitely works too!

Peony - I'm sorry about your long cycle. Don't give up hope!

NYC - I know you are in the TWW, anyone else? I can't remember. Course, I haven't had any coffee yet...so that is my story and I'm sticking to it!

Everyone else, hope you are doing well!

As for me - AF is wrapping up...getting ready to start temping and so on.

As for finding out the sex - We are TOTALLY finding out. And as early as possible! The way I see it, coming home with a baby for the first time is going to be surprising enough!!! Might as well know if I'll favor the pink baby clothes or the blue!

Girl switch to EOD until EW shows up or else maybe every 36 hours: morning day 1, night day 2, morning day 4, night day 5 etc. No need to kill yourselves! Even taking one night off can help make you feel ready again.

Blushing, I don''t know why I''m surprised, this is definitely not the first time my body''s geared up to O and changed its mind

Lysser, that''s the problem, I had EWCM, but now it''s gone. It''s not uncommon for me to gear up to O more than once before I actually do.

DD, I think we''ll probably be taking tonight off. DH just emailed me that he''s going to a friend''s tonight and I''m way to tired to be up past 11. This week has been exhausting! Hopefully we''ll be more in the mood tomorrow.

CDT, best of luck. I''m still so giddy for you...don''t be a stranger round these parts, we''d love to hear how you''re doing!

Robbie, take a rest, get a massage!

CD6 for me and DH and I are off to VT with some friends for the obligatory leaf-peeping. I can''t wait. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous and when we come back we can start the EOD mararthon, which I''ve already started prepping DH for: "now, on Friday, we''re going to have to do it in the morning before you leave..." I don''t think he hates me yet. Anyway, it will be good to get away from the computer for a little while (no offense ladies, I''ll be itching to get back!) and not think about TTC. Of course one of the couples we''re going with has been trying for about a year. I''m sooo tempted to ask my friend if she''s been charting but I don''t want to pry or open a touchy subject. I guess I''ll see if she brings it up.

Have a great weekend everyone!
