Awesome! I got that $2700 stone, did the wire transfer for $41 off, and saved like $196 on taxes in california! It''s like .85 carat but still 6.15mm or so, which is plenty big. Carat is a useless measurement unless you sell on fleabay!

Oh and that seller on ebay stipulated that if he returns the money he expects me not to leave feedback on ebay for him.. which is probably why I didn''t see any neg feedbacks on him-- he tried to cancel the auctions on me. Soooo.... i guess i''ll have to "direct" the ebay consumers to the story of lopsie fugs!

Ok now I need the band! Found the one my girl really wanted-- or something really close. Here it is.. for $350 (14k gold - picture looks like platinum or somethin):

here's the ring i am trying to match it up to... i'm not sure if i should go with 6 prong or 4. 4 matches this band but all of the jewelry sellers tend to scare my girlfriend away from it because apparently the stone will so easily fall out of the ring..
Actually there are 4 prong owners who haven't had any problems that I am aware of, it can be a matter of taste so if that is what she likes it shouldn't be an issue.

I don''t plan on leaving so soon! I will certainly be helping friends and family get their head straight when they are shopping for diamonds.. There''s a pretty good leraning curve!

let''s see if i can upload a pic of the band that is supposed to match the setting:

I am glad you will be sticking around!!!

And that is a beautiful band!!!

In 4 prong settings, the prongs are thicker when compared to 6 prong settings, which are thinner. So one setting (4 prong vs 6 prong) is not safer than the other at all. Platinum heads will not be a problem and is largely a matter of preference like lorelei said. Gold heads make up the majority of cases when prongs fail, in 4 and 6 prong settings... Platinum bends and gold prongs tend to fail completely. You will see a loose stone before a lost stone in a platinum head. I like 4 prongs because I really don't see a reason in covering a stone with too much metal. In the end, it is insured so why cover up the beauty :) Again, personal preference applies....

Drew- great new diamond!! Loved this thread btw.

I have a 4 prong setting and I have it checked every time I am in the states (just to be sure) and every time the jewelers have said it would take practically the jaws of life to get my stone out. (slight exaggeration) but it is very secure and for what it''s worth- I LOVE the 4 prong look

out of curiousity??? does anyone think its possible that this stone might be stolen? i mean, maybe someone tried to grind off some identifying numbers on the girdle? and the rest of it was done to try even-ing it out. maybe?
its just... i''ve never seen a diamond like this before. GREAT THREAD THO

making it an avatar is classic.

drewbot, thanks for sharing your experience with us, and congrats on finding a new precious.

Okay... so maybe some addict or teen stole it, hocked it (to a blind pawn broker), who then decided to file the number off (who would bother to NUMBER this thing??), and sell it on ebay.

I''m sure Fugly has a wild and varied history. But as John Pollard said in another thread: It''s fugly and ready to explode.

So I had to respond to the request for cancellation of these items. I think that I was a bit on the wasted side last night, and feeling philosophical... but the Gods of Ebay wanted a reson:

Case type: Cancel transaction

Case status: Closed. You declined seller's request to cancel the transaction.

Reason:

Exchanging goods for legal consideration is a transaction. Reality is measured in terms of events, where the forward tendency of time is subjected only to the observer; however, just as the diamond had surrendered to the increase of entropy of its carbon constituents of millions of years past, so had the monetary consideration surrendered itself to effect said diamond to be mined and cut. Could it be said that the money caused the chemical reaction to occur in the first place? Methinks not.

Case type: Cancel transaction

Case status: Closed. You declined seller's request to cancel the transaction.

Reason:

Unfortunately, reversal of the transaction at interest will not bring the diamond back to the earth in the form of coal. Instead, it will sacrifice itself to the laws of thermodynamics as we know them and invariably rearrange into an allotrope we know as graphite. Meanwhile, milions of years will progress as observed by Einstein's standard of event driven progress of time; however, could you depreciate the asset at a rate specific to a different observer? Methinks the IRS doth protest too much.

Much better than a simple "Item not as described."
