With the help of this group and the HAC, I ordered a 3.01 carat round diamond. The HAV score is 1.9. I asked the seller to send me a regular video (no magnification) when it arrived. They sent me the video above today. It doesn’t look eye clean to me and the brilliance seems under-whelming. Opinions/thoughts please. The GIA number is 2306636022.

I’ll attach the original magnified video as well:

Thanks in advance!! MK

Although the video is quite zoomed I think you may notice it with it being above 3 carats?

tyty333,
So even though it has a good HAC score, it really wasn’t a desirable stone? I was thinking the HAC was the ticket to great fire, light, brilliance.

Another question. When I have used the 30 free HAC calculations, how do I get more?

HCA tool should be used as a REJECTION tool only never for selection to narrow down choices. It’s unable to judge clarity and minor facets.

I think it’s more for weeding out not so great performing GIA triple excellent. Ideal scope and ASET are much more useful, I’m not an expert just what I’ve learned from being on here :)

Never use the HCA as a stone picking tool. It's a rejection tool only, and then you need to look as ASET, etc. I don't love the images on this one. Not horrible but not great either.

I’m sure if you post your budget, size carat and preference for colour/clarity someone on here can help you find better :)

Fearless,
My original post had my budget, color, clarity, Carat preferences. That’s how I found this stone that I bought. Someone told me to grab it. I guess he/she thought it looked great. This is a gift from my husband for our 30 yr anniversary. And I’m being very picky. I don’t want to settle.

I’m wanting a 3plus carat, round, I color (or better), SI1 or better. 28k budget. Paid 26k for this one I ordered. Has anyone had a chance to look at the two new videos I attached? I’d love your thoughts based on the unmagnified videos. Appreciate all the comments so far!!

Thank y’all!
MK

@MK Malone, personally I think it looks like a great buy.

The guest video shows it's nice and bright, and this is evident from the ASET, it's certainly reflecting light back. It isn't taken to show off fire, but just to show the diamond.

I think the inclusions have a good chance of being eye clean.

It's got skinnier arrows hence why there are clefts in the hearts. The hearts are otherwise reasonably symmetrical. The stone has also some significant painting.

This is not a hearts and arrow diamond, but it should perform very well. Considering your budget and carat, colour requirements, I'd say this is a fantastic find as a good compromise, between minor technicalities, and sticking to budget. I'd certainly give it a go. Can't find anything similar I colour with that price. Kudos to @ac117

Ps I can't see either of your other videos as they require you to approve viewers. You may want to liberate those restrictions to get more comments on them.

It wont let me see the new videos. It says I need permission.

Context is important in this post. Sticking to your preferred requirements in your original post, this stone is still a great option and worth looking at in person, not in a magnified image or video - you're not getting super ideal precision cut, but you certainly didn't pay for it. We could look for other options but something will have to give...increasing budget, decreasing size and/or going lower in color color.

Thank you so much for your helpful comments. Does anyone know how I can change the settings so that you can see the two new videos?

Can you see them now?

Also, I appreciate the two diamonds that were linked. Can you send me some more that are 3 to 3.5 carat, I, SI1 or SI2 (eye clean) that have hearts and arrows? I’d like to see the price point. The only thing I’m willing to change is budget. That might be what I need to do. But I’m also thinking this current diamond might be better than I thought (the magnified video shocked me, but the other two videos look much better). If I can’t share the videos successfully here, I can email the videos. Hoping that will work if this try doesn’t. Thank you!!!!

Oh, and what is “painting”?

This Is a good point. Sorry for not remembering the original request!

Using the search tool at the top of the forum, there are zero AGS 000 stones and only 11 GIA XXX stones (as of this moment) with Excellent HCA scores and within your parameters (but with budget stretched to $29k):
https://www.pricescope.com/diamonds/search?vendor=-1&branded=None&inhouse=-1&shape=1&minprice=1&maxprice=29000&mincarat=3&maxcarat=11&mindepth=0&maxdepth=100&mintable=0&maxtable=100&mincut=1&maxcut=1&mincolor=1&maxcolor=6&minclarity=2&maxclarity=9&minsymmetry=1&maxsymmetry=8&minpolish=1&maxpolish=8&min_cut_gia=1&max_cut_gia=6&min_cut_ags=1&max_cut_ags=7&minflourescence=1&maxflourescence=6&checkbox_panel1=,03&checkbox_panel2=&sort=&page=1&pageview=24&adv=true&days=100&cert_number=

Unfortunately, of them, only six fall within the PS-recommended parameters of Depth 60-62.4% and Table 54-58%:
https://www.pricescope.com/diamonds/search?vendor=-1&branded=None&inhouse=-1&shape=1&minprice=1&maxprice=29000&mincarat=3&maxcarat=11&mindepth=60&maxdepth=62.4&mintable=54&maxtable=58&mincut=1&maxcut=1&mincolor=1&maxcolor=6&minclarity=2&maxclarity=9&minsymmetry=1&maxsymmetry=8&minpolish=1&maxpolish=8&min_cut_gia=1&max_cut_gia=6&min_cut_ags=1&max_cut_ags=7&minflourescence=1&maxflourescence=6&checkbox_panel1=,03&checkbox_panel2=&sort=&page=1&pageview=24&adv=true&days=100&cert_number=

Of those six, only one isn't an SI2...:
https://www.pricescope.com/diamonds/round/3_01-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-8452129#

It has Strong Blue fluorescence but the VS1 grading is going to almost definitely be eye-clean - the plot on the grading report is pretty much completely clean under the table!

There is no video but I would put it on hold and ask for video and ASET and a gemologist to review the effects of the fluor for haze or 'oiliness' or any other negative effects as soon as you can, IMHO.

EDIT: There is a picture/video because it's also listed on USA Certed website:
https://www.pricescope.com/diamonds/round/3_01-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-8567094#
Looks nice to my eyes! and the 36 degree crown should help produce a lot of coloured fire.

EDIT:

If you increase budget to $35k, you have 21 stones to choose from:
https://www.pricescope.com/diamonds/search?vendor=-1&branded=None&inhouse=-1&shape=1&minprice=29000&maxprice=35000&mincarat=3&maxcarat=11&mindepth=60&maxdepth=62.4&mintable=54&maxtable=58&mincut=1&maxcut=1&mincolor=1&maxcolor=6&minclarity=2&maxclarity=9&minsymmetry=1&maxsymmetry=3&minpolish=1&maxpolish=3&min_cut_gia=1&max_cut_gia=6&min_cut_ags=1&max_cut_ags=7&minflourescence=1&maxflourescence=6&checkbox_panel1=,03&checkbox_panel2=&sort=&page=1&pageview=24&adv=true&days=100&cert_number=

but only six of them aren't SI2.

@OoohShiny

I have requested ASET and idealscope and more info regarding fluorescence on the 3.01 I VS1 round stone. It scores 1.9 on HCA. Thank you for your help.

Can anyone see any of the videos I have reposted?

Thx,
MK

Make sure you ask for the diamond to be placed on Hold (if they haven't already done so) to prevent another person snatching it up from under you (which does happen once stones are posted on the forum). :)

I can't see any of the videos myself - I get HTTP 403 for the first two and then a request to log into (all-seeing, evil ;)) ) google for the second pair.

@OoohShiny,
I have requested the images and a hold. Hoping to get great images soon so I can buy this diamond. Thanks for everyone’s help. Such good info here. I’ll post an update soon.

One more image to go with those hearts and arrows images above. The seller is checking but doesn’t know if this stone has ASET or idealscope images.

I love it more w each image :kiss2:

@lovedogs

Do you think these images make this a solid choice? I’m told it is eye clean. Video looks great! No florescence. Should I wait for more images, if they re available?
