Already started decorating for Christmas. I made this centerpiece using a pool noodle. Also made this wreath

I would have never thought to use a pool noodle....

I didn't do mine but you can use it to make wreaths too. I'm pretty happy with how the centerpiece turned out but gosh, I had to use a LOT of picks! :)

I'm working on his "ugly Christmas shirt" sorry its all I have. Almost done, just need to attach the collar and put buttons on. I'm cutting out a pattern which will be going to my niece. its a simple pattern and I'll get started next week.

I haven't had time to make anything for Thanksgiving. and I kinda gave in to FOMO because quite frankly I just wanted this stuff.

This is a Matte silk Charmeuse. The print on this is absolutely amazing. looks like real fur I will use as a lining. for what, I don't know yet.

This is an Adam Lippes cotton twill. I don't know which year the collection came out but very happy to have gotten this one (it was not terribly expensive either) only 5 yards though.

I'm bumping this up. My mom taught me crochet basics as a kid, but I went back to it last spring. I have a serious thing for yarn now!

I have made a couple blankets, I have a sweater I need to finish the sleeve on and I made a cardigan in about 2.5 weeks just with my train commute lately.

I have a book for knitting and all the stuff. That's my next thing to learn. I'm currently working on a top of Pima cotton yarn that's hand painted for summer.

I have acquired lots and lots of really different and fun yarns. I found a local alpaca farm near me and they basically go from animal to shop and everything is hand dyed. My husband even bought me a yarn winder for all the skeins!

I don't have a ton of photos but I do have a photo of the start of the top I'm making. The yarn is really pretty and soft because it's cotton.

The blanket for my stepson's dorm is done! It will go with his high school graduation gifts for May. I started it about 3ish weeks ago. It's wider than the photo, but we had a pile of laundry next to it! Our bed is a king size and it's longer than the bed. He's over six feet tall, so I wanted it to be long enough and wide enough. I think the colors are neutral and lean masculine. Hopefully he will like it and find it useful for his dorm room. It's done in super bulky yarn with a v- stitch, so it should not be too hot.

i envy the wool winder, i wish i had mum's

a question i thought i would put here if you good crafters wouldn't mind
how heavy are porcelian beads ?
ive never worked with anything like this before
im thinking a long necklace
just for fun
they are just so pretty

8 mm

They can be heavy and these appear to have a pretty large hole. If I'm stringing beads, especially gemstone type beads, I use a nylon line. Some can be particularly heavy when strung together, so its something you will want to think about.

When I strung these together I had to use 2 strands of nylon because of how heavy it started to get.

Thanks! My mother in law saw it and would now like blanket as well! It keeps my hands busy, so I don't mind at all. He will get it next week. He graduates this coming week!

I used to make beaded jewelry years ago. I would think about a thin cord for those maybe. The holes are big. You could mix with some freshwater pearls that are inexpensive or maybe some inexpensive lapis rounds?

That turned out really nice!

Finished my first pieces with the new bugs!

A vintage frame with a Pachyrhynchus gemmatus:

And a random goodwill frame with a Nemophas grayii and a few random beetles:

I know this post was forever ago, sorry! For the frames, do you just leave the glass out when you replace the art/photo with the bug since they aren't flat? Thanks for the explanation of rehydrating, very cool :)

thank you Elizat and @Arcadian
i guess a long necklace is out - i was worried that it would be the weight of a couple of dinner plates
but they are so pretty so im going to order them any way and see what they are like

at least if they become xmas decorations they will be easy to tread !

These are shadow frames, so the glass is far enough away from the back that they fit!

Apparently the stepson was very happy with the blanket. My mother in law and sister in law have now requested blankets as well.
