All,

I have been lurking/researching here on PS for quite some time now. I need to thank you all for the information you post here day-in and day-out. There is no doubt that you are doing a great service in educating others and saving people money.

I am looking for a princess cut diamond and I ''think'' the criteria I am looking at is as follows:

~1.25 carats
G
VS1 or VS2 - no problem at all with VS2 so long as it is eye-clean.

Quality of cut is very important, of course.

My plan is to work with one of the recommended vendors from this site. I have used the ''search by cut'' tool here on PS and there seems to be a couple candidates.

I have been to a couple B&M stores, but to be honest it does not seem productive for me. Sure, you can put a diamond in front of me with a 10x loupe and the GIA cert but I still feel as though I have no clue what I am looking at. I like having the scope images to view as well. I know enough to be somewhat dangerous I guess. The numbers and stats make sense, but I find the convenience and information available online allows me to be more productive with my search.

In any case, any recommendations on currenly available princess cuts from the recommended online vendors? I plan to call on any interesting ones located and get the opinion of the salesperson at that location.

Thank you again!

My first advice to you would be to relax.

I like the fact that you say that cut-quality is very important for you, but if you say that one can show you stones, and you have no clue what you are looking at, bothers me.

First, you need to ask yourself why you like princess-cuts. Is it the square shape and the way this would look in a specific design, or is it because of the way a princess sparkles, for so far that you have seen that?

Do also read this thread, or at least the start of it (it goes off-topic regularly), and ask yourself whether you prefer broad flashes or pinfire-flashes. This answer defines the character of your princess.

Then, you can start weeding out all possible stones, but do remember your preference on character.

Hope this helps,

Paul,
Thank you for the link. I started reading it but haven''t finished it yet. Lots to digest. I had no idea on the different flashes.

I am not saying that I would not see the flaws. I feel online is much easier for me to compare various diamonds with the availability of the IdealScope images and stats at your fingertips. That being said, if I were comfortable staring through a loupe and confident I could make the same decision of a gemologist (or experienced diamond nut) then I would not be posting on PS looking for assistance. I trust people here over taking it on my own with a local B&M. I know enough to know that I do not know enough.

My gf prefers the princess cut. She is going to wear it so what she wants is what she gets.

Thanks again,
Rich
