Tennis bracelet pointer differences

A quick one, in july I bought 4 carat tennis bracelet from IDJ. The stones are 8.5 pointers. I'm trying to decide if I think I want to go larger in terms of the stone size or change the setting.

I've combed through the variety of tennis bracelet threads. Does anyone have any good on arm distance shots of tennis bracelets (i'm 6.5 in terms of size but 7 is fine) in stone differences between 8.5, 10 or 11 and 15 pointers.

I am hoping to do some research at home in Boston and in La in the next few weeks with the general idea to go back to IDJ to do the upgrade.
I want a sleek elegant look but also some presence and I cannot decide if i just feel like its shrinking from the research or that I just want it with a tad bit more presence. I really love it as an every day piece, just have this nudging feeling I might need to adjust.

@LLJsmom I definitely used your thread a lot. It got me thinking really about if I should have gone a little bigger on the pointer size and how big does one go before they cross over to not casual. My heath is not doing great again, so I was trying to pass the time with this project.

@PintoBean This is what got me thinking. I saw your post which was super helpful. I was foolish when i went last time, I dismissed the 5ct because of price, not that that's wrong but I didn't take a hard look on the size of the stones or the overall look.

I am determined to figure out if i can go bigger some day...who knows when some day is...without it crossing over into too formal.
p.s. Pinto was thinking of you today, didn't have a great way to say sorry about everything your going through.

I think how a person carries themselves plays a part in how big they can go with bling. Some people just always look formal in bling lolol while others can rock bling with jeans and a tee no problem.

Thanks for posting this thread @giamari23, I'm also looking at buying a tennis bracelet and I've been deliberating between a 4ctw or a 5ctw. I want something I can wear everyday and also kiddie friendly. I have a soon to be 3 year old and I'd hate to lose the bracelet if I'm picking up my little one often. Does your bracelet snag on your clothing or the bracelet flip over on your wrist? I have pretty small wrists 15.5cm or 5.7 inches approx and also trying to work out the right length for me. The standard lengths are usually 7 inches and probably too big.
Sorry to thread jack, I'll be following your journey with interest. Good luck with your upgrade if that's what you decide.

@Sparkles88 Not jacking at all! I definitely have been so helped by this forum and everyone here and frankly pretty thrilled to have something to contribute. So I got an amazing deal at IDJ for 4 carats, with 8.5 pointers and I think the length is 6.5" but don't quote me I'll have to check later. It's a three prong. I tend to need a little less than 7 myself and I think I do prefer wearing mine shorter (initially I thought I'd like the length but it causes me less stress to have it closer to my wrist).

I generally find it turns only once in a while but I think its because of how light it is, which is something I really appreciated about it initially. In the past when I tried tennis bracelets on I didn't like the bulk that found in line bracelets nor did I think they looked good on me. The bracelet setting, whether dictated by the stone size, or just an effort to let the stones be the real frame, definitely is narrower. When @LLJsmom mom was on her construction journey I definitely appreciated thinking about, albeit after I bought mine, the subtleties in the setting design.

I find that it only pulls once in a while but nothing that I can't manage by prepping my sleeve if its a sweater. I had it on around my 3.5 year old niece and she loves touching jewelry and it was fine. I think the flipping is definitely one part weight of the setting and one part how much length you leave.

I tried on the 5 carat at IDJ but dismissed it pretty quickly and really wished I had taken the time to look at the size difference in the stones and the effect difference. I was on a mission for my mom and my bracelet was a happy surprise.

I think you're definitely right and I'm in some weird phase where I can't tell what my personal preferences are lately. I think I was just working against a bias from times when I tried on the line bracelets and it just looked dated on me. The three prong was the first time it looked like...fresh and a good compliment.

I am working from home more, which has been great and wearing my diamonds with PJS is definitely a hallmark of mine in my family. So there's that...but yeah I wish I had just taken more pictures. I will have to just go back to IDJ, and do my pre-pre-research in LA.

@rocks These are great! And exactly what I was looking for. Do you know how many carats your smaller one is? is it close to 3 or 4? I definitely like the look of your larger bracelet. Also your ring is gorgeous, I get such a satisfaction of out the proportions of your three stone.

OK that gives me something to work with, the scale and comparison is something I wish I had done on my own wrist. How often do you wear the larger one? Everyday use? How do you feel it wears with your ring set?

@PintoBean So I was going back through your thread, you mentioned earlier from your IDJ trip. I am thinking maybe I just should have tried on 10 or 11 pointers. I think part of this is I just want a little more spread on the surface of those stones. Though I noted you said you found the 3 prong delicate. I need somewhere in the middle I'm guessing. I like the 10 pointers generally, they are what I have in my wedding band and I find them substantial but delicate. Thank you for this picture, this is the stuff I don't even know I need info wise tis I see it. Hope you don't mind me reposting it here.

@giamari23 Thanks so much for your detailed reply, I'm still trying to figure out how to reply and work out how the forums work...lol
I originally thought I would like a 4 prong but the more research I'm doing, I rather like the look of a 3 prong, to me it looks a bit more modern and less formal looking.
I've been stalking the tennis bracelet threads for months, looking at perspective photos to see which size would suit me best. Unfortunately in Australia there's not a lot of choice, but I've narrowed it down to either a 4 or 5 ctw, I have small wrists so the size looks fairly substantial. There's not a lot of choice of design, mainly 4 prong line bracelets and the occasional bezel setting in Perth, I've not seen a 3 prong. I wish I could visit IDJ or Whiteflash and try on different settings. I think I would prefer a setting that feels substantial in weight but not too big and bulky, so I can feel the weight on my wrist..does that sound contradictory? I've lost a fine delicate bracelet before so I'm guessing if it's heavier I'll know that I still have it on.
Would you mind sharing with me your wrist size and the length of the bracelet, any photos would greatly appreciated too.
How lovely that your tennis bracelet was a surprise purchase, hopefully your mum found something she liked too.

@Sparkles88 I'll see if I can take some photos today. And see if I can measure my wrist. I think the tag on my bracelet noted it was 6.5" at least. I don't mind at all!

I know a lot of people here are very comfortable with working with IDJ from long distances, and without visiting. They are soooo flexible and very customer friendly. You might consider looking into them and asking around I know a few people have yet to meet them but have bought numerous pieces. I would definitely recommend reaching out to IDJ and Yekutiel, they helped me with mine and I definitely will be going back to them. I know others on here can probably also recommend long distance vendors and solutions to trying items on.

It was a surprise for my mom, I upgraded her engagement ring to a carat with hopes of keeping that going in the future. Months later she is finally at the point that she is happy and no longer upset at the money spent, it was a good deal! Also, she deserves it. Also, she just has to resist for a while, its her way.

A few quick pictures from IDJ of the 4 carat I went with, I am really annoyed I didn't take pics of the 5 on my wrist.

The smaller one is less than 3cts as I recall. The largest is over 6cts. Keep in mind that my wrists are tiny. The small bracelet is 6 inches long. Also, none of them flip. I wear them fairly close to my wrist. When do I wear them? Varies. I go through phases; sometimes daily, sometimes for occasions or out to dinner. Rarely during the summer. Also, NYC isn't as safe as it used to be, so I don't get as much use out of them as I used to.

My ring is alittle different now...the sidestones grew!

@rocks growing side stones sounds like a good problem to have! I love that look honestly.

OK good to factor in proportion of wrist to stone size and then how that translates to casual feel/formal. I'm going to try and just get a feel for the pointer sizes to my wrist and the length I wear it and see what if any adjustments I need to make.

I actually took the pictures for a tiny friend in the U.K. She was trying to figure out what size bracelet to get and had little luck shopping in London, even at Tiffany. She started with .08/.09 and then upgraded to one like mine!

I have a sneaking suspicion I'm heading in a specific direction.

No it's delicate to the eye but it's a sturdy setting. You can also ask them to attach a chain - I forget what you call it... like a backup safety... IDJ would know. I don't have it, but I've seen it on a friend's bracelet.

Ah! I see now. Thanks for the clarification!

Yup, it's called a safety chain and I have one - IDJ actually put it on my tennis bracelet! It has to hang slightly to allow enough room to open and your hand slip out, but it's short enough that it doesn't bother me.

Hi Ac117, does your safety chain get caught on anything? I asked my jeweler about one and he said that you'll be asking me to remove it as it will annoy me. I did think about having one as an extra precaution.

My mother has one on her line bracelet. It is a period platinum bracelet with 4mm stones. Has never been a problem and has served its purpose.

I've never caught mine on anything! I really thought I wasn't going to like having it but I actually forget it's there. I doubt I'd ever remove it bc I don't trust my clasp and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Thanks @ac117 @rocks and @giamari23 for your replies and photos. It's very helpful.
I hope it's ok to post here, rather than start a new thread, which I have no idea how to do
Could anyone advise how long a tennis bracelet should be to allow for some movement but not be too big. My wrist size is approx 5.7 inches circumference, most are a standard 7 inches which might be too large for me.

My wrist is 5.75inches. I like mine on the short side. They are 6.25 to 6.5 inches. The standard, 7 inches is too long.

I like the size to be wrist circumference plus two fingers under the bracelet - index and middle fingers.

My wrist is 5 inches and mine is 5.5, maybe a teeny bit shorter. I don't like much room and I hate it drifting down close to my palm.
