Temp Check

20F and snowing right now. So glad it's not -5. Also glad it's not 78F because I like to have 4 different seasons.

We won "Coldest Capital in the World" on Wednesday!
-38 c which is basically the same in f ... -36 f
Its currently -31 c with the wind chill.

Now that's we've got the trophy, please turn up the heat. :mrgreen2:

Curious for those of us in cold climates. On what temperature do you keep your thermostat set?

Currently I’m @ 79F downstairs and I keep it at 69/70 for sleeping upstairs during this cold weather.

In summer I keep at 60 for sleeping and about 70 downstairs.

Anyone else crazy different like that with temp setting in summer very winter? It’s like I’m a reptile. Cold in winter and hot in summer. So weird.

Our thermostat is at 65 all the time. We have electric heat so I keep it as low but tolerable as possible. Our electric bill for this month alone will probably run $550-$600 :x2

Missy, at 79 that would be like tropical vacation, shorts and t-shirts inside, can't even imagine.

Stephanie believe me I know it’s crazy. I’m rarely comfortable temperature wise. I think it’s gotta be a hypothalamus issue. Ive always been this way. Not related to menopause. It’s crazy. And expensive yes. My DH says forget the temp. Ignore the thermometer and Just make it comfortable for me. If only it were that easy lol.

You can have the cake! Lordy. Really cold and snowy today--but guess what?? Predicted to be -1 and zero next week. Only here can we get -25 one day and zero the next.

Honestly I can live without the cold...I'm just not build for it!

cheers--Sharon

@canuk-gal ,

Oooo, there's cake? :appl:
More insulation against the rest of Winter! :mrgreen2:

I'm glad its going to soar up to the balmy -1 c temps for you, Sharon!
Two reasons; happy for you, and happy because your weather comes our way!

I can't endure the cold like before. I'd be happy with shorter, milder temperatures.

Stay warm!
:wavey:

Ours is 68F in winter and 74F in summer. Everyone is wearing a sweater. We have baseboard gas heat which is more energy efficient than electric but heating bill is still $200-300/month.

I’m so glad to hear someone else is the same as me! I’m constantly over hot in summer and freezing in winter, far more than others around me seem to be. I seem to have very little control over my body temperature, and become a very unpleasant, sweaty mess on exercising regardless of surrounding temperature. Too much info possibly - sorry!

I really can’t complain though - London is a very tolerable 14C today with blue skies. I can’t even imagine some of the low temps you’re all mentioning!

My phone says -9C going down to -20C by morning. The important thing is that it's too cold outside for Murphy. He laid down to die today when he was outside. He dawdles a bit, gets too cold and then just lays down. Then he needs to be rescued, or he might make a valiant effort to make the 20ft journey to the door. :(sad

4 degrees here right now.

@lyra Is Murphy the little sweetie in your avatar?

I believe I read that -9 C is what it is here. I should go back and look at what the Fahrenheit equivalent of -9C is to see if I remembered correctly!

ETA-Yup. It was a balmy 16 degrees F this morning here. A heat wave. And the computer told me that was -9C. My Newfie, when he was young, would have thrived in this weather! By the time he got older, he did not love it as much! When we got him (in January 2011) it was 17 degrees F at night for three nights in a row and he slept outside for all three nights. He wouldn't come inside. This is his kind of weather!

@Calliecake , yes, that's Murphy in his cat bed.

@AGBF , those temps would be 15F to -4F. I don't have the windchill factor. The wind is blowing.

He is such a cutie Lyra!

Yup, my air conditioning is running.

Outside its quite a mild 9C/48F but went out earlier and felt freezing. My house has to be about 21C/70F for me to feel warm. That's about my ideal temperature.

Urgh, hate cold weather! We work in Celsius here in the U.K. & have hovered lately in Cheshire between 5c and -6c. Plays havoc with my hands & feet. We currently have snow.

Right now it's 21 and feels like -3. That is the warmest we will be for days.

How can 5 be a high?
Must be a typo.

I know Chicago gets cold.
Perhaps you meant 65?

No, HIGH of 5 is correct.
Right now it’s -1
Welcome to a Chicago!

House is set at 68 but I’m freezing so I bumped it to 72. I’m still cold.

@december-fire would you be willing to share where in the world you are?

We are going to Mongolia next summer (Summer! To avoid the time of year when the Coldest Capital City In The World earns its name!) - but for some reason I think you’re Canadian? ::)

Yes me too. It's nice not to be all alone Lissyflo though I am sorry you are experiencing this nutty intolerance to weather too. And I am glad London's weather is behaving for now. London is one of my favorite cities.

I love heated car seats for winter and ventilated car seats for summer. Gotta love those. Made for girls like us!

AprilBaby, It's almost balmy there compared to Chicago at times lol. We are back in NYC where it might be a *little* warmer but still a dire forecast. In the 20s as a high for at least the next 7 days with wind chills lower. Brrrr.

Was 86 and sunny out on Port Phillip Bay today :mrgreen2:20171231_090309.jpg

Jordyonbass if I didn't love you I might hate you. 8) Glad you are enjoying beautiful weather. We will be right there. You aren't allergic to cats are you?

Marcy who knew you and I would be sharing similar weather right now? The world has gone cuckoo. Stay warm girlfriend!

My dh likes to say my ideal outside temperature is between 71 and 71.5. But really it is more like 71.37.
8-)

13 degrees here. I was wondering why the living room temperature this morning was even lower than it was yesterday morning (although the thermostat is still set at the same point). I think the local temp is supposed to go down to 6 tonight. We have all become wimps here!

Deb ;))

@yssie , I'm in Ottawa, Canada! :wavey:
I love having four Seasons, although I'm finding the Winters are getting a bit too long and a bit too cold. Not complaining, though, because I think we're very fortunate overall in terms of weather here.
We're also well-equipped to combat the cold; heated car seats, fireplaces and hot chocolate!

Mongolia will be fascinating! I hope you'll share stories and photos when you return! =)2

@jordyonbass , wow! What a perfect day! So beautiful!
I melt at 86 f (30 c), but I suspect the breeze would help.
Is it a dry heat? The killer here is the humidity; both in the Summer and the Winter, when its a damp cold.
I love and need my air conditioning.

I love the snow. I’ll likely be moving south soon and I’ll really miss the yearly two foot snowfalls :(sad

Did you say 'house swap'!

I'll be willing to swap for a week or two so you can get your fix of snow. :mrgreen2:
You just have to promise to top up all my bird feeders, suet holders and heated bird bath. =)2
