I have a 2.54 q-r old mine that I will set probably in the next few months. I was thinking a target ring with rubies. I can do a traditional style like this:

Or something a little different:

I think I'm leaning more to the traditional, but maybe the second would be nice?

I was also kicking around having Caysie set it, but I don't know what setting I'd want- maybe the Clara. I also like this:

I think it depends on if this will be a ring worn occasionally or often. For a ring that is worn often I like the first one the best. Number two whilst gorgeous might snag your clothes or have misadventures to her pointy parts. Number three- also beautiful might be a bit ornate for casual wear. If the ring is not to be worn too often- disregard all the above and just pick out the one you keep going back to when you look at the pictures.

I really like 1!

I love the classic but also wondered, if matching the shape of the stone feels too boring, whether you could go for something like this?

I love the second ring! If I had one like that I’d wear it daily. What shade of ruby do you like?

Pic of all your rings?
Looking for more in line with what you currently have or to branch out?
In your comfort zone to feel comfortable knowing you will be reaching for it often, or ok with a fancy/playful mood sometimes occasion?
And post a pic of the stone!

I love the second setting! Is your old mine more round or more squarish?

Well, this should be interesting! I currently have my R-colored AVC in with DKJ to be ser into a target setting with rubies! What dimensions is your stone, @elizat? I think yours is probably substantially larger than mine: mine is 7.54 x 7.31mm.

BTW - I love all the ideas you posted!

Sorry for threadjack!

mrs-b can you please post on your thread more details?
Like what cut shape are you going for in the rubies?
Inquiring minds!!

Here is the stone:

It's very pretty in person. A bad office light photo I took:

I am ok branching out, but even when I do, it's a very specific look, really. Here's what I have minus some smaller rings that I like but don't get a lot of rotation- you have to click on photo to avoid fuzziness:

Thanks! I rotate frequently, so nothing gets super heavy wear. I showed the last one to a non-jewel fan and they said it looked very steampunk.

@foxinsox I thought about that too. I think that would be a good option.

@PreRaphaelite I prefer redder rubies- I don't like ones that are pink toned personally. I know ring two is more pink. I think I'm going to have to be specific on the color tone. I like the tone posted by @foxinsox

@tyty333 Thanks- the second is interesting, I agree. The stone is a bit elongated, which I like and is somewhat out of the norm for old mine cuts. It is 8.52 x 7.81. I think the elongation should be flattering when set.

@mrs-b my stone is a little bit bigger, at 8.52 x 7.81. It's funny you are doing the same type of project with a similar color! Mine is GIA v. AGS, but so I just have a range. It faces up pretty warm vanilla to my eye. It's pretty! Your project should be really lovely. You have a great eye. :kiss2:

I was going through my memory bank this morning and recalled that I loved a ring that Jewels by Grace had that the owner called Gilda- it was an oval though. CJD Sako has made a replica setting of it- his replica is below... I have asked if he is still doing them. It's an antique piece, so it shouldn't be a problem (I would not think). I think it might be really nice with rubies and a mix of a traditional setting, with the curves of setting idea number two!

With your gorgeous collection as a guide
I’d pick one of these shapes as inspiration
With rubies would be divine.
Your new OMC is

@elizat - thank you so much! I love your diamond and think your new project wil be awesome! I'd love a larger stone, but this was a whim purchase.

I'll be following this one with interest!
