I am strongly considering contacting Whiteflash to see if they would buy my diamond studs so I could replace them with ACA’s. I’m wondering how the process works in terms of time. Specifically, once you send in your diamonds how long until they say yes or no? How long until they come back with an offer? How long does it take to receive the new earrings? And is it possible to purchase the new earrings before sending in the diamond studs and then have the trade-in price credited back to you? (That way I don’t have to be without any studs )

Hi iLike,

Probably best to ask them what their lead time is at the moment and whether they'll refund the money back for the new ones on receipt and trade in agreement on the old ones.

I wouldn't imagine it would take too long, do you still have all the paperwork and especially the report?

This is how it worked for me.

1. Give them the gia report number. At this time I also told them the specs I was looking for in a wf stone.

2. They sent a preliminary estimate in about a day or two.

3. Send them the diamond (s) for examination. Within a day they had me an offer.

4. You must spend double the offer. I.e., if the offer is $1, you have to choose a wf stone that is at least $2. Lol at this example!

When I bought studs, it took about a week. When I bought my ering, I had it set in a temp stock setting so it only took about 3 days.

My experience was very similar to ceg's.

I provided them my AGS certificate number. They gave me an estimate based on the report. I sent in my ring to them by FedEx (they shipped me a box) and they notified me my package arrived and got back to me in a day or two confirming they would give me what they had estimated. I don't know about the requirement to spend double because my ering ACA was over double that amount so that criteria was never discussed. When I ordered my ACA studs from them it took about a week to 10 days to arrive after placing the order. You are in good hands with WF so I hope it works out for you.

Yes, my experience was identical to those above. Just give them a call - they are wonderful to work with and I wouldn't hesitate to reach out to them.

Are you wanting larger studs or just to upgrade the cut of the stones?

Just to upgrade the cut. These were a gift and from a local jeweler, so even though he had asked them to bring in the best cuts it wasn’t PS great. Getting GIA certed diamonds was teeth-pulling too. He initially got the whole “I’m a GIA graduate so I can grade these” line

But, they do have GIA carts so hopefully Whiteflash can provide an offer. I’ll be calling later today

Ok, end of this story is that Whiteflash wouldn’t take my diamonds for trade-in (because they were Ex-Ex-Gd and not Ex-Ex-Ex) but BG is willing to take them and recut them to ideal proportions. So I’ve sent them off to him today and should have them back in a couple of months!

Very exciting @ILikeShiny and I think it is a great decision on your part. Good luck and my fingers are crossed for you.:appl:

Very nice! Good news. :)

Thanks =)2 The sentimentalist in me likes that they’ll still be the same diamonds he gave me (but just a wee bit better ).

I think I’ll have them reset in this mounting. Any experience with it?

I have a pair. I love them. They do nice milgrain. Ask for double milgrain if you like milgrain lol.

That is awesome. I am excited to see them.

I just heard from BGD that one diamond is finished and the other should be done shortly. Both ended up losing around 1/10ct (they’ll end up at .85 and .82 or .83) but will be at least 6mm, so very little visual difference as they were 6.1-6.2mm originally; my guess is that they were both too deep and that’s where most of the weight was cut.

They sent me “before” ASETs and H&A and can I just say :eek2:? Absolutely appalling. I should receive some glamour shots next week and I’m super excited to see the changes! They’re going straight to AGS for grading though so it’s still 3ish weeks before I have them in hand.

Steep deep are the best candidates! I'm so happy for your outcome.

Also normally I wouldn't pay extra for the cert since I don't sell my bling, but for earrings i would bc if you lose one, it'll be easier to find a match having all the numbers to work with.

Thanks! It was a bit nerve wracking (I'll explain when I do a SMTB thread) but it looks like it'll work out in the end.

That's a good thought too! I'm having them cert'd because I know I may one day want to trade them in, and I'd need official grading/specs on them to get a quote. I figured I'd do it now before they're set to make it easier as well as have the official word on their results. They were previously cert'd by GIA so I'm extra curious to see if the colors (D/E) stay the same and if the clarity (SI1/2) changed at all. I'm hoping they lopped off some of the inclusions, even though they were eye clean :lol-2:

What carat size were your diamonds initially? Also cannot wait for the before and after pictures, and also the before and after ASET pictures etc! You must be so excited!

I love “before” & “after”!!! This is so much fun!!
Can’t wait to see!!! :mrgreen2:

Congrats on your "new" earrings!

What a great idea to have them recut, I have a so-so pair and I never thought to look into a recut, my husband thanks you for saving him a nice chunk of change for a new pair:lol-2:

They were .913ct and .958ct, but almost the same mm diameter (6.1 and 6.25). And yes, I'm so excited!

Thanks! After being educated on PS it was hard to live with the so-so earrings. I know DH did the best he could given what was offered and I was beyond grateful to receive them after having wanted diamond studs for a long time; but, when I realized they could be better while still being the same diamonds, I was in! My biggest concern in the recut was that they not look smaller (or barely smaller) than the originals and thankfully that seems to be the outcome.

Oh, and tell your DH I said you're welcome

Can't wait to see the final results @ILikeShiny! I love the look of BGD's delicate milgrained bezeled halo settings, too!

I'm waffling on what setting to do. I'm obviously a big bezel fan, but there's something about the traditionalness (is that a word? ) of prongs that also appeals to me. Plus, the prongs are half the cost of the bezels. Decisions, decisions....
